Oh my god, the old She-ra is just amazingly atrocious

What's amusing is that these critics forget how liberal some 80's cartoons occasionally were.

Season 3 of The Last Kingdom finally dropped on Netflix.

It's been so long I've forgotten what season 1 and 2 were about.

I'm certain this is true, except in the case of GI Joe.

I am confident that GI Joe was a work of art, and that if I were to watch it again today, I would not at all find it to be an atrociously animated 22 minute toy commercial, even by the standards of 22 minute toy commercials.

Excuse me, The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh is a national treasure.

But then there are also other programs such as the Paw Paw Bears, where to merely call them... "problematic", would be letting them off easy.

My sister and I were just talking yesterday about how hilariously boobalicious everyone is in the 80s version. Like Shadow Weaver wears an Oogie-Boogie hood and has no face but definitely has a wasp waist and giant boobs. Just...okay then.

Edit: the He-Man life lessons are pretty great. Actually, the "here's the moral" bits even existing is kind of amusing. That's probably where Jerry Springer got the idea. haha

    Ninja Turtles
    Ghostbusters
    Thundercats
    Pound Puppies
    Super Mario Brothers Super Show
    Duck Tales
COPS (and their jawsome cap gun action figures)
    Rescue Rangers
Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs

All still hold up outside of some (at times very) weak animation because it was the style at the time. And He-Man still ruled even if the animation was early flash era animation weak. The New Adventures of He-Man was where it was at even though that was 1990.

Last time I watched GI Joe it seemed to hold up okay. I tried He-Man and couldn't get through more than a couple of episodes

I've been afraid to revisit Transformers (outside the movie. The only Transformers movie that was ever made).

Seems if you are new or returning subscriber to Hulu you can get it for $0.99/month for a year.

I might actually take the plunge for $12.

I saw that, that's the kind of stuff that makes me wonder what their internal stats look like.

Even with it being the commercials package that deal is good but I just can't renew until they fix the UI, it's not even worth the buck a month hassle.

The new she-ra is pretty entertaining and good kids television.

It is aimed at younger kids, and the world is thus "somewhat" illogical, but the whole show is delightfully empowering so far.

Just watched the latest season of the Last Kingdom. While I found the first seasons pretty cheesy, this latest one is the best one yet! I wonder if the fact that this is the first one wholly produced by Netflix has anything to do with the quality level? In any case, if you've been curious about this series, this is the season to pick it up. You don't even really have to watch the previous seasons all that much, as the show does a good job of recapping previous events for the uninitiated. Recommended!

I agree this was the best season in some regards. Utrid this time has no dramatic mood swings and changing character motivations; which is a huge relief.

It's based on a book, and the three seasons have continuously had mysterious sorceress, seer, lady characters that serve, if anything, as Utred's love interest that I wish they would drop entirely.

The other day I was thinking, I'd like to stream the Criterion Collection since buying the DVDs can get pretty expensive. I also remembered it was mentioned here that they moved from Hulu to FilmStruck. So looking at the Criterion page it turns out FilmStruck ends on Nov 29. Guh?

Anyhow, they are setting up their own streaming service in spring of 2019.

You can sign up to be reminded they are having a new service.
We’ll be starting from scratch, and we can use all the help we can get. Sign up now to become a Charter Subscriber and you’ll enjoy these benefits:

    A 30-day free trial.

A reduced subscription fee for as long as you keep your subscription active. The regular fee will be $10.99 a month or $100 a year, but as a Charter Subscriber you’ll pay $9.99 a month or $89.99 a year.

Concierge customer service from the Criterion Collection, including a customer ID and a special e-mail address.

A holiday gift-certificate present, for use on the Criterion Collection website.

    A Charter Subscriber membership card.

The satisfaction of knowing you’re keeping the best of film alive and available.

The new service will be wholly owned and controlled by the Criterion Collection. We hope to be available in both the U.S. and Canada at launch, rolling out to additional territories over time.

Maybe it was mentioned in the streaming threads here, but I can't remember. I signed up for a reminder. I figure I can have one more streaming sub when Game of Thrones is done and I cancel HBO. Not sure what a membership card is good for. Maybe to pretend with your spouse you are visiting a local independent video store where you would have rented Criterion disks.

Never watch cartoons from the 80s that you loved as a kid.

    Never.

I'm certain this is true, except in the case of GI Joe.

I am confident that GI Joe was a work of art, and that if I were to watch it again today, I would not at all find it to be an atrociously animated 22 minute toy commercial, even by the standards of 22 minute toy commercials.

I remember watching G.I. What's especially funny about that is they still weren't afraid to get real damn dark on occasion. There was one particular alternate-reality two-part episode(Worlds Without End) where several of the Joes were transported to an alternate reality where Cobra killed all of the Joes, and there's even a moment where they see their own corpses. At the end of the episode, three of them decide to stay behind and are never seen again.

And then there was the two-parter There's No Place Like Springfield, which is just ~40 solid minutes of... wat
