I used to enjoy playing, casually, with people in real life who also knew the rules but also didn't study it. And that was super fun, basically a tactics game. I like tactics games! But I really, really hate memorization games.
When my wife is concentrating on a task she will forget to eat, drink and take bathroom breaks. It impressive in how much she can get done when concentrating like that, but she also appreciates when a co-worker reminds her to take care of herself.
