Is there a way to get a bunch of common and uncommon wildcards besides taking the same cards in a draft to get excess dupes? I'm trying to build some beginner decks I found and I need a bunch of them.
the main way to get more wildcards, and in fact the only reliable way, is to buy packs, as every pack moves you towards getting another uncommon, rare or mythic rare wildcard.
Crap, read that common/uncommon don't get wild cards if you have 4 already. Guess I should buy packs instead of Bo1 drafting?
I'm not sure where you're reading this. I have 10+ common wildcards without really trying. At one point I had more uncommon wildcards than common.
Not bad. Definitely had some rough games (started 0-2, won 4 straight, then fell to a super aggro build) but there's a reason I don't have Dream Trawler in my own cube. Two of my wins were solely on the back of that thing.

If you get common/uncommon cards you already have a play set (4) of, you get a small percentage of progress towards opening a vault.

Dream trawler is very much a "hope you have a counterspell ready you fucker" type card.
And there aren't a ton of great boardwipes that deal with it.

Yeah I only saw Planar Cleansing once. Cast Kiora Bests the next turn but the WAR Ashiok that I had sent to the Prison Realm wiped me out.

After a point you should have effectively infinite common/uncommon wildcards. I don't know what the play experience is like super early without paying in (I'm a whale for Magic :P) but just the packs from a single prerelease bundle is probably enough to give you a good % of the commons/uncommons from that set you need and enough wildcards to build multiple decks. The only issue is, I guess, running out of wildcards if you attempt to build several decks using common/uncommon substitutes for rares, but even then you'll eventually just have the rares and slow down on your wildcard substitution.

Lutri, the Spellchaser has been banned in Commander.
First time ever that a card has been banned when it was spoiled.
i mean, in this case it makes sense since it's literally a must-play in any deck that can run it.
I must be missing something then. The card seems okay at best. You flash it in, copy one spell and that's it. Even with bounce or flicker shenanigans there are likely much stronger or game breaking options. Sure you could include in any deck that runs UR but I don't think everybody will.
Edit: I didn't realize side boards were a think in commander. Now I understand what the article meant by 101st card.

Sideboards are emphatically not a thing in regular Commander.
The problem with the Lurti in Brawl/Commander is that it has absolutely no companion restriction. If you meet the color identity requirements (red/blue/x), you get to run it for free automatically. What's the point in that? Even if you only have one instant or sorcery in your deck, why wouldn't you put a 61st/101st card in your deck that you never have to actually draw?
I drafted a UW deck that I thought would fall on its face but it got 3 or 4 wins.
I went back and drafted a GB deck that I thought would fare ok (honestly it was a bad drafts with no good rares or Uncommons to lead the way), and that went 0-3. I probably should have tweaked it after the first match.
Will attempt more tonight.
I'd like to try to make Boros or Rakdos work at some point. At least in Arena, I didn't realize how stupid good White is for draft. It's arguably deeper than Black, depending what you're trying.
I may just take a flyer on the Mastery pass so I can understand what it's all about.

"Duplicate Protection is an additional reward system that is triggered by progress. When players would acquire a fifth copy of a particular rare or mythic rare card, the system will replace it with a rare or mythic rare card you have less than four copies of in your collection or gems depending on the circumstance:"
I read this as the dupe protection not applying to common/uncommon?

Yeah, I figured the vault would play a part in excess commons.
Anyone else have recommended beginner decks for me to try out/see if I have the right cards? I've been trying to make these decks for reference, and what I can use the common/uncommons for.

The rakdos sacrifice deck there is probably the most powerful. Rakdos sacrifice's core of cat/oven/mayhem devil is all uncommon and you can do a lot from that simple framework. The full deck does run a lot of rares but it also might not be well suited for the meta once Ikora comes out so I would probably hold off on spending rare wildcards.
I do remember when I first started, I have a severe lack of uncommon wildcards but if you stick around long enough then you'll end up with more common/uncommon wildcards than you can use. You get a bunch in the packs and you end up not needing that many once you have crafted the ones you want. Staple uncommons tend to be reused in a bunch of different decks so you'll rarely need specific uncommons for a new deck.

Whelp, a bunch of my friends got back into this because they're stuck WFH, and linked me a bunch of Godzilla previews.
I was CLEAN dammit, and now the sickness is inside of me. Ikoria looks SO COOL.
I fired up my old MTGO account, but I'd lost all of my saved decks since I'd changed computers after quitting. Also the UI is different and wasn't very quick to react.
So I tried this fancy new MTGA thing, and it's so much smoother and prettier than MTGO. I have since beaten the tutorial and started accruing various currencies. This could be a problem, as I'm already addicted pretty hard to one gatcha game.

Any bonuses for new players I should be aware of?

Have Tri-Lands ever been printed? There's a world article that seems like it's hinting at the idea to my eyes
Ikoria has five major geographical regions called "triomes." Each triome has its own unique terrain, a dominant clade of monsters, and a fearsome apex monster. Another traveling Planeswalker named Narset told me that these triomes are due to the unique flow of magic through the land of this plane. Each region is the result of three distinct types of mana mixing together.
of course it could just be flavour for the various deck themes
Ugh, I've got my shit kicked in by Krenko Kingpin three times already today. That card is just murder if they get it out early and you can't stop the attacks. One dude managed to pair it with an early Mace of the Valiant and had Krenko up to 30 damage before I finally gave up. Though I almost stayed in just to time how long it would take the 30+ 1/1's to all attack. Maybe I should have stayed in hopes putting 60 1/1's on the board with somehow crash the game.
What are the goto card discussion sites?
I used to go to mtgsalvatio. But I can't find any new threads or I am looking in the wrong place.
My general magic sites are ChannelFireball, TCGPlayer, and Star City Games. For star city games, you can only read articles that are 2 weeks old but they're generally worthwhile. For sepecific card discussion as they're spoiled, I don't really have a good source. Reddit usually has individual card discussion but only for the cards that catch people's interest.
it turns out I'm extremely bad at building draft decks. I guess lose until you get good

This deck went 2-3, one time I had Protean early and went about 6 turns straight with no enchantment to trigger Protean. Beetle only showed up once, and I never saw Eutropia. Alirios did good work but nothing fantastic.
