So it's been awhile since I played, but since my last games, things have happen. A comic/LFG opened up in my town, which means that they are doing things like M:TG and 40k, but they are also slowly getting together some X-wing groups. Anyways, the last time I played, the Inquisitor's TIE was coming out, so... what's the meta looking like now? What are the combos to watch and what Imperial/First Order ships I might need to get my hands on?
I know the default imperial aces was using Soontir, I think there's been some X7s showing up for it too.
The only notable release for Imperials since the Inquisitor is Imperial Veterans - the TIE/sf has some neat tech but it doesn't compare.
Countess Ryad is silly (K-turn on green at every speed except 1). TIE/x7 and TIE-D titles let the defender do dumb shit. TIE Shuttle lets you do fun things with bombers. And Tomax Bren has a pilot skill that would be utterly insane on almost any other ship (and is still solid on bombers, but really...)
Doesn't sound like much has changed for Imps, meta wise if Papmobiles are still a thing. I'll have to look up making a list for a game Friday after next.

They are, but you see less Soontirs and more Defenders.

Defenders are simply amazing to fly. One of the most fun ships in the game IMO.

Ryad is the best. Green K turns are great,
I am contemplating making a Palp aces list that is just Ryad and another defender, probably Vessery. Mostly so I can fly my Brobossk (IG-88 + Bossk with IG-88D crew) against it and see if I can't beat it.
I flew against an Imperial Ace list of Darth Vader, Fel, and Turr Phenir.
Basically I made some dumb mistakes like forgetting Wired works defensively which would have kept Jonus alive. So I lost. However Rhymer killed Darth Vader using nothing but Snap Shot so that EPT is super good on him. I want to fly this list again because I feel I learned a lot. He only had about two hull on each interceptor at the end so if I had actually managed to get any ordinance fired, I think the game would have gone differently.
Salvage crane is going to see play for sure - reload missiles/torps/bombs on kill, 50% to break after. There are scum ships I do not want to fight that on... like the one lone wolf z95. Cluster missile death, reload and dive onto another target to do it again, etc.

Also it specifically mentions getting it before the movie so that would only be about two weeks.

It was supposedly one of the lists that came out of their playtesting sessions. Didn't seem like a good choice.
Amusingly, Netrunner's perennial tournament winner was also dethroned this year. Didn't even make the cut.

Vessery is also a monster with Tractor Beam.
Vessery is a monster with TIE-D in general.

Pilots
Colonel Vessery [Ion Cannon, Adaptability, TIE/D] (38)
“Whisper” [Tactician, Fire-Control System, Veteran Instincts, Advanced Cloaking Device] (41)
Sienar Test Pilot [Concussion Missiles, TIE/v1, Guidance Chips] (21)
Also picked up a third TIE Bomber to run a triple bomber list I've been thinking about a lot.

I'd suggest just one Defender expansion, then get the second from the Imp Veterans expansion. Unless you want to 3+ defenders.
Yeah, you don't want to fly defenders without those titles.

Super hard. Here's what I have.
Rey (61)
-Finn
-Gunner
-Veteran's Instincts
-Falcon Title (S-Loop)
- Engine Upgrade.
Resistance Sympathizer (39)
-Zeb
Not a lot of room for the second YT-1300. Basically I'd use it as a decoy and ram people with it to give Rey positioning to get people in arc.
Alternate List using a YT-2400
Rey (61)
-Finn
-Gunner
-Veteran's Instincts
-Falcon Title (S-Loop)
- Engine Upgrade.
Wild Space Fringer (39)
-Manger Cannon
-Hera
-Smuggling Compartment
-Feedback Array
-Anti-Pursuit Laser
Same general deal, I ram the YT-2400 down people's throats but this time it does more damage while Rey lines up her shots.
I really like Rey+Finn (crew)+Kanan (crew)...
Edit: I'd probably do something like:
Rey (45)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Finn (5)
Kanan Jarrus (3)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Millennium Falcon (TFA) (1)
Resistance Sympathizer (38)
"Zeb" Orrelios (1)
Burnout SLAM (1)
Smuggling Compartment (0)
Total: 99
Also I flew a triple TIE Bomber list today. It was composed of:
Major Rhymer
-TIE Shuttle
-Snap Shot
-Twin Ion Engine MK II
-System Officer
-Tactical Officer
Captain Jonus
-TIE Shuttle
-Wired
-Hull Upgrade
-Fleet Officer
-Darth Vader
Tomax Bren
-Crack Shot
-Extra Munitions
-Plasma Torpedos
-Cluster Missiles
-Guidance Chips

That wasn't the issue, just poor flying on my part not getting anyone in arc + collisions kept him from firing before he died.
Three reverse maneuvers on the dial, all red.

It's actually less than a 50% chance to break the crane!
Still a couple unspoiled things in there: the 5 ps pilot and a crew member that starts with "B"
Edit: Interesting, the crane works on Stealth Device and Countermeasures, too.

You can only use the 1-straight when you give a ship a tractor beam token.
Huh. I need to reread the rules on that then. I could swear it was just "boost or barrel roll them".

Unknown on the TIE Striker till we get its article. U-Wing looks cheap enough point wise that there might be some fun dumb things to do with two.
