Just doing dailies gets you flying in two weeks ish I believe. If you farm the pet battles and rares and rare Mechagon fish you can get it in 8 days. It's way more reasonable than previous expansions, in either case.

if you did everything starting the first tuesday you could get it today; if you missed the first day or two it'll be a couple more obviously

    it goes pretty fast though

I still need turtles and champions of azeroth for pathfinder 1, so I'm in no rush for 2 yet.

Honestly right now my biggest goal for some reason is unlocking highmountain taurens. I'm about 1500 away from revered so I have a ways to go :(

I plan on making a Highmountain Shaman. Again, I don't know why either. When I first resubbed and bought bfa I used my 110 boost on an orc shaman. He's the one I used to hit exalted with honorbound and zandalari. But because of the level boost I didn't really have much of an attachment to the shaman. So I leveled a Mag'har warrior to 120 and he's my 'main' now for all intents and purposes. But I haven't really enjoyed him at end game. He's super effective in prot spec in the new content, albeit slower at killing things, but I also just don't really know what I want to focus him on. I like tanking but find raids and M+ tanking stressful, so I avoid them. And I find fury dps to be effective but bland in dungeons. I really like ranged dps in group content anyways because I get to see the battle more. There's a lot of visual noise as melee dps.

I went to do the flying stuff for legion and I gave up after 2 days because it looked like I'd have to spend a month to unlock it which felt stupid, I assume they haven't made it easier yet?

Oh man is this true. One thing that makes it slightly better is that you can move while casting the rocket attack.

What really fucked me with that is I ended up getting a vaultbot thing, except it didn't get scrapped when I dragged it to the recycler so I just ended up stuck in combat forever.

I feel like I am missing something doing the current rep. I only just hit honored in Naz and have been ignoring Mechagon until I finished Nazjatar.

Depends how many days you have put into it. I think i hit honored 2 days after it came out. You mostly just need to do the regular quests and daily quests. World quests and rares dont give much rep. Also remember to select one of the follower dudes to run around with you. When they hit certain levels they give you quests to get a reward and some rep, but also some dailies dont show up unless you pick one of the three. If you do pet battles you can get like 3k rep for beating all the legendary pets in each zone.

I came back home to visit family over the 4th and dont have a computer to play wow on. So ill be a bit behind that curve. Not like there is a pressing reason to get it though. It would just make accessing some rares in nazjatar possible as a non DH.

They haven't. It's one of those things that, if you're just doing the content normally as it came out, you'll get it eventually. But if you're trying to grind it from scratch it's brutal. Same with the BFA flying.

Legion flying right now at least is easier in the sense that I'm level 120 and kill things in one hit, but it's still time consuming.

MMOs are really stuck between a rock and a hard place with this kind of stuff. You can make it a reasonable grind so that people like me who can only play a few hours a week have a chance to unlock it, but then the poopsockers finish it off in a day and take to the forums to complain about how there's nothing to do.

on the one hand, yes the theme parky ness of retail is garbage

on the other hand, there is so much content I need to grind through still

The grind doesn't necessarily bother me as much as the time gating of the grind. If there's a rep involved, there's a good chance I can't just grind 10000 timbermaw to hit exalted, but rather I have to log in every day straight for a month to finish it in a month.

I can't remember if flying has a rep lock, I think it does. It looks like BFA's does and I'm pretty sure WoD's did too, so it would stand to reason legion does as well but I can't remember.

For me it's the over-simplification of the classes. Too many abilities and talents have been pruned, every class spec has been reduced, by design, to one good rotation, and if you don't want to do what the class administrators intend for you, too bad, you have no other options.

I remember being so bitter about time-gating when I first encountered it, which I feel was TBC with either nether-rays or the netherwing drakes.

I feel like I'm more torn on it now. Like at this stage of my life, I kind of like knowing that I can log in, do 4-5 WQs and turn in an emissary quest and be done with my rep grinding for the day and free to either do other things in game or play something else (or get off the computer if that was all the game time that I had anyways). The alternative being logging in, and having to grind mobs for 3-4 hours at 10 rep per mob to get the same amount of rep. Sure I can grind past 3-4 hours and get more rep in a day doing that than I can with doing dailies, so the theoretical time to finish your grind is faster, but the /played is much longer.

Of course, the other alternative is to do away with both and just get rid of rep-grinding entirely. But then you have to offer another reason for people to keep logging in week after week.

I was about to go into a rant about end-game design and each expansion throwing the old content away vs. a system like guildwars where you hit max level relatively quickly and then all new content is just added to a massive pool of stuff to do and so time-gating is no longer necessary because there's just so much to do. But no one wants to read that nonsense.

There are problems to both. Guild wars has had some power creep even though most things are sidegrades. The population being so spread out across two expansions and the original content still makes it hard to find groups. And it suffers from the same things as wow. Theres not much to do when you dont care about gear anymore. Pvp in gw is probably more neglected than in wow.

Not being able to manage your time because it's not gated seems more of a personal problem tbh though. Like I get it, I do, but it's also a really dumb mechanic just because you can't keep your hand out of the cookie jar.

I'm not saying you're a bad person though dissociater, I often times cannot keep my hand out of the jar.

Like everything in modern WoW, including the current Azerite grind, Timegating is a compromise. You need to give people reasons to log in each day and stay subbed, but also you can't reward poopsocking since that only leads to burnout and people quitting and is very unhealthy overall. So, you timegate so people can "do something" on the hour or two that they get to play each day.

the real issue is there are other ways they could do it, even story related ones. oh when you first get here you have to set up bases to fly too, so there's no flying. then you have flight paths but the skies aren't really safe. now after X amount of time (or next dot release 8.1, 8.2, etc.) then anyone can fly. so if you come back a year later, you don't have to "grind" anything.

Who cares? I don't. Let them burn out, let them complain.

It ends up being the same problem though. Like either you gate the content or you don't. If it's gated, you can make it a rep grind, or time gate it. Rep-grinding without a time-gate makes it attainable for poopsockers, but for people who only get a few hours here and there every week, you risk making the content completely unattainable. Like if it takes 20 hours of /played grinding to obtain the rewards, the poopsockers get that in a day or two, but if I only get 4 hours a week to play, that means it's going to take me 5 weeks to unlock the content if that's the ONLY thing I ever do each week while playing. That leaves me no time to do anything else in the game that I might find more fun.

I'm not saying time-gating's the answer necessarily. But if you're going to gate content one way or the other, time-gating actually makes that content achievable for people like me compared to just having to pump up /played time that I just don't have anymore.

Ideally rep grinding shouldn't exist at all, and some of the neat rewards you get should be given based on completing actual content like dungeons, quests, storylines, etc. And there's plenty enough quests and story and content in the game, they just throw all of it into the bin at the end of each expansion. My solution would be to level scale all the content from vanilla through to BFA so that the enemies are still more or less at your level no matter what zone you're in. Scale down all pre-bfa raids to be 5-man dungeons so that you can still experience 'older' content once it's become less relevant. Get rid of all rep grinds and tie those items to achievements given through completing actual content like scaled down raids, storylines, zone quests, dungeons etc. But I know that's not for everyone, and might not even be possible or too big of a task for the blizzard team.

Man, the quests in these new zones are just so lazy. "kill x of y". They're purposely drawn out too. Kill 10 things and get 2 quest items if you're lucky, to the point where you can end up clearing out entire areas of your target and still not be finished. Hell, trying to do the dumb 'feed the hydra' I was able to kill on group of 5 chitterspines, get one meat, and then the area was free of crabs because everyone else had already killed them all.

BfA missions and followers are very literally an afterthought that were put in because an Activision exec mandated some kind of mobile tie-in, it's a little jarring after the pretty expansive systems in WoD and Legion.

Decent passive source of Azerite, though.

    In letting highest m+ i did was a 17 or 19 iirc.

Did my first 14 in BfA with some guildies, almost made the wedding timer (only did a regular timer essentially with a ton of time to spare). Was a Waycrest. Was my highest yet. Got a slight ring upgrade.

We got a +15 Shrine and we're like ok let's do it. It really want that bad. We screwed up a couple of pulls with the dot on death, i ate a death from melee dude on pair boss fight, we wiped once on last guy. Finished 47 seconds after the timer.

It really wasn't as hard as i thought it would be. Still have to actually time a 15, and it will only get harder next week but.. seems doable now with a decent group.
