Roland Emmerich is still working in Hollywood and his favorite genre is still desaster porn. But since he already had nearly every disaster imaginable in his movies, there are only a few places left to go.
So why not drop the moon onto the earth, huh?
Wouldn't the moon break apart as it reached the Roche limit? Or is the earth's gravitational field not strong enough to do that? Also Italo Calvino did a much better tragedy about the moon being closer to earth "the distance of the moon"
To be fair in that story the moon is also literally made of cheese
Only parts of it. The longing, the thought that her obsession was just playing a prank on the moon, my God it's full of stars.

I like this approach. If you're going to steal from the past, this is how you do it instead of just shitting on it to make something inferior, they just used a name and slid it over a bit so it's halfway in the OG's shadow and not trying to push the original down and think it's better. And her dad is Bruce Lee and Mowgli, so that's classy.
I do wonder how good the film credits are in Hawaii though, this is what, 4 shows filmed there right now?
I've been freaking out since yesterday. I really want this to be good. Full trailer tomorrow, but check out the teaser site with some headphones if you get a minute.
Not sure how The Matrix is going to hold up in 2021.
Oh, the machines want to lock me in a simulation of 1999 for the rest of my life? Sounds good, where do I sign up? I can get my tips frosted in the sim, right? I need to fit in.

"You mean I can live in a virtual world where there aren't wild fires, floods, and a global pandemic? Yeah, I'll have the steak please."
"Did you know that the first Matrix was designed to be a perfect human world? Where none suffered, where everyone would be happy. It was a disaster. No one would accept the program. Entire crops were lost."
Regardless of it being better than current life or not, I'm hype on a new Matrix. It's one of my favorite franchises.
Yeah, I'm looking forward to it too.
I just wanted to make a pithy comment to stroke the lizard part of my brain that likes seeing reactions and get them sweet sweet endorphins.
Speaking with Empire, the John Wick star praised the “beautiful” script as the reason to come back:
“Lana Wachowski wrote a beautiful script and a wonderful story that resonated with me,” he says. “That’s the only reason to do it. To work with her again is just amazing. It’s been really special, and the story has, I think, some meaningful things to say, and that we can take some nourishment from.”
Moss echoed Reeves’ sentiments in the same Empire article, noting that she was also incredibly surprised a Matrix 4 happened in the first place:
"I never thought that it would happen. It was never on my radar at all. When it was brought to me in the way that it was brought to me, with incredible depth and all of the integrity and artistry that you could imagine, I was like, ‘This is a gift.’ It was just very exciting."
As someone who loved the first movie, and progressively liked the sequels less and less, I'm cautiously optimistic. Reeves is clearly doing well enough these days that it's unlikely to be just for the money (no sane actor is going to say "it's shit but they parked a dumptruck of cash outside my house so lol guess we're doing this again!"). I'm intrigued, I'll check out the trailer, but what fondness I have for the franchise is tempered by seeing all 3 in theaters and only really walking out of one of those completely happy with what I just paid to see.
Yes, of course, the series (even the later titles) has some remarkable effects and fight sequences, but with a story that goes rather off the rails on a bunch of levels, I'm going to reserve the right to a healthy measure of skepticism.
First they came for the Muslims, and we said NOT TODAY, MOTHERFUCKER!
That's promising, but I am still somewhat skeptical that the premise of the Matrix will resonate in 2021. I feel like the original tapped into a very late-90s zeitgeist, which is why it was so culturally resonant and successful. Personal computers and the internet were still pretty new ideas to a lot of people, same with 3D video games and CGI, trench coats and Oakleys were still cool, hacker chic was floating around in pop culture. There was a sense that a digital/information age was being born, and The Matrix spoke to those anxieties while incorporating a lot of references and signifiers of tech culture at the time. Now the cyberpunk aesthetic is retro if anything and the culture around tech is boring and shitty. The idea of evil AI almost seems quaint. I'm sure you can still tell an interesting sci-fi action story set in that universe, I'm just not sure it's going to speak to the times like the original.
Things Noberd would find Interesting in a new Matrix Movie
A cult that preaches staying off the Matrix as the only way to be spiritually pure, but the cult leader actually spends all their time jacked in, living in the Matrix in a compound with all the sex slaves and drugs a modern cult leader would have.
A human faction that "rescues" people from the Matrix. This faction initially provides for the rescued, but forces them into debt to pay of those provisions, ultimately using the rescued as slave labor.
A faction of people that go to live in newly terraformed sites on the earth's surface, a kind of new frontier where if you are willing to take the risk, you get a plot of land. However, they soon discover previously unknown human colonies that had survived on the surface. The settlers decide to murder them to take what is theirs. A tiny group of people try to broker peace between the factions, but the settlers kill everybody anyway.
Rival religious group who worship Neo but hate each other. It is purposefully never mentioned why, just that they hate eachother.
Super drugs for those living in the Matrix. These drugs let you getsuper fucked up but without all the negatives of real drugs, like addiction.
Slurs for former Matrixers. "Plug head" or suchlike.

Don't Look Up, eh. Adam McKay works better in comedy and if this is more Big Short dramedy I'm not holding out hope for it. Lost a lot of hope when I saw the Netflix logo too.
C'mon C'mon, I'm interested but wary, what's the depressing catch and how much kid actor is in it to potentially ruin it.
"Oh a soft reboot, well Q is fun and .....totalitarian? How is it different from the federation before? Its black instead of white? WAIT WHAT ARE YOU DOING PLEASE STOP OH NO IM SORRY I COMPLAINED ABOUT DARKFLEET"

I feel bad for Star Trek fans, it's like a more blatant destruction of what you liked and cared for compared to the comics industry. Poor Rich and Mike...

uh.. what? time travel stories are basically peak trek- and Q isn't affected by his own time shenanigans, the Q aren't affected by out linear flow if time
I mean, half of that trailer looked really promising and the other half looked a little generic
So it's a matrix sequel alright
I liked it a lot better than i expected, so I'm cautiously optimistic. And it's got both Keanu and Carrie-Anne Moss, each of whom could carry a story by themselves..

Man, that Matrix trailer is great. Sign me up. Opening setup looks great, I still have no idea how it will all tie together, and the action they teased looks incredible.

I really am curious what decades of maturation on the part of the writers/directors and the world as a whole will bring.
Yeah, I'm looking forward to it too.

Like I'm hoping for the fans that it's good, but I'm expecting the very worst thing for a Matrix movie: boring.
