The auto tracking cannon variants seem like they could make controllers more viable versus HOTAS?
My friend played the beta on Xbox purely with a controller and the aiming is just fine with it. The only thing he said he was looking forward to playing with his HOTAS are the more easily accessible buttons to control power/targeting/etc without compromising aiming.

My friend played with a Thrustmaster HOTAS. The only problem they had was finding Button 3 (it's not the same?) and button 9 (it's unlabeled).
I have it preordered on Steam, but I can't tell you if it will install Origin when I go to play it. No preload available.
If you buy it from Steam you will not need Origin

Sorry for the italian, basically he's saying that only the Epic Store version requires Origin, for the Steam version only the account linking is required, afterwards Squadrons works without Origin. Thought this was helpful because I didn't found an official statement on the matter anywere else.

But that four bucks is much better spent not using Origin.
Origin is actually fine. But steam is convenient and honestly, months from now when I'm just idly scrolling through games to play, I don't look at anything but steam. It's funny like that.
