I like Shin Godzilla's design, but don't think it's like a good fit for a recurring hero kaiju. I don't see it ever defending Earth from aliens, yknow?

On Shin Godzilla's design
As much as I love it, they have built in story reasons for why you could do a different look from film to film.
Though if I had to guess the direction of sequels and other monster origins- Those things jumping out of his tail could easily become his stable of monsters. Especially with the references to Godzilla potentially growing wings and what not.
I'd also guess that the get around from him turning into something holy recognizable from Godzilla would be that the freezing damaged the more severe of his evolutionary abilities.
Saw Shin Godzilla. I had heard there were political elements, but I wasn't expecting to see a Godzilla movie where the geopolitical and economic impacts of a giant monster attack took greater precedence than Godzilla itself.
Definitely one of my favorite Godzilla movies, and one I could see even non-Godzilla fans liking.
I've heard Gamera came close to getting a cameo in Destroy All Monsters when the Baragon suit got fucked up, but they ended up going with Gorosaurus instead.
What studio produces the Gamera films? It's not Toho, is it?

Saw Shin Godzilla. The box office lady said that the three showings they had had a much bigger and more positive reaction than they'd expected and they were gonna ask to do another showing the following Saturday, so that's cool.
It reminds me of the 1954 movie, but much more engaging... for the most part. The transition from act 2 to 3 kind of bogs down and makes it feel slow. The Engrish coming from a supposedly American character kind of ruins her appeal, which is too bad as her role is fun and she is very attractive.
Overall, recommended for long time Godzilla fans and people who like unique takes on formulaic genres. Not recommended for people wanting an action monster movie. Nothing better in that category than Pacific Rim still.

Gamera - Superior ranged attacks, high speed flight, Baraka style arm spikes, able to charge a spirit bomb into a kamehameha
Unless Gamera super charged with mana and just drowned Godzilla with Plasma death....Godzilla wins.
Still...would be a fun fight to watch. Especially if they use the special effects the more modern Gamera films used. Gamera's fireballs are a freaking delight.

Gamera is friend to children everywhere. If you have a villain Godzilla and children are in danger, that's a pretty big edge to our turtle friend.

only if he can kill them with his laser.If they can live through it/avoid it he's dead meat.
Really though I think Shin isn't suited well for any kind of monster vs monster fight. It really works best as a walking natural disaster.

Ah, I thought I'd seen one of those size things with Shin as way bigger as opposed to just big enough to be the tallest.
Probably a much worse match up then, those little arms aren't gonna do much in a fight.
It may have been Shin compared to the original Godzilla, which is about what you're describing and i believe the focus of an article that was posted around here

So if Godzilla wakes up Tokyo gets nuked within the hour. And America says that if it were in New York the same standard would apply.
So. Have a monster show up in New York (or really any other American situation as Godzilla wakes up. Have a sort of a political crisis arise from that exact situation.
That way you have your double monsters but still hold to the political element of Shin Godzilla
