Chapter 99 of Jojolion may be the weirdest one in the whole series. I'm serious...
BEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS (or wasps)
Also I have no idea whether or not (SPOILERS)
The shot of the Stone Mask and Enya with the Arrows is mean to imply that those exist also exist in this universe, or if the "narrator" is just using those as examples of other objects of power.
Okay, Stardust Crusaders, we're in Egypt now, Polnareff still sucks but man Iggy might be worse
iggy the best
better than the rest

Iggy gets better
Polnariff
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
This is weird to admit but even this deep into JoJo I'm still not sure if I... actually like it that much
You’re experiencing what I would call the Jojo Progression, cause this is the exact arc I went on
Phantom Blood: oh haha, weird and interesting
Battle Tendency: I love Joseph and will watch this endlessly just to see what he does
Stardust Crusaders: hmm, starting to question if I actually like Jojo
Diamond is Unbreakable: Jojo absolutely rules and I will die for Araki
Despite being the most famous part I think Stardust Crusaders is the nadir of the series, I would call it a slog where the payoff is getting to watch Diamond is Unbreakable, a significantly more enjoyable version of the series with lovable characters and way more interesting ideas going on
Polnareff and Iggy both suck ass until they suddenly don't right near the end of the series and it is infuriating to me that I have positive feelings for the toilet licking pervert and the shitty farting comedy dog
Ya Stardust Crusaders def drags on way way way too long and is very uneven quality wise, but the final fight is so damn cool it had me forgive a lot of its problems

Hm, I’ve got an issue with that specific assessment of Polnareff.
Yeah, he licks a toilet off-camera, but he doesn’t want to. He’s physically possessed by an enemy stand, that makes him do so as a form of punishment. If anything, that says more about Enyaba. Of course, if you’re saying that he sucks because he got into a situation that bad in the first place, that’s another point entirely.
And I don’t think pervert entirely fits either. He had that scene where he was chatting up those tourists to sort of establish him as a ladies’ man, but then they had him talk to the controller of Empress, and that was about it for that trait. They don’t even do that trope where the ladies’ man in the group has to fight a woman but can’t because he’s too horny/respectful. I guess there’s an argument to be made about the Alessi fight, but that whole thing kinda sucks.
I think what I haven't been liking for a while is it relies on new weird stands every week and we spend 40 minutes figuring out the trick to beat this weird gross monster
This time, the stand adds some stakes but you're still just going up against Darby and trying to rig a bet with him, that's a human conflict and way more interesting
Also I love seeing Joseph's old bullshit sleight of hand tricks come back, do more of that
Those immediately preceded Darby actually
I watched Mariah, it was.... whatever, but I skipped Alessi at this thread's recommendation and I feel pretty good about that

this is also why I think Diamond is Unbreakable is the standout part of the series, because almost all of Jojo is always a road trip, but Diamond is Unbreakable is all set in the same town so these characters all recur and develop and create a whole web in a way that you just don't in the other parts
like it's pretty much just Hol Horse and Oingo & Boingo appearing more than once in all of Stardust Crusaders, everyone else is immediately crushed
Here's just some of what you're missing out on by skipping alessi!
Alessi turns polnareff into a very small child
A pretty and kind woman finds him and takes him home to clean him up and feed him. Polnareff is extremely excited when she washes his dick but being a kid is messing with his brain so he doesn't remember why that that excites him
Then Alessi shows up and tries to drown him on the tub. Polnareff escapes by taking a big shit, grossing Alessi out enough that he relents and let's polnareff get away
I could really do without all these lovingly rendered depictions of violently murdered dogs and I'm starting to wonder if this is another thing for Araki
Allegedly, he's said that it's a really quick way to establish a villain as an absolute scumbag, because dogs are good.
And I guess it's effective, because I seem to remember those moments as feeling more awful than similarly-detailed violence done to the human characters.

Polnariff gets better, it just takes a ... while.

man young Joseph was way better than these guys
You still have the Alessi and Mariah episodes to get through, but honestly you can probably skip those with no consequence

Anyway, I do think the Alessi episode has a good ending, it’s just everything leading up to it is... eh.
