nintendo, i appreciate the effort but at least the last adventure mode was SHORT
two and half hours and i'm a fourth through it? hrgggg
I really don't get people complaining that adventure mode is lengthy. Stop trying to rifle through it in a day and it won't seem so fucking long.
I love the fact that it's a lengthy addition to the game. It's a great co-op experience, especially when you have people who don't really like fighting games but you want to play brawl
Man, I want SSE to be longer. I don't want this shit to end.
Wow. ProfWayne destroyed me tonight. I just kept getting worse and worse every match, and didn't want to give up on my Ike, so I kept feeding him more Ike. Was down hill.
Who is Leewal or something? Is he a player here? I had some refreshing games with him afterwards. Really fun matches.
Brawl Got! Been playing through SSE mostly and I have a headache and need sleep. I did, however, add my FC to the list here. For the lazy: 3007-7793-6049
In game name is JP. I'm in NY so I'm adding everyone from NY/East Coasties tonight then going to bed and I'll probably be up at 11am. Hope to see youse guys online.
So I never really thought about it until now but why did they change Pokey's name to Porky in this game? I know that's what it's supposed to be but still, they did already give him the name.
SSE was a mixed bag. I hated the stages with Mario/Pit/that crew, they seemed really boring and clusterfucky. But not the fun kind of clusterfuck that Smash Bros normally is, just annoying and dumb.
However, I loved all the other levels for the most part. I even enjoyed the Maze, other than trekking my way through it. I think part of my enjoying it comes from that I treated the Maze more like a "gauntlet" in that I was running through enemies, ignoring all but the critical ones. Was more fun that way.
Anybody know if there is a way to turn off certain stages when choosing Random Stage Select? I know you could do it in Melee, but did they drop that option in Brawl?
Also, how do you get Snake's codecs to show up?
Snake's codecs can be done with Snake on the Shadow Moses stage by mashing up and down taunts, just like changing from Samus to Zero Suit Samus mid-match.
that does not work for me for some reason. Which is more likely: Do you have to be like inhumanly fast, do it for like a minute, or is it hella precise and i just over-mash it???
Well, first make sure you're playing on Shadow Moses, and you're playing as Snake vs only one opponent (maybe it works with others, but I only tried it with one). You have to be extremely fast... I'm not sure it matters if you accidentally mash a side-taunt in there as well. I tend to put one finger from each hand on d-pad up and down, then alternately press as fast as I can. It worked less reliably if I just used my thumb and tried to "rub it out". It usually takes me a good 10-15 seconds of mashing before it will work.
Not sure if it'll help much, but I found I had greater success doing a jump first and mashing Down on the d-pad. It could have been psychosemetic but I thought I had greater success performing it this way (perhaps you need to press Down so many times before Snake pulls the box out of his animation).
While I'm posting, thought I'd mention I just got around to beating SSE, some thoughts behind the Spoiler
-I think this was a nice vehicle to present the secret characters if you hadn't heard about them already. The only one I hadn't heard yet was 'R.O.B.', but his reveal was probably the greatest of all of them.
-Speaking of reveals, Sonic's would definatly be the weakest, but again as someone else pointed out it likely was because of his late addition to the game
-While I LIKE the idea that SSE is based upon, there were definately some issues plaguing it's execution. Namely, just how easy it is for a character to get cornered and otherwise spammed into 150% damage by almost half the enemies in the game (don't get me started on those tall, screaming pixel ghosts). It's also quite obvious some characters were better designed for the fighting portion rather than some of the platforming demands of the SSE stages, particularly ones such as Fox who'se jumps favor vertical dirrection against horizontal.
-One last thing, was The Great Maze really all that nessesary?
The end of SSE is basically the Great Cave from Kirby Superstar, redux. It's not that bad, and perfectly doable on Normal for most people.
SSE is worth it for the cutscenes alone, but even if you don't care about that shit it is the best combination of easy and not shit boring way to unlock all the characters.
Sure, 1HP Stamina Flower matches are a bit faster but pressing start for an hour or two doesn't sound like my idea of a good time.
Snake is an insane powerhouse who can ko people at like 10%
You just gotta know when to whip out the rocket launcher or punch em in the face.
That rocket launcher is beastly.
My god.
Also, I'm a little tired of going "whomever wants to play post a message here!" because I inevitably miss it with how quickly this thread is going, so simply IM me on AIM or Yahoo Messenger if you want to Brawl.
Wow. ProfWayne destroyed me tonight. I just kept getting worse and worse every match, and didn't want to give up on my Ike, so I kept feeding him more Ike. Was down hill.
I had a great time. Got lucky with shot in the dark smashes that caught you because of lag. Hopefully that will clear up eventually.
Sonic is very good if your opponent is easily flustered. You can basically beat them into submission just with the homing attack.
He doesn't seem to do so well in 4 player matches.
Snake on the other hand is very weird but very good. He can't really keep up with Samus in a fire fight, but nothing is better than that rocket launcher/nikita combo for edgeguarding madness. Snake is the character to use on high difficulty all-star style events.

I am on the great smash offensive at this point.
Ugh.
Always hated the long as fuck shit in kirby games too.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
It should have been the regular game...Upside down.
When I first beat it, I wished there had been more story. But then I realized that one could pretty much fill in the blank by taking the story from Legend of Mana/Kingdom Hearts/Final Fantasy VIII and shoving it in there. Its been done before.
The final fight is amazingly fun on higher difficulties.
Snake is ridiculously fun once you understand all his little tricks. Kind of gets slapped around in a four person fight though.
I can't decide whether to main it with King Dedede or R.O.B. Dedede is a straight powerhouse, with the only useless move in sight being his neutral B, but there is something mystical about busting out R.O.B.'s final smash and flying around the stage yelling "I AM A ROBOT WHO SHOOTS LASERS".
Thanks for the Brawls, guys but it's time I hit the hay. Next time I create a room I'll have to extend the time for longer than 2 minutes. Way too many sudden deaths and wins(mine) that felt cheap.
Also, Ike's Aether is incredibly awesome. Surviving things like Marth's final smash is very useful.
After several matches, I've realized that my total lack of experience with previous smash games puts me at an extreme disadvantage. I hop into a game to spend 2 out of the 3 stocks plummeting to my doom because I jumped there myself. And that's on a good match.
If you find yourself like me, an extreme rookie in need of severe practice with like-skilled individuals, send me a PM. I'm going to post the names and friend codes of our little group of newbies in this post. So, if you want to have a few rookie players on your list to practice with before stepping it up to the big leagues (aka, everyone else in this thread), send me a PM with your profile name and friend code.

The list of skill-less wannabes is growing! PM me your info and add the names on the list. We need to band together... perhaps all of our skill combined will equal the strength of one average player.
I'm decently used to the game, but I still suck. Can I play with you guys at some point and see what happens?
Feel free. PM me if you want your name on that list.
Just to reiterate: This is simply a list of players who declare themselves "Rookies" to the game. We all make sure we have each other added, so when we're online and we see one of our fellow "Rookies" we know we can go in for an evenly-matched battle.
That being said, is the info about unlocking jigglypuff incorrect on IGN? It says you can beat Event #20 as an alternative to the SSE goal... didn't seem to work.

Yeah, that was about my only good move that entire match. Haha

I think it's ALL of the first 20. Because I did get challenged by Jigglypuff by doing events.
I thought that might have been it.. the guy who submitted the code probably played them in order #1-#20 and thought he unlocked the character because of #20 alone.
Well, looks like I have some events to clear tomorrow.
No, it's beat the first #20 events after you complete SSE.
Or just walk about 2/3rds the way through a random ass level.

Wolf is the space furry for those that don't like space furries. So much damn fun.
Hrm...He feels a little off to me. Like either some of his moves should move towards the power end of the strong/fast scale, or his movement should be a bit quicker. Not a BAD character, just not one of my mains.
Lucario definitely seems to be my 'main main' so far. I end up in rough spots with a lot of damage quite often, so the powerboost helps. Plus I love having a counter-move at my disposal, even if his isn't quite as effective as Marth/Ike's.
I did all the availible events before even starting that mode.
No puff
then I did subspace and rebeat 20
got puff.
You might only have to do part of it. I couldn't tell you. Someone who is past the swamp but with no puff should try beating the first twenty events or event 20 again and find out.
