Meeting over as well as the last author skype call of the year which happened right after the meeting ended.
The district lady is going to have the architects provide possible new layouts of the library so that reno has as little impact to the library operations as possible. It has to use existing furniture though since my school is on the next bond issue. The main issue is needing to pack up large chunks of the library by June but that isn't my problem and overall I feel better about the whole situation. At this time my only concern is if I can still do summer school.
Stress levels dropping rapidly and now I am starving.
Ugh ok. So applied for the job in the next state over that pays $adult. Haven't heard anything in a week now. Theres a job here I applied for in October that might finally get word back to me in June maybe, if I wait. I also have a meeting with the head of the fraud department for a job there, its midnights, but it pays 8k more a year and I get 3 days off a week.
Also waiting to get the last of the my paperwork in to apply for Grad School. Fingers crossed. I figured if I throw enough shit at the wall something will stick.

I'm still stewing about how stupid my company is. But another field tech job opened up, I'll be applying for it with my updated resume, maybe something will come of that.

Our CEO came to visit briefly today. He was apparently very sympathetic to our ridiculous vehicle situation and said lots of good things about improving it. Which is lovely to hear, but frankly I don't believe a word of it until I see a new game viewer parked on our driveway with the keys in my hand.
I'm not going to go in to detail but this was pretty hilarious:
A government director put out a memo on our intranet saying they'd observed a sharp rise in sexual harassment and they were forming a group to look in to it.
To which an employee replied along the lines of "Nah that research is usually fake. A lot of people make up claims."
And in a rarely seen event the director replied to the comment saying the claims were quite real, their research wasn't fake, and they'd be happy to talk to this particular employee and would be in contact with his supervisor.
Some people still seem to grapple with the idea that everyone else can see their name on government systems.

That is the best reply all story ever.
Edit: Oh man, this is still cracking me up. This has made this work day pretty fantastic.
It wasn't a reply all. A lot of government agencies have comments sections for stuff like that. Usually it's along the lines of asking questions or saying how a decision might affect their workplace. This was the first I'd heard a person decide to directly call their boss's boss's boss's boss a liar.

I also say "merci boocs" which is not only not real French, it's not even real Quebec French.

I know it's generally a bad idea to talk politics in the office, but there's been some interesting discourse from the Republicans in my office today. Two dudes I respect a lot sit across from me, both Republicans. I'll call them Trevor and John. Trevor is talking about how Trump needs to just shut up already and start ignoring the press and that he's only making everything worse for himself. Unable to resist, I point out that Trump is not really capable of that, it's impossible for him to do. John is agreeing. Trevor, who I feel I should add is generally a steady, well-rounded, educated sort of man, says that it doesn't matter how old you are, everyone is capable of change. So I sketch out my idea of what Trump is: that Trevor had a life where people sometimes said 'no' to him, and he had to learn how to deal with that and that sometimes you don't get what you want. Trump never had that life, his always been able to bully or intimidate or pay his way into getting what he wants. That an upbringing like that basically creates a person totally unprepared for the real world, but suddenly Trump has been dropped into the real world and has no idea how to respond to it, that maybe eventually someone like that could learn how to deal, but he's not going to learn immediately. John is agreeing and nodding his head through all this. He even gives the example of a kid who is told by his parents what a perfect boy he is, who then gets out on his own and realizes that means nothing.
Our resident Trumpkin was apparently listening and decided to stand up to disagree with my Trump sketch, but I really don't care what that guy thinks about politics since he's been knee-deep in conspiracy theories for a while, so I just said, "I know you don't agree with me, dude, I don't need to hear it." then I sat down and put in my headphones.
The conversation was interesting to me because: I believe John voted for Trump. I know that Trevor specifically didn't vote because he didn't like either candidate (but he also believed that Clinton would win). Around about election time it felt like the world had gone mad, including these two - that they simply couldn't see Trump for who he is. It's a huge relief to have them seeing what the man is and decrying what he's doing.

My wife has been super overwhelmed at work lately, like having to leave early with stress headaches caused by grown adults acting like children and making ridiculous requests and such taking up all of her work time so she can't get through the actual work she has to do
you know pretty standard HR stuff
(She works in central HR for a big prestigious University and her role is both executive assistant to the University's Vice President and Office Manager for the entire 100+ person HR department, plus she has high level managerial roles like designing and approving budgets for the whole office etc. As an example, one team of 5 or 6 people within employee insurance or whatever were due new laptops. They're all essentially glorified data entry and employee support people who use email, word and excel and that's about it. One of them I guess asked their teenage son what kind of laptops they should get and he said the brand new Surface Pro. So they got that in their head that nothing else would be suitable and put their foot down and wouldn't budge that this $1,500 Tablet Laptop was 100% required. They could literally do their job comfortably with a $200 chromebook.)
anyway she was having a conversation with her boss today, who just casually dropped into the chat "We should probably get you an assistant or something, huh?"

In defense of the Surface Pro, if you actually use that functionality it can be a godsend. We actively are using the touch screen signature, film, photo, and flip capibilities in our unit and I can't imagine not having them for our events.
But if you aren't literally using all of that? No way. Go a cheap dell laptop.

Man I'm not even kidding, after they arrived, one of them came to my wife's desk and had to be hand-held through fucking logging onto her email and opening a browser.
Got about a week and a half left, if not just a week, of substituting before the semester ends.
Hopefully I hear something soon because otherwise...
It's been adjudicated though, correct? If do you could likely find some temp work escorting uncleared construction people or other odd jobs.
No idea. They won't tell us if it's done basically until we get the final offer. When I called the security team today they said exactly that, they're not allowed to give updates on BIs/Adjudications.

Well, tomorrow's my last day at Honest Jedoc's Down-Home Bookateria. Monday, I start as manager at Semi-Mega Library Two, which is about twice the size of my current joint. Nothing like the scale of Mega Library One, which is about half again as large staff-wise, and much busier. Same pay bump, though, and I'm kind of relieved to be going to a slightly smaller library.
Hilariously, it's not one of the two big libraries I applied and interviewed for, and it's actually the only library in the system I've never worked in, since it was undergoing renovations during The Wandering Age. But it does have a book-sorting robot in the back! As one of my first duties, I shall put big googly eyes on it, as I do with all of my robots, to ease our terror during the inevitable uprising.

I was trying to get my parent's computer to do computey stuff on the weekend, when I discovered that it has always been ridiculously slow. So I checked the specs and surprise surprise, it's about 8-9 years out of date (they bought it about 5 years ago, but even then a dual core Pentium and 4 gigs of RAM was a fucking waste of time). My Mum was asking me if she should buy a new one and although I advised her to just get an SSD and do a fresh install on that and use their platter drive for media storage only (their usage is email, word processing, printing, facebook), I was tempted to ask her instead to just buy my pc off me and I'd build myself a new system with the money.

Potential good news:
1) I may be able to easily get into a special project instead of doing tech support, because apparently no one in tech support wants to do it even though it means not taking calls (outbound only), because you have to work weekends. I love working weekends and getting weekdays off. You also get time and a half if you work Sundays, so I would love a Sunday schedule.
2) Company trainer who I've been keeping in contact with about the field tech jobs says he'll ask HR about my applications tomorrow. Nice to have someone higher up willing to do something like that, he's good people.

Sleep and home work patterns distributed for people viewing house that ultimately cancelled during the time frame I would have been asleep from working graveyard.
Combined with the fact that I need to keep the kitchen empty for them, I am cranky....and hungry.

We all know the next part of this story, right?
In two weeks time they will collectively decry the new laptops, because when they point with a finger to something on the screen "The mouse pointer jumps 'randomly' all over the screen".
That is if I'm reading you right and they actually got the surface pros.
It seems like basic computer use has joined basic math as a thing people proudly declare they don't understand/know how to use.

There absolutely should be classes that teach children how to use computers, in elementary or early high school. But everything I heard in education circles was that kids just know how to use technology these days, which is why we don't need to teach them any of it, so we can get rid of computer classes, as well as lessons on (graphing) calculators, Internet research, etc..
So after yesterday's kerfuffle there is a growing realization that enough has been done egregiously wrong that like four management positions might be open real soon here.
And I haven't been brown nosing so I know I will get none of them.

although to be fair, if those managers have been allowed to be that bad for that long, would you really want the job of cleaning up after them?

Ahahaha... research should stay. Calculator use can be covered in math classes by teachers answering questions and maybe giving a basic how-to day since you don't need 90% of what they can do in high school. And in college you get Mathematica anyways.
But research? Keep it.
