Offensively the -1 rend will help, but I'm curious to see what's happening to marauders. They were our best unit by far before.
They've become complete trash now. 5 points less expensive but lost the entirety of their previous offensive power. They really do want you to be holding the line down with units of chaos warriors and knights, not naked dudes.
Edit: Great top of the page.
I mean I'm okay with that. It's definitely preferable to have warriors, knights and chosen be the brunt of the force.
However only 5 points cheaper for being completely gutted doesn't sound great.
weird I went and looked because I was curious about the warcry warbands to use in instead of the marauders and they got rid of the cypher lords it looks like

They appear to be on the UK site (though listed as Temporarily Out of Stock), but are gone from the US and Canadian sites. (I didn't check beyond that.)
The two feet options (clawed or hooved) actually change the pose of the model.
There are two chest pieces (one more 40k-ish with power cables).
Left arm has a slimmer AoS vambrace or a bulkier gun-fused option, plus a "normal" hand or big claws.
Right arm can be set at different angles, and also has more AoS and more 40k vambrace options. "Normal" hand with sword or axe, and then a clawed hand.
Back has the options of wings, a 40k-ish power pack, or a trophy rack (with optional Stormcast and Primaris trophies).
Shoulder pads have a more AoS-ish set and a more 40k one, but also includes sculpted icons for Chaos Undivided as well as those of all four gods.
The tail has five choices for it's tip.
The six heads we've seen (four similar to the gods' respective greater daemons).
The upcoming White Dwarf 483 will have Warcry rules for the 2 Underworlds : Gnarlwood warbands
I have the Gnarlwood box now, and those 2 extra Rivals decks are interesting; they both have a Plot card with special rules and effects, and you have to use the Plot card if you have at least one card in your deck from That Rivals deck. You can only have 1 Plot card (there’s an exception with the Desecration warband from previous year).
One deck is based around Exploration, and has an Exploration progress track of 10 levels. But that’s not the interesting one; the other deck is basically based around being a Berserker; all-in on the attack and with lowered defence. It even has a Domain card (stays into play until another Domain card is played) that gives all Khorne fighters +1 Move.
I haven’t checked out the rules (and their differences) yet, so I can’t comment on that.
Basically I feel with the DoK one it's a mixer as for a starter it's ok as you can build your army off it
The Sylvaneth is not really anything my brother wants since it means a 3rd Drycha will give him 5? treemen I think he has two but he said he has 3? the Revenants are a maybe and I don't know how many dryads he has
The Skaven again is messy
The hopper force well it would have been nice when I started it as I finally got a mangler
I know but I got 10 more hoppers making it a grand total of 30 I now have. A mangler 12 squigs and the warboss on the giant that's my goof around army. I might get another mangler or more squigs to round it out
The stormcast looks tempting for me because of the dragons. that casting force they had a couple of years ago that you needed the mini that came in soul wars to play with I feel is higher my list?

That's a lot of squigs! Hmm, maybe I should get one of those just in case I have nothing to do on a rainy day...

The new Chaos army box set is very tempting especially since that Daemon Prince can do double duty for both an AoS and my 40k Chaos forces.

It's a solid box, and the new S2D book looks like a lot of fun, plenty of viable lists in there. I kinda wish they'd taken the time to streamline some of the unit choices so that there aren't, like, 10 different types of 'weak cultist chaff' and such, maybe take the opportunity to ditch some of the older, redundant kits, but that's a minor quibble.
Skaven seem to be a major outlier for armies that have more than about 30 warscrolls when it comes to internal balance.

Warhammer Fest 2023 is gonna be conveniently in my home town, so it seems like a shame not to at least check it out and see what's going on in there, not sure if there's enough to merit a full 3-day weekend event of it, but I can maybe throw something into golden demon for a laugh.

So I'm working on the Daemon Prince from the new Slaves to Darkness army box and I'm not sure if want to go Sword or Talons.

Fortunately you don't have to make the choice, cos they always come with talons! Unfortunately you do have to pick between sword or axe though, in which case I'd lean towards the axe for the consistent damage.

Well I don't have to pick in terms of rules but the claws look real fucking cool on the mini if you go with the big metal talons.
Still not decided on a paint scheme either. I kind of don't want to go with a sort of standard Slaaneshi color scheme.

That seems like a miserable amount of used scrolls from their "flagship" army.

Stormcast are heavily skewed by the fact that they have a crapload of heroes. They have more characters than some armies have units.

So in the end I magnetized, though just the main weapon arm, couldn't see myself switching out the bitchin' metal claws on the offhand. Now I need to figure the best way to magnetize the sphiranx head I'm using ideally so I can swap it out with the other Sphiranx head style. Don't know if the hair from the Sphiranx will work though. I'm thinking I'll do a plains/Savanah/badlands theme the my Slaves to Darkness and paint the Daemon Prince sort of like a lion/big cat or hyena. Maybe give it some rosettes or spots. Going with a golden brown and I'll try and make it look furred. I didn't want to do exactly what I did with my Sphiranx but I'll definitely do so something similar. Might try and see if I can use cut up Sphiranx bits to give it a mane. That might be a bit overambitious though.

A countdown image posted to facebook that is overtly Gloomspite Gitz-y:
(The Underworlds roadmap had a GSG warband coming out in December, so it's almost assuredly in reference to that.)
The bird skull is interesting though - that's not something normally associated with 'Gitz... except for old Forest Goblins/Spiderfang, who traditionally have a bunch of feathers and such as decoration... but that's a stretch.
Edit:
The one-day-to-go image is looking a little Beastmen-y, definitely Chaos related at least.
And the preview outlines have what are definitely a new GSG shaman, and... what looks like a goblin in the vein of Rippa's Snarlfangs...
Edit2:
New Beastlord... is plastic, but I prefer the look of the old one.
New Snarlfang Riders are neat, but look exactly like the Rippa's Snarlfangs warband so not really surprising.
New Gitz warband is cool, but more of an alternative to Zarbag's lads than something more different feeling.
My guess for the spring books is : Cities of Sigmar, Khorne, Slaanesh, Ossiarch, Flesh-Eaters.
And for the summer I guess Seraphon as by then the Warcry box with the Chameleons has certainly been released.
Halos Nach TariffCan you blame me?I'm too famous.Registered Userregular
Assuming none of these are entirely new factions, there're only 2 chaos books left after BoC (Slaanesh and Khorne).
All Death factions bar Nighthaunt need an update, but Soulblight were the last book of 2.0, so I'd guess the spring books will be FEC and OBR, which both have mechanical issues with the 3.0 rule set.
Destruction are fully up to date post Gitz, I think.
Which just leaves Order, who have ~3 tomes still from last edition, Kharadron, Seraphon, and Cities. My guess would be that Cities will be a later release, but it depends how far along their new model range actually is, I suppose.
Given the slow drip of teaser images, Cities feels like it's a way off still.
I wonder if it'll release around the time of The Old World and they'll shift all the legacy Empire and Dark Elf sculpts over to that, kinda like how they rereleased the Terminators and mk3 marines for HH2E.
A whole new range for CoS, then old sculpts repackaged to pad out The Old World
Given the slow drip of teaser images, Cities feels like it's a way off still...
Wasn't the "we're going to preview the development of new CoS" announced around the same time as "we're going to be preview the development of new World Eaters"? (I poked around WarCom but couldn't find those articles.)
So I'm with Corp. Carl in thinking that those Order books are CoS and Seraphon (the latter of which have some rumour engines).

The fact that we haven't seen anything beyond 3d component renders for new Cities implies to me that we're still aways off from release, more like a Sisters of Battle timeline than a World Eaters, but without knowing how many kits the update is going to be it is hard to say, for sure.
Poking around, it looks like the announcement and first preview of renders for the World Eaters was on May 4 (Warhammer Fest), with the only other preview of bits that I can find happening on Sept 5.*
WarCom was forced into showing Angron early, after a leak, on July 8.
Then they showed off one new Berzerker on Aug 8 ("Khorne Day"), the full Berzerkers on Sept 1 (NOVA), Lord Invocatus on Oct 8 (Warhammer Day), and the rest just now (US Open NM).
*Humourously, a bunch of stuff in this article had already been seen a few days earlier in the Berzerker reveal article.
//
The announcement of the CoS update was May 5 (Warhammer Fest), with further showing off of renders on Sept 16 and Nov 9.
//
So WE had most of their release shown off over three reveal shows in the course of ~two-and-a-half months. If we take the Codex to be coming ~February, then they were fully revealed ~three months in advance.
If CoS are the early Order Battletome, and we take it to be releasing ~March, then - yeah - that is getting a bit close. (Though if they come back in the new year and immediately start showing them all off I think that would flow reasonably well). If they're not in the spring though I think the summer 'tome is still a good bet.
I know I have heard rumors they are rebooting the look of the lizardmen
The Beastlord shown last night is another problem as they were one of the armies I wanted to play but the models always turned me away and they are basically the same models you can still get
