Well, @Moriveth and I watched the live action movie! Honestly I enjoyed it. Mori said the cgi was a lot better than he was expecting. I thought the actors were pretty great (especially Koichi’s actor).

Oh that's rad, I like that

also, I now have the full manga series of both Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency, and the first two of Stardust Crusaders

I... don't know what I'm gonna do when I'm caught up with the current volumes published.

Are we spoiling, fuckin, Battle Tendency in here?
    I'll play it safe
JoJo just defeated Wamuu and they're making it this weirdly emotional thing where he honors his warrior spirit or whatever and I'm like fuck him!

He's a thousand year old super murderer!

    I'm glad he's dead

sometimes I just sit and watch the Battle Tendency OP and just enjoy the ridiculous amount of color that thing's got going on

it may put Persona to shame

Stardust Crusaders is where stands show up, so yeah, kinda.

I will say this for SDC: The first half is pretty uneven. But the second half is REAL good (and also there are a couple episodes I really dislike in there, but it's mostly good)

Stardust Crusaders is my least favorite part by a pretty significant margin but it's pretty essential building blocks for the rest of it

luckily now that I've seen it I can just cherrypick all the parts I like and forget the many, many episodes I can't...stand

I feel like the high points of SDC are the highest the series has been, and the low points are... well, the lowest

Like those D'arby episodes, or the Oingo Boingo episodes? fucking fantastic

    Alessi? Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

    Alessi? Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

It gets a lot of mileage out of the fact that a lot of it's best episodes are the final ones, so the part ends really strong.

Also DIO is a great final boss with oodles of buildup

i honestly don't think there's any good reason to watch the alessi episodes, even on a first time through

they can only lower your enjoyment and opinion of everything

The Alessi episodes are basically filler starring Polnariff anyway.

Well, in a show as monster-of-the-week as Stardust Crusaders, a lot of the fights could be filler.

The most filler fight is Wheel of Fortune, I think.

in Stardust Crusaders: Battle in Egypt, there are two episodes called Set's Alessi, Parts 1 and 2

    skip 'em

I think my favorite bonkers detail about the end of Battle Tendency is that
Stroheim canonically dies a proud Nazi at the Battle of Stalingrad

it's absolutely Stalingrad. The dub and sub both specify and you can clearly hear Stalingrad in the Japanese narration

Regardless I think it's just a hilarious fate and such a jarring reminder that oh yeah, he was a Nazi and World War II was in fact still a thing in this world
