Seriously this shit is so infuriating. it doesn't have to be this way!
I use to vote at home as my home state like a lot of the West has gone that way.
Now I vote in the elementary school next to my house. I will say there is something to the ritual of going into a polling station voting that is a bit more exciting than my "get ballot in mail, fill out ballot while watching youtube, sign ballot, put ballot in mail."
But I think last I checked the 100% mail in ballot systems didn't have huge increases in voter participation that they tend to billed as having. But I think as a general system they are better because they do allow folks who are unable to go physically vote due to work and life circumstance a way to vote.

Not sure if that's a good sign about high levels engagement, or an enraging one about how successful the voter suppression has been (and will continue to be with our current SCOTUS)
Mostly the latter, I think. In my Blue State, I’ve never had to wait more than 5 minutes to vote, and for minor elections (eg primaries) I’ve never waited at all.
As a resident of a blue county in a red state I agree tt is likely the latter. Indiana's largest city also makes up its most populous county of Marion. Marion county has a population of just under 1 million and in 2016 had one single early voting site. Thankfully this past summer the county board of elections approved of 6 satellite locations for early voting but that's no thanks to the state Attorney General. The AG filed a motion for a federal court to block the new stations based on a spurious claim that the board did not have unanimous consent when both the records and video of the meeting the vote took place at showed that they had.
Red state officials will stop at nothing to disenfranchise the residents of its largest cities.
How is this not fraud? It's the destructions of the very principles of democracy, ffs

It is. It's just that america has a long-standing tradition of destroying or ignoring the very principles of democracy in service to white supremacy. It is essentially the defining through-line of american politics from it's inception till today and will be tomorrow.

My whole city/district is vote by mail only, and it is the BEST.
Everywhere should do that.
I have no problem with both vote by mail AND vote in person. Do whatever you prefer.
Although, as a california resident I desperately wish someone would put a ballot measure on the ballot to say....
"The government can raise taxes with a simple majority vote again"
My ballot at every election is always SWIMMING with 'raise taxes for this and raise taxes for that' measures and I always hate them. I elect people with opinions I like to decide whether taxes go up and down and what they should be spent on.

I have no early voting. The only way for me to vote by mail is to apply (by mail or in person), have voted in person at least once before (with a few exceptions allowed) and be:
age 60 years old or older
unable to vote without assistance at the polls
expecting to be out of town on election day
in jail awaiting arraignment or trial
unable to attend the polls due to religious reasons
appointed to work as an election inspector in a precinct outside of your precinct of residence.
And if I do all that, I get to repeat the process next time.
Yea! Democracy!

NV - PPP (Dem pollster) - Rosen (D) +2 - "Voters" (doesn't say registered/likely). 538's adjustment puts it to R+.2

I got to stop following politics for awhile..
Hitting that point while reading about voter suppression in GA where I'm just sick of the stress and the abuses of power. Fucking hell, I'm just ready for this to be over with.
I'm praying November is a turning point. Things are dark enough already, give us something to hold onto to keep going for a little longer in this dumpster fire of a presidential term.
There has now been a local GOP chairman participating in a Proud Boy attack on a Democratic Congressional campaign office that was supporting Democratic Congressional candidate Donna Shalala.
Miami GOP Chairman just caught leading Proud Boys in attack on Democratic campaign office
Yesterday, Miami GOP Chairman Nelson Diaz told me he never even heard of the Proud Boys, but the hate group’s own video proves otherwise.
The Miami-Dade Republican Party’s County Chairman led an angry mob of partisans, alongside the local leader of national hate group the Proud Boys, in an attack on a Democratic campaign office this week.
Miami GOP Chairman Nelson Diaz planned the event (image below) and local Congressman Carlos Curbelo promoted the protest heavily.
A chaotic mob scene ensued as the Republican party leader and his spewed expletives at House Minority leader Nancy Pelosi while she entered a Democratic Congressional campaign office.
“I was on the other side of that door with the Capitol Police, helping to deadbolt the entrance from an angry mob. I’ve never seen anything like this in all of my years in Miami politics, or anywhere else for that matter,” said Ricky Junquera, Outreach Vice Chairman of the Miami-Dade County Democratic party who was literally on the other side of the door that Diaz was pounding.
These people should all be investigated and prosecuted.
Man that's a pretty boldly stupid thing to do. Much like the recent O'keefe fuckery, the GOP is definitely feeling untouchable in committing crimes to prevent people from being elected.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
It probably wasn't a great idea for Cruz to publically admit that his seat is being seriously challenged.
I mean, it was always true, but that seems like the kind of thing that could energize Texas voters even more.
Its a play for his own base too though. Perhaps some GOP voters who normally don't like cruz would leave it blank thinking he's safe, but now would definitely vote him to keep the socialists at bay.

Surveys were apparently Sep 21-25, Oct 1-6, and Oct 13-16.

e: Looks like PPP had R+3 and Lake Research Partners (another dem outfit) had R+4 in the same time period as the third one, so uh yeah. Spitting distance. Not there yet by any means, though.
The only issue I have with only mail in voting is that there are certain people, like the homeless, who don't have a mailing address. There still needs to be a method for them to vote if they want too.
Mail in voting should def still be available throughout the country. It's fantastic if it's available to you.

The flip of this is I think I’ve waited at most, maybe 20 minutes, to vote on Election Day in Indianapolis. Which is weird considering how much they hate early voting.
Experiences vary apparently. It took me at least an hour to vote the Saturday before election day 2016 and I had to pay for street parking a quarter mile away. The line to vote at the clerk of courts snaked around at least twice inside and had probably 30 people in line outside the door.
"fuck you, I'm voting" seems to be happening in Georgia.
About 58 percent of voters cast early ballots during the 2016 presidential election, and 37 percent voted in advance in 2014.
When mailed-in ballots are added to in-person early votes, a total of 129,458 Georgians had already voted through Monday in advance of the Nov. 6 general election, which features the race for governor between Democrat Stacey Abrams and Republican Brian Kemp.
At the same point in the midterm election cycle four years ago, just 46,086 people had voted, according to georgiavotes.com.
On Thursday morning, the state released new numbers that show 296,000 people have voted so far.

Hi (my name) it's Maria with One Arizona, helping voters. How you vote is secret, but whether you vote is public - I want to be able to thank you for voting this year.
It’ll feel really good if I helped get Sinema elected as Arizona’s Senator.

Let's be very careful trying to translate early votes into final totals. Typically, early voters are highly motivated voters who were going to vote on election day anyway. The information you'd want is how many early votes are traditionally unlikely voters.

It might be a state thing or a military thing, not sure. I registered years ago through fvap.gov , which is to help out of state military and their families vote in their home of record. Since I registered as a D, the Arizona Democratic Party and even my county voting secretary has contact me a lot with stuff like election updates or surveys.
