Take a look at the LEGO Lord of the Rings Rivendell in this reveal video! This massive LEGO set has 6167 pieces, 15 minifigures, and is loaded full of Easter eggs from The Lord of the Rings! It has a retail price of $500 USD and comes out on March 5th.

like what if I blew $500 USD on a lego set for myself

I mentioned this in the bicycle thread but I'm sinking some money into a custom build at my local bike co-op

That shop is hella queer and worker-owned though, like there's literally a trans pride and anarchy emblem just under their framed IWW charter, so there's at least some ethical consumption there right

I want to get through them all in one day. Hopefully this week is when dumb little adult things stop getting in the way.

I bought a handful of model kits as a present to myself. Not lego, but scale models of the Delorean from BTTF, Millenium Falcon (ROS version but w/e its the Falcon, and it was cheap enough), and 2 Pokemon. I have to eventually work on those.

I currently have the UCS millenium falcon, the tim burton batwing, and a bunch of flowers sitting in a room waiting to be put together, as I bought them to be housewarming gifts to myself when I eventually buy a house at some point in the next several years

I've 80% convinced myself to buy an electric car because it's under 20K and my current car is a 2003 Subaru. What would I even do driving a car manufactured after the US invasion of Iraq??

Lego's 90th anniversary was last year, they've been doing a few classic sets

    4gswtwmgi44l.jpg

they made a $400 castle set that is extremely rad, it's one of my favorite sets they've done

  • DJ EebsDJ Eebs Moderator, Administrator admin
anyways I think that Rivendell set is really cool but I think the $500 price tag and space requirements probably put it just out of reach for me right now

Nothing wrong with a 20 year old car. Nothing wrong with replacing it with a newer one.

Unless it's a jeep. Wrong in both accounts.

The ucs falcon takes up my entire IKEA end table and kinda hangs over the edges. Definitely not apartment decor.

You could likely, with pretty minimal work, turn it into the lighthouse from the movie The Lighthouse. IDK how you'd get ahold of Willem DaFoe and Robert Patrick minifigs but I'm reasonably sure you could get very close.

Subarus are interesting in that they (and especially models on the EA and EJ series engines) have kind of old-school reliability - they'll hit like 400,000+ miles handily *if* you do proper maintenance and keep them rust free, but if you don't they'll probably implode by 150k

My first Subaru would've been the former if the frame hadn't rusted out, my second was a total shitshow until I un-fucked a lot of electrical issues the previous owner had covered up instead of properly fixing and then as soon as I'd sorted those out it got totaled by a deer running on to I-95

I'm still sad I couldn't afford tickets to see mastodon and gojira in Detroit in August Because the tickets would have been basically 200 bucks for two cheaper seats.

I've seen the Mountain Goats three times and I think the total ticket price of all three shows was probably under $100. Maybe slightly above that. Of course, they're mostly playing in like...clubs.

As someone whose cars have been similar ages, they have Bluetooth now! I skipped CD players entirely in my two cars, although I still just plug my phone in with a jack.

If I had the money and the space that Rivendell set would be mine. My wife and I just watched the extended trilogy over the past month. And it is a gorgeous set. Usually the only big buys I make are collectors editions for video games. Not currently anything on my radar though.
