- Stay civil and don't be a jerk. Flinging insults around can get you banned, and if the entire thread spins out of control, it could get closed down for good.
- Stay on topic. While it's okay to make random predictions of what you hope to see in Brawl, do not go too far off track while discussing other series or characters. If the thread goes too far off-topic, it could get closed down for good.
- Do not make posts that simply say "blue dot" to mark this thread. Be constructive in your posts or you could get infracted.

Update - 12/04/07 - Thanks Bruin!
<Returning Pokémon>
If you haven’t played the last game or the one before that, you may be left wondering something like, "Why isn’t this Pokémon or that Pokémon in the game?" All I’ve been introducing are the ones new to this game.

So now I’d like to introduce several of the Pokémon that appeared in past installments that will be appearing again in Brawl.

Celebi

The likelihood of mysterious Pokémon appearing is quite low. Mew and Celebi are especially rare, but they may leave you some kind of present.

Mew dropped a CD. Accept it with gratitude!

Cracker Launcher: This projectile launcher isn't as racist as it sounds. It shoots out rapid-fire blasts and can be aimed up and down while running.

Banana Peel: Because clichés work. This item doesn't do much other than tripping an opponent.

Smoke Ball: This item deals no damage, but rather actually just blinds the player from the screen. It shoots out rainbow-colored gas.

Franklin Badge: Debuting from the Mother Series (Earthbound), it attaches to a player's chest and is basically an automatic reflector.

Golden Hammer: A coat of paint works wonders, this hammer is flung around at crazy speeds and can let you hover. Occassionally it is a worthless squeaky hammer.

Smart Bomb: From the Starfox series, this bomb creates a massive explosion when thrown.

Series Represented
So far, we've been given a list of series that have been represented, but as we get this list, its come to us out of order. We currently have gaps as shown:

ssbbyq9.png
1. Smash Brothers
2. Donkey Kong
3. StarFox
4. Kirby
5. F-Zero
6. Metroid
7. EarthBound/Mother
8. Pokemon
9. Zelda
10. Mario
11. Yoshi
12. Fire Emblem
13. ???
14. Ice Climbers
15. Animal Crossing
16. Wario
17. Metal Gear
18. Kid Icarus
19. ???
20. Sonic the Hedgehog
21. Nintendo DS

*21 Is the highest number we're aware of, it in no way indicates that it is the final number

Another Interesting Fact: By smash tradition, there has never been a stage from a game without a character from that series representing this. That and an interview on the subject lead many to believe that an Animal Crossing character is all but confirmed.

However the Pictochat stage has thrown a monkey wrench into this theory! This is because Sakurai is insane.

    Forumer Contributions:

This section of the opening post will be dedicated to any forumer contributions made to this thread by way of creating something that will be helpful for organizing online play, the setup thereof, or sharing pertinent information such as user names and friend codes. In addition to this, there is now a portion explaining more advanced Smash terminology as well.

The Penny Arcade Super Smash Brothers Brawl Online Tournament List!
This is all organized courtesy of Nickle. It is planned to take place a week or two after the game comes out so people have a chance to practice. There are still plenty of spots available here if you want to sign up.

Here is the tournament list, which is more of a placeholder than anything else. People will have to reconfirm their desire to take part in the tournament when it arrives.
PM Nickle if you want to take part in this, there is no limit to how many users can join. Let's see if we can get this up to 128. Include your state (America) or province (Canada) please.

    Smash Brothers Community Terminology

This is a very thorough look at advanced Smash terms to help end confusion about them. ChopperDave wrote it and has this to say:
Whew, that took way longer than I thought it would

I wrote the first part of this guide myself, hopefully it does a decent enough job describing some of the most-confused terms. The other, lesser important terms I just lifted from a thread in Smashboards.

It's...long, so I've split it up over two posts. The first part is all most of you will want to read, anyway, the second part (from Smashboards) has got a lot of specific, kind of unnecessary terms. I deleted some of the MOST superfluous ones (BYOC = bring your own controller, for example ), but for the most part it remains intact. By the way, if there's any terms I forgot to add or didn't describe effeciently, please let me know.

    Without further ado...:
Here are Part 1 and Part 2 of the guide.

Here is something that could be considered Part 3 of the Smash Bros Terminology. It goes over common misconceptions about tournament players and seeks to help end the SmashBoards versus casual play arguments which always seem to pop up in these threads. Everyone should take a look at these discussions:

    Flash-based replica Brawl Stage Editor

This is a really cool page designed by mntorankusu, based around the Stage Creator update on the dojo. Here are some instructions and information.
Hold Ctrl and roll over the grid to quickly select squares. Hold Shift to quickly deselect.

This is a fan-made stage editor based on the one in the upcoming game, Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Little is known about the in-game editor, so I don't make any guarantees that this one will produce stages anything like the real game. If there are any glaring inaccuracies, contact me at mntorankusu at gmail dot com.

Also, you probably shouldn't let things overlap the wide triangle piece if you want to be able to reproduce your stage in the game. It is too difficult to disallow it in this Flash editor, but I'm fairly certain you won't be able to overlap pieces in Brawl's.

You might not be able to rotate them in Brawl either. D: Try not to be too disappointed if it turns out the stages you create using the rotate feature can't be reproduced in Brawl.

Click here to play it. Here is an example of what you can do.

Customizable signatures that display user names and friend codes.

Here is something that mntorankusu and Geod have been working on, which will allow people to easily put their favorite character and friend code in a fancy signature to help organize things once the game comes out. It allows you to choose your name, character, icon, friend code, and color of character. This is what they look like:

I thought it came from the sky at first, but now I think it comes from below.

If it did do some damage and knockback people in the screenshots above the iceberg would be flinching somehow if it fell down and none of them are.

Back in the last thread, there was a discussion about what this FS did after Nana was defeated. I'd hazard a guess that the FS automatically revived her in addition to the normal effects. It wouldn't be that unbalanced, assuming that she starts with the same percentage of health Popo has.

Actually, do we know if Popo/Nana is now universal or just the default? I'd assume that it would be like Melee, where different colors put Nana in the primary position, but it's hard to tell at this point.

This can be Ness' new purpose. When Popo raises his hand, Ness can run up out of nowhere and high-five him.

This can be Ness' new purpose. When Popo raises his hand, Ness can run up out of nowhere and high-five him.

I like the idea that Ness just pops in to make cameos all over the place, like a Smash Brothers' Waldo. He's driving a Mario Kart! He randomly walks around in Smashville! He pops up and laughs whenever Lucas gets KOed!

That's not going to happen, though, because Ness is going to be playable.

Having seen the old one, nice touch-up on that image. I can't wait to see what kind of plans you have for them, though at this point I am expecting that you are going to somehow make a brawl simulator in flash from nothing but those pieces of artwork.
At least it will have Ness.

I guess I missed the drama.

It'd be nice if there was a small stage where IC's final smash would be an instant KO.

That said, where is my Falcon dammit? Show me.

That iceberg is beautiful. I secretly keep hoping that the next announcement will be that they fixed everything in the game, and it will be out in December.

    Super Flash Bros. Brawl
I wish. :( Attempts I've made to make games in Flash have mostly failed.

Wal-mart wouldn't figure out that it was released until Feb anyways, oh ho ho.

So this FS should be pretty useful when it freezes enemies and sends them flying. If enemies maybe run slow on the ice, but the ice climbers maintain tractability, then this should be a good FS for being able to pick off skidding enemies. Well I think it seems a lot more useful than Peach's shitty smash (I think the peaces that rain down and recover health should give you negative percent with her)

So. I was sitting here, thinking about the FSs in this game.

I think it is AWESOME they went with a new, item based system rather than a Street Fighter meter that increases as you attack.

I can only imagine the havoc that will happen during a match when one of the balls floats onto the screen and everyone rushes to kill it. hopefully there is an option to make the balls have more health.

So, I'll make a bet with someone.
If they beat me in Brawl, they get my sig.
If I beat them, their sig be MINE.
And I hope Ness is playable.
    He rocks.
I can't decide whether to main Ice Climbers, Pit, or Ness(Or, if he's not in, Lucas)...

That's a good bet. I'm not taking you up on it, just noting that'll probably become the standard for Brawl matches between PA members.

I think sig/avatar bets on matches should definitely be a regular thing around here. Maybe with a standard one week time limit or something.

We should come up with a bunch of official PA G&T Smash titles.

Anyone who wins a title match against someone with a title, gets that title.
