If I knew no better, I would say there is not enough string in the world to bring about such an event. Yet you've managed to pull them all.

-Mimir, dear friend, your flattery of me falls short. I've yet to run through my first skein.

While the fighting spreads quickly, it has struggled to keep pace with the ever hastening fragmentation of loyalties. The einherjar are torn between joining their living compatriots and serving their Asgardian lords. Likewise, the ranks of the living see division between those grasping for a wreckless new order and the dissenters arguing to maintain the natural balance. The ranks of the gods themselves are in equal disarray. Frey saw in the uprising his own opportunity to lead the Vanir against the Aesir once again. While many of his compatriots eagerly joined him in this endeavor, Freya remained by Odin's side, splitting the interests of her colleagues, and dealing a harsh blow to the campaign's momentum.

Though the lines are blurred, the prize is clear, and each side fights passionately for its own claim to power.

Twenty weeks, now, and the biggest change has been the weather. While the temperature dips, and the snow falls, rumors sprout in the camps of every faction regarding a weapon of unbounded power. Details of the artifact outside of its location are scarce, yet each faction is quick to search it out, and troops from all sides are dispatched to Franang's Falls.

Frosti, one of the few dwarves choosing to become entangled in the conflict, took up the vanguard of Midgard's detachment, the Prjtty Prjyncesses, heading towards the falls. Even on this moonless night, the soldiers marched on. (The information is reliable, they must be the first to reach the peak of Franang.) Frosti jovially recounted his experiences with the Aesir. The boiling point had been a commission from Modi.

Three mules! He's lucky to still have his head, he is. Why, if only...

    A low whistle.

    Guh...

Frosti slowly slouched over, falling to his side as the iron javelin in his chest tapped against the ground. As his body fell, torches lit on all sides of the battalion.

    Men, to arms!

The Aesir's einherjar quickly set to tearing through the disoriented men, but soon fell prey to an ambush of their own, as a division of Frey's forces cut fully into their flank from the east. The resulting chaos is enough for the Prjyncesses to regroup, and a new three-sided battle begins.

The rising sun was greeted by a field of bodies, speckled with a handful of standing men from the battalion that had been proudly marching the night prior. A few more survivors, worn by the fighting, reclined on piles of the fallen.

    How many still stand?

    -Sixty.

But sixty? Surely, there must be an error.

-Ah, correct you are. It seems we are currently sixty-three strong, with our order of command in shambles.

Let's just continue on. We already have our orders.

As the small band reached the base of the falls, they were greeted by two faces. One, as would be expected, was situated comfortably upon a human body, but the other gazed on from its perch on a long staff wielded in that body's left hand.

The head on the stick spoke.

I am Mimir. It was by my lips that word of the artifact above us has reached your ears. I can assure you, any army aided by this device will find naught to fear in this, or any other world. However, which army, if any, will enjoy this luxury is yet to be determined. Your ranks contain not only men, but those who no longer are men, as well as those who never were. I'd advise you to sort things out soon, as a conflict of interest at the summit will not end end well. If you'd allow it, Hoenir and I will accompany you on your climb, but for now, I grow weary. I am but a head on a stick, after all.

cj might have a point. Maybe we should end this norn-sense for now, lest he skuld us again.

Then again, this is proving a delightful distraction from the research paper I should be working on.

Besides, he might just be fulla himself. Let's see what he can bring to the long table.
