I'm playing one of the story modes and this is so bad. Losing by luck of the draw is stupid. Turn 5 or 6, this boss had a 14/14 card on the table.

Before you give up completely, try Battlegrounds. It’s a Battle Royale version of Hearthstone. The P2W aspect is substantially reduced; I think that the season pass gives you one extra hero to select from (4 rather than 3), and emotes.
Civics is not a consumer product that you can ignore because you don’t like the options presented.

I haven't uninstalled the game yet. I'm going to give it ONE MORE TRY tonight for a couple / few hours. What stage of grief am I at right now?

I didn't get to pick anything. The game starts you off as a mage, you play through a few tutorial rounds, then the game suggests going into the practice mode to unlock the other character class decks, and that's it.
As you level up to 10 with each class, you do a slow trickle of unlocking "basic" class specific cards for each. This part can be done playing practice mode.
Edit - BTW the Mage ability is absolute SHIT. 2 mana for one damage, while other classes are getting either 2 damage or multi-rounds of damage (rogues) or damage plus armor, etc. Like what the actual fuck?
The upside of the Mage one is they don't have to take damage to use their ping like Rogue/DH/Druid do. I'd honestly rank Mage's as the third best one, behind Warlock and DH.

No, there's.... supposed to be a free deck recipe that they give you. Like an actual fully constructed deck, legendaries and all.
The free deck is only granted to New Players and to Returning Players who have not logged into Hearthstone in the past 4 months beginning on March 17, 2020.
You will only be offered the deck after you complete the New or Returning Player Introductory Quests.
Each Hearthstone account is limited to one free deck per play region.
If you are a new player, or a returning player, you will be asked to complete a few introductory quests before you can jump to the game. You must complete these quests before you can play daily quests or earn login rewards during events and promotions.
New Player
In addition to the tutorial, new players must complete the following quests. New Players who play Ranked Mode and reach Bronze are offered a free deck.

If you want some advice on which to pick, I'd recommend the Rogue, Mage, or Warlock. Mage comes with two Legendaries that you can use in any deck (Zephrys and Dragonqueen), but require you to build a deck without any duplicate cards. ...But you can use those two in any deck you want, just as long as you obey the deck-building restriction. They're very powerful legendaries!

Why the hell is Cenarius so fucking impossible in this dumb 'story' quest? He just drops multiple 7/7 (or stronger) tanks over and over again.

New players to Hearthstone start in the Apprentice League, which contains 40 ranks, from Apprentice 40 to Apprentice 1. These ranks are exclusive to new players only, and players cannot lose stars in these ranks.
Many rewards are given out to players for climbing the Apprentice League. Players earn 3 Classic card packs upon reaching rank milestones at Apprentice 35, 30, 25, 20, 15, 10 and 5. Upon advancing out of Apprentice 1 and the entire Apprentice League, the player earns 2 Classic packs and 2 packs each for the most recent four Hearthstone expansions. The player will then be promoted to Bronze 10, gaining access to the normal player ranks and the ability to play with Wild cards.

Thanks for the advice and info in my brief days with this game. I'm old enough now to know poison when I see it and this game is it. Sucks that the Hearthstone community can't genuinely grow because of how insurmountable it is for new players to join in, I feel bad for those of you who got in early enough to be able to compete. You're stuck with more or less the same people to play with.
Wow, that is a really long climb to the free deck. I suppose the rationale was to give new players a lot of time and chance to get a fair number of packs before they become chum in the general population.
I appreciate you sharing your journey @Henroid. It was definitely fun watching you go through the stages of HS so fast. We haven’t had a true new player experience here in a long time.
