Metal Gear Solid 4 delayed to Q2 of 2008: Inflammatory Thread Title Here

KONAMI announced today that "METAL GEAR SOLID 4 GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS", the latest in the METAL GEAR series, is scheduled to be released in the second quarter of 2008.

KONAMI had initially intended to release "METAL GEAR SOLID 4 GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS" this winter and has been working on the production of the title. KONAMI has decided to delay the title's release in order to make further improvements to the quality of the game and provide even greater enjoyment for more customers worldwide.

KONAMI will continue its efforts to make "METAL GEAR SOLID 4 GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS" meet everyone's expectations.

    This sucks but it's not altogether very surprising. So now they're aiming at a July-Sept release, which means it won't be released in close proximity with GTA4 (which is currently being targeted at a Feb-Apr release).

    And to think, it was supposed to come out this month. November would have been a lot more interesting, sales wise, if it did.

    It did officially get delayed to March. Now, it's gone further.

    Like I said in my post, it's July - September. Like most Japanese companies, Konami's fiscal year starts in April and finishes in March.

    Also, it looks like the PS3 lineup is going to be pretty crowded come mid-late 2008. MGS4, GT5, Infamous, Resistance 2 (it'll happen), LittleBigPlanet and Killzone 2 are some I can remember off the top of my head, with Tekken 6, Heavy Rain and even God of War 3 rumoured to be 2008 titles (though I highly doubt the latter one will come out before 2009).

    I had really intended to pick up a PS3 after the holidays in large part due to Metal Gear Solid 4, but since I doubt we'll even see the damn thing before next fall, I won't be terribly surprised at myself if I really do skip over the console this generation.

    You know, I would not be surprised if a PR dude tried to spin it that way.

    I could have sworn I heard the MGS4 release date as being projected to be early next year anyway. I don't think I've heard anyone say winter '07 since before this year's e3.

    What you should be pissed about is the fact that they have no intention of releasing the hour-long demo shown at E4 All onto the PSN market. :x

    March was the intended worldwide release date, hence "This Winter". Winter ends in March. Now. . .Japan gets it in Spring, we get it in Summer.

    Well, at least I don't have to rush to buy a PS3 now. Although, Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted are becoming mighty tempting. . .

    Next year's holiday Season is cracking up to have all the games Sony needed to have for this holiday season. Doubt we'll see Snake again till Nov/Dec 08.

    More likely it's the same reason behind all those other PS3 delays: the system is a pain to program for.

    Anyway, this might be for the best for MGS, since it'll keep it away from the GTA juggernaut.

    Edit: Huh, looks like the new metal gear model may indeed debut in Smash, then.

    Uh, no. If they had finished the PS3 version and were working on a 360 port, they'd release the PS3 version as soon as possible and then the 360 version later.

    Chances are, they're having a bit of trouble and are working through it. They've already recorded nearly all the english dialogue so that's not really an issue either.

    cloudeagle: Except all those other PS3 delays are happening because they're being ported from the 360 to the PS3, while MGS4 was built from the ground up for it. I'd say it's more likely they're having trouble with some of the game design, Ryan Payton mentioned that the demo footage we've seen may be entirely different from the end product.

    I know its an old topic but I didn't want to make a new topic for this in case it was old news.

    slight spoiler about Raidens character for MGS4
    I was just reading last months Official PSM3 magazine (UK) and it had a rundown on the characters in MGS4 including Olga's daughter. The interesting part was where they quoted the designer as saying that Raiden was "Falling apart" and was " little more than a head and spine in a super suit". Just thought that was kinda interesting since Raidens apparently been eviscerated since MGS2.
