So what are the general takes from y'all about Carnival Row? Roomy and I watched it and it was fine. They really went out of their way to try and show as many tits and butts as Game of Thrones, it seems.

I haven't watched it yet because Cara Delevingne is a Bad Actress and Orlando Bloom is only good when he is allowed to go full camp with his performance, which doesn't seem likely from the previews

I may still watch it eventually though, because in many ways it is a concept tailor made for me

Yeah, for sure. Just a weird sentence and I'm easily amused.

Last week at work somebody said "fuck the sex" and I'm still periodically laughing about it.

She wasn't that bad in it, honestly. Orlando Bloom was sporadic, I guess. Ranging from really good to passable. There were some standout performances from secondary characters, though.

I thought Bloom and Delevigne were fine. It’s definitely the secondary characters who carry the weight of the world-building though. The show reminds me a lot of the old Troika game Arcanum really, with the whole fantastic-races-oppressed-by-jerky-humans thing.

I bet twelve thousand dollars that the millennials in this show will be teenagers, i.e. not millennials at all and in fact gen-z, because using the word "millennials" is just code for "I hate young people."

Unironically from the inventors of youth culture. Boomers just somehow continue to get worse.

One thing I’m appreciative of as the years pass is it’s becoming a lot less tenable for a character in a present-day TV show to have a backstory of “is a Vietnam veteran.”

I think pretty much every actiony drama of the last ten years has had at least one deeply troubled character who is a veteran of Iraq, Afghanistan, or both.

Oh, hey, this episode of Veronica Mars has one of the characters hanging out on the beach in (allegedly) Mollymook, Australia.

    Two fun facts about mollymook;
    - both my grandmother and great uncle died there
    - It’s on the east coast, and this scene clearly has the sun setting over the water. Plus a US style lifeguard hut with an Australian flag casually draped on it

We have a west coast as well guys, you could have almost made this work.

made me angry. If you're going to decide after an obstacle wrecks someone car and sends them to hospital in an ambulance that it's too dangerous and you probably shouldn't wreck people's cars, the person who's car was wrecked should not get eliminated.

I didn't get to the end of the episode before I had to leave for work, so I'm hoping they announce she gets a wildcard entry to season 2 if they have one or something like that.

    Definitely finish the episode.

I did, and I feel better now.

Also, the TV remote (or any other remote) in our house has always been 'the bopper'.
