Currently watching people argue about why Gura blew up like she did with american audiences instead of (vtuber that's only in Japanese that stream inconsistently and you need plugins to be able to see the fan translations in chat) and slowly going mad

Top posted comment from the creator seems to confirm that it was a paid commission. Which is good and correct! Cover leans way too heavily on fans doing the legwork for them out of love of the game. They should be actively paying for the really high quality stuff and commissioning work for high profile streams (the official translations on the official Hololive sub channel are great). Like... every 3D should have officially supported subs. They should offer Japanese subs for EN or ID works that will clearly hit a huge audience (example: Hololive EN Minecraft Christmas stream). Maybe they do plan on doing stuff like this, I don't know, but they really really should.

I'm taking a look at some of the racing and dude, Aqua knows her shit with this game, holy smokes. I would've bet on her to win just guessing it seems like the sort of game she would know to this extent and it looks like it was a safe enough bet. She's still my favorite.

... That's actually upsetting to listen to. She's trying to walk it off (by way of trying to tease herself over it) but she's actually straight up crying. AND she's being too hard on herself.
Reminder Otakmori has a reputation for being incompetent speed subbers and their translations shouldn't be trusted for anything remotely serious.
This reminds me of when Coco posted the meme about Towa's cat and how Google mistranslated "The cat vomited" to "I'm getting rid of my cat." The point about being aware of possible translation mistakes is important, nobody should fly off the handle based on a single source translation that could be wrong (in fact... don't fly off the handle at all, how about that).
However, the smug attitude in that meme and the DeepL one rubs me SUPER the wrong way. Ah yes, it was so foolish of me to rely on translation software or a prolific subs YouTube channel. Clearly what I should have done was devote years of study to learning a new language to watch more YouTube videos and read some Twitter accounts. Don't be elitist because you speak multiple languages, just be helpful. No one is impressed at shitting on a bad translation, they just want to know what would be the most accurate. I'm not criticizing you, TNT, just to be clear. I'm criticizing a clout chasing attitude I've seen floating around that this reminds me of.
