Pretty cheap and nice quality. If you want to get the barebones, you can get a T-Flight, but the sensor isn't nearly as good and I wouldn't recommend them.

Great! Right at the price point I was hoping for too.

For somewhat easy wake scanning I suggest going to a station that is home to a Community Goal in Open and scan, scan away.
Players typically have modded engines FSDs so your chances of getting higher tier wake scans increases quite a bit, plus the sheer abundance of wakes makes the whole endeavor considerably faster.

I did not know that the chance of higher tier scans increases if they're modded. Does it change with ships too? I've been scanning sidewinders.
I don't think the ship types matter.
I'm also not sure if the different grades of FSD upgrades makes a difference either. It could very well be the case. I just know that if they're modded chances are better.

Powerplay module report on the pacifier frags: kinda hate them. I'm really not sure what role frags are supposed to play, but they are my very least favorite weapons in this game. They have a punishingly annoying reload time, jitter, are only effective at whites of the other cmdr's eyes range, and even then don't do show stopping damage. Just... Bleh.
Oh, also they have a low ammo capacity, because otherwise these babies would just be too overpwered /s.

From what I understand the only two Powerplay weapons really worth a damn are the Advanced Plasma Accelerators (Denton Patreus) and Enforcer (multi) Cannon. The rest range from fairly useless (Pacifier Frag-Cannon) to pretty neat (Pack-Hound Missile Rack aka: GUNDAM MISSLES!!!).

Haven't spent much time in power play. The pack hound missles look a lot of fun, how are the pulse lasers or the prismatic shields? Are they worth the grind?

It's not really a grind. It's time gated (4 weeks pledged). It takes about 25 ship kills to get the merits needed for modules. Considering lots of those are just going to be trading vessels, it's really not much of a concern. If you're interested in trying the modules, there's no reason not to pledge for a while, get the module after 4 weeks, and then jump to the next power.
That said, yeah, Hudson has a crap module. I've heard bad things about Winter's as well. Nobody can complain in comparison to Delaine's though. Those lasers that can't do Hull damage are pretty rough.
Cool, thanks for the info, it's on my list of things to do at some point. Nothing could be worse then investing time and effort for rewards that aren't really that great.
Been playing around with engineers at the moment trying to roll some nicer weapon output. Any opinions on the best added effect? Heat /systems haywire effect sounds something better for pvp than pve which is my go to.
The prismatic shields are a nice option to have for trading ships. They take longer to charge, but for a trader that's ok. You can charge your shields at the station.

It sucks because the APAs are actually worse than they used to be and don't even stack up well against normal PAs. And of course you're limited to that large size. Enforcer's are great but again you're limited to that small size. I hear nothing but love for the packhounds though.
Elite seems like a whole different game now. I hadn't played in a really long time. I felt like I needed to start over so I pretty much sold all my ships and am relearning everything while flying a cheap Eagle. I missing having a HOTAS, but I'm adjusting to the 360 controls, which are weird.
Having weapon and engine colors on your fighters makes it a lot easier to see what they're up to in combat too. Seeing a big purple beam or whatever lets you know "oh, that's my guy".
I wish that individual weapons/thrusters could be customised. That would be kicking rad.
I snagged all the engine colors. I was going to just get the red (to go with the Reaver Cobra), but the pink looked really nice. I didn't have a paintjob for it, though. So... I ended up getting the synth paints for the Vulture (They were on sale!). And then I already had green guns, so might as well get the engine color to match... and since I got all that.... might as well get the last color too. And the weapon colors I was missing.
I want to say, in my defense, that I was expecting to spend a lot more on the Steam sale than I actually did.
Also the Brawler Nameplates were just singing to my soul. Skull and wings? It's not even fair.
So I came back from my deep space exploration with just under 50mil to my name. By far the most I've ever had. My aspex is worth about 20 mil. Looking to upgrade and can't decide between imperial clipped and on of the Fed boats. My two with both isn't very good so I gotta grind.
What are the pros and cons? I want something fairly multipurpose with a combat lean. Basically I want to spend more time pewing than I have been up to this point but still want to do some long range missions from time to time.
Imperial Clipper is proportionately the most expensive ship in the game to outfit (relative to hull cost and utility). The shields and thrusters are very expensive for relatively mediocre results. The thrusters are 16 million and the largest shields are 50.
It's a good ship, but kind of like a sports car. Very expensive and specialised.

Keep the Asp X for those long range missions, and buy a Federal Dropship or Assault Ship for combat, is my advice. All of the Federal Ships are combat focused, but the Dropship is probably the most multi-purpose of them all.
Yeah I was planning on keeping the aspex and fitting it for extreme range. 25ly isn't enough for really long trips.
Ok I'll work towards a fed ship first.
To be honest I'm not really sure how to raise faction rep though. Do I just do missions on planets who are fed aligned?
Yeah, pretty much. The planet/station doesn't matter so much as the minor faction the mission is from. So long as it is a Federal aligned faction, then it'll give you progress towards your next rank.
See the symbols here with the circle and stars? That's the Federation symbol. Completing a mission with one of those federal aligned factions is what you want to do.
I bought a python last night. I guess I skipped the faction locked planes. Is there a reason to go back to them afterwards now that I have a python? I'm still working on Fed reputation in the meantime and can unlock the dropship soonish.
What ships do people still keep around and what role do they fill for you?

There are still larger ranked ships you probably do not have access to yet.
The two largest ships in the game are locked behind rank. The third largest, the Anaconda, isn't. It's arguably better than the other two and inarguably more well-rounded. The Corvette is slightly better at combat and the Cutter has a considerably larger cargo hold.

From my perspective- Yes, absolutely. The Federal Assault Ship is an amazing fighting ship. It turns on a dime, is fast, and has great firepower. It's my favorite ship in the game. I take it bounty hunting often. The cockpit feels perfect for a seek and destroy vessel. The Gunship lives up to its name. It has the firepower of the big 3 in a medium sized ship. It's slightly more maneuverable than the big 3, and overall it's a blast to fly. It's like driving a tank with battleship guns strapped all over it. Ridiculous and fun.
I've never really used the Dropship so I can't comment on that one. Of course the Corvette is excellent, but that one is a real commitment and what Tube says is true in regards to comparing it to the Anaconda.
I'm a bit of a ship collector. I have most of the ships in the game, and eventually I'll buy them all. They are all worth having for different things. They all bring something to the table or have a certain edge that other ships don't have. FDev did a pretty good with that. I outfitted an Asp Scout the other day for mission running (because I brought my Anaconda to this system and the planetary station was only giving shit missions). I was surprised by how much I like it for mission running. The thing is slow, but it's crazy maneuverable. I might even engineer it some and see how it fights. I'm guessing it will be impossible to hit at close range because its maneuverability means it can literally walk circles around bigger ships. The speed would be a liability to look into.
I'm enjoying the Python so far. Need to make some cash though so I can start kitting it out right. Only really have enough left to cover insurance so I don't want to do anything too risky.
Yesterday I went into a high intensity war zone with my aspex and this HUUUUGE destroyer jumped into the system with this big Christopher Nolan sounding boom noise and just fucked everyone up. It was incredible. I bailed out.
But I tried another High intensity and just got pummled. The Low intensity seems more my speed. Is the way to make money there to do massacre missions?
Also when you guys talk bounty hunting, do you just fly around in supercruise interdicting wanted men, or do you take assassination missions?
When you're not mission running, what do you do to make money? I've made a lot exploring, but the Python really isn't suited. I think I'm going to strip down the Aspex to do long distance running and see how high I can get my jump distance.

I'm on the fence. Maybe if I saw some screenshots... *ahem* *hint hint*
Got all the weapon colours so I'm buying those no question.
Also time to make a vulture display team!!
I wish that individual weapons/thrusters could be customised. That would be kicking rad.
Also is it wrong I want a horn for my bigger ships to say "Get the f**k out of my way!" Or "It's feeding time!"

Another plus is that it only requires a medium landing pad while Clippers require large.

Also, I'm going to use Voice Attack to make a macro to turn the thruster engine detailing on and off repeatedly. Why?
