For the most part I'm finding that it is faster, and other times I will notice that one of tabs (or processes) is just chugging away and bringing my system to a crawl for seemingly no reason at all. There have been several occasions where I had to kill a tab to get use of my computer back. Odd.

I just tried viewing source for the first time in Chrome. Oh, it's so much better than in Firefox. I just wish that it had the kind of MDI/TDI that Opera has (actually, which does Opera use?).

It's integrated into the address bar, which has been dubbed the "Omni Bar". More details, including a woefully short video!

    EDIT: Crap, beaten. Twice.

and you know what, sadly FF2 and 3, IE7, IE8, opera, all have search built into the address bar as well, they've just always had a separate bar. I honestly can't remember the last time I used the separate search bar in firefox anyway.

I'm pretty much the same. My Fx toolbar is just the back/forward buttons and the address bar - I use search keywords for everything. Was I relieved when I saw that Chrome has search keywords, too.

    I think that's a Webkit thing...don't think it's in Safari, either.

In any case, I'm flabbergasted why people even like that...I hate it when I accidently hit the middle button and then the page starts scrolling around for no reason. Gah...

Scrolling with my trackpad seems to do 1/3-1/2 a page at a time, unlike my mouse's scrollwheel which only does about 3-5 lines at a time. Very annoying, since it doesn't seem to have any specific setting in the program. But it's beta, I can't complain too much. :D

EDIT: I slowed my trackpad settings in Windows to the slowest scrolling, which has corrected the scrolling in Chrome, but we shall see how annoying it makes scrolling in any other program. :)

The history function in this browser is actually usable. Let's you browse for the exact time. Not like the other browsers which only sort by days. Full history search is nice too but Opera did that first.

I can see the downloads system getting confusing for some users though, and it seems it just cancels downloads without asking when you close the browser...?

Also, as for autoscroll, I just middle click and move the mouse slightly down and I have a page scrolling at a readable speed without me ever having to touch the mouse again until I've finished reading the page. On pages with a lot of text this is very helpful. I can see why Firefox users would think autoscroll is useless though, I totally hate Gecko's version of it too.

I like some things, like the tabs being separate processes, and especially Incognito (I would have loved this as a 13-year-old, if you get my drift). But I don't really like the single bar-- I like separate search and address bars, and I prefer FF's address bar for finding specific pages I've been to. And it isn't nearly as customizable as FF either, which is a big minus. But I'll give it some time and see how it turns out. Best case, there's a huge browser war and they all get better.

I really like the auto-population of my "new tab" page. It's the same feature as Opera, but in Opera I barely bother with Speed Dial because I just can't decide which pages should go on it.

They talk about this in the comic. They give credit to Mozilla, and encourage their "competition" to take advantage of Chrome being open source.

As they put it, they want the internet to be as good as possible, because Google lives there.

I want to use it as my primary browser but there's so many things that I dislike, wish were possible, wish were better, etc.

    - Permanent download bar across the bottom
    - Locking tabs
    - Omnibar absolutely sucks compared to IE8's
    - Different searches in the address box (Like Opera).. unless this is possible?
    - The tab shape is ugly
    - A title bar
    - A status bar
    - Ad block
    - Tab 'grouping' that IE8 introduced
    - Opera's 'Link'
    - Individual search box.. or a better address bar

    .. and so on.

More or less. I like the way Opera 'handles' things like middle-clicking on the tab to make a new tab -- lots of small things like that.

But I like the speed from Chrome (And it does a few things better like searching on a page) and the features from IE8 (Separate processes, address bar, grouping, etc). Firefox I no longer care for aside from momentarily missing some extensions like Scrapbook which I easily live without.

I wish I had the time to just make my own perfect browser based on WebKit. Hell, maybe even use Chrome as a base and just heavily modify all those things to how I like them.

Oh, and Opera's speed dial and the way it handles closed tabs is better.

After you have performed a search on a particular site, just type the first letter(s) of the site into the address bar, until you see it in autocomplete; then hit tab to change it to a search bar for that particular site.
