The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
There seemed to be some cross over between the 3ds thread and the final fantasy thread so i thought i'd start a thread because thread. I'll update this later with info but for now.
Released:
26th Jan 2016 (USA)
29th Jan 2016 (UK/EU)
I like the custom skill stuff. My chakra now has regen and crit up, my counter has stop and physical defense down and my phase shift has status heal. It's pretty nifty little system. Haven't really worked on offensive skills yet, though.
Already feeling like there is too much walking though.
I find it unreasonably irritating that I can't rename monster pets.
let's be honest. The only ones anyone wants are the chocobos anyway. I had fun playing it last night. It is certainly easier than Monster Hunter, but I kind of like that it is less stressful than MH. The combat is pretty basic and as I said in one of the other threads, it plays a lot like a beefed up Fantasy Life. Haven't messed too much with the crafting and upgrading yet, but it seems like there's a bit of customization there. I've also really only messed with the freelancer, but having 4 sword attacks on L, and cure/regen/deflect on R, I am pretty much a beast. The missions don't take too long with how far I am, and one thing I really like is how after I finish the mission there is an option to skip the 60s wait before it auto-finishes. I can't comment about online yet as I haven't tried it. I read that the missions available are limited by the least progressed person in the group, so don't want to be the guy that is holding everyone back.
Now I have to finish a paper before I can play some more...

Chocobos are pretty dang awesome, they have a nice group heal you can activate at will and choco meteor is great. But they do take up an extra slot so I can see people choosing not to bring them because they would rather have two monsters.
Already feeling like there is too much walking though.
You can take the airship to any area you've previously explored, which helps.
Yeah, but like, I'm up to the 3* stuff already and there are a lot of areas where you can't.
Or where there is something on x then y areas with a place or two between them. (A 2* example would be the mandragora and ghost hunt. One is by that lake, then you go through the forest then the ghosts are over on the other side.
Not awful but it doesn't really improve either.
Armor: not really much at all that I've seen, but I'm not fighting anything particularly iconic yet. I'm not sure if eidolons have their own armor stuff.
how much is the armour you can make themed around the thing you make it from
I'm not very far in the game but probably not very much. You farm Shiva to get Sephiroth's armor set. It isn't a big deal for me as I kind of hated some of MH's designs for certain monsters' armor even though the stats were good.
So I was super into the whole job system in Fantasy Life, switching between them, levelling up, the interconnectedness of it and late-game grinding to max out jobs, items, all that great stuff.
How's the job system in this? How deep does this rabbit hole go?
It's more like the classic Final Fantasy system, which is similar. You can slot abilities between classes (with some restrictions). Have you played Bravely Default or any of the other Final Fantasies with job switching?
There's also a mutations system for skills, but that's really too complicated for me to get into while phone posting. Bottom line is that you can add lots of little bonuses to skills, like physical defense up on you cure spell, for example. @chocobolicious mentions it a few posts up.
Actually, Bravely Default as an ARPG would be a pretty good way to describe the combat. I think while there are a ton of different things that can be added to abilities, the overall effect doesn't seem too crazy. I think it is more of a really wide rabbit hole than a deep one if that makes sense.
So is this game fun? Because reviewers all say it's very grindy and repetitive. I'm not catching a "fun vibe" from professional review sites.
But I've found that most of the professional review sites seem to follow a herd mentality on the reviews of games. It's almost as if they hold a conference, decide a score as a group, as well as some beefs with the game, and then everyone's reviews are all exactly the same.
I think it's a very fun game, if it's what you're looking for.
It isn't some deeply complex game meant to eat hundreds of hours or anything. It's a fun little romp with a nod to some customization options that you play with friends. Or maybe just faff around online.
amazon updated so i should have it in two days..>TWO DAYS I....i can wait. it's going to be ok...maybe i'll just watch streams of people playing or something.
also after being upset that there was no notification from amazon and sending them an email explaining that i get things happen but they need to notify me, they replied with a nice like account credit. Hurray?
it's like a 4. it's really only monster hunter in that it mission focused with a quest hub, and you go kill monsters. The difficulty curve is completely different, and of course there are spells/abilities rather than just the weapon combos. It's kind of a "Hey this is fun because it is charming" rather than this is an extremely deep system that will test my abilities. Real big fan of the no cpp needed. I have another clip on grip thing for my 3ds that is much more comfortable than the cpp.
Between lockon and the L button I just disabled the circle pad support because it wasn't very useful.
It really isn't needed. I use it very very rarely to switch targets during lock-on and that's about it. I guess the second shoulder buttons let you run but it seems uncomfortable to hold for very long compared to b.

Fun customs:
Poison with Burn does nice damage when you have no magic power.
Steal with Death 3 (so far). I just want this at Death 16 for farming shit.
Does magicite have charges that can expire? The description on each magicite says "Can be equipped even if it is used up," but I have no idea what that means.
Edit: Nevermind, found my answer. Apparently magicite is also used as a crafting ingredient, but using magicite this way doesn't prevent you from using it in Trance once you've acquired it.

Oops.
Still handily cleared the quest, and the next one to unlock thief and time mage, so I'll be stabbing on the way home.

Is this FF:Pokemon?
Because I might really need this game.

There have been comparisons earlier in the thread to PSO lite-action combat/Bravely Default job system. Those are pretty spot on.

On a scale of 1 to wyverns just how much Monster Hunter is this game? Heard it's a bit simpler but still has some of the same trappings.

It's not like Sega's going to be ever release another PSO here anyway.

You can just counter everything then counter with a guaranteed crit with tons of damage+/defense- and such.
I didn't even plan to play monk and I'm still enjoying it.
Just got the second set of skills (aura cannon and such.) but I've not messed around with them yet.
Also my pet chocobo.
