Everyone's favourite nurse-murdering sim is about to make a comeback in the form of a fifth installment, Homecoming, at the end of the month, and anyone unfortunate enough to have communicated with me at all since 1999 knows that any release of any Silent Hill game is a sacred time for me
Will it be another spiritual clone of Silent Hill 2 that fanboys will bitch about even though they all say they want every game in the series to be like Silent Hill 2, thereby stunting the creative growth of the series?
I will be buying this regardless of the controls. Having only ever played Silent Hill 2, and that a long time ago, I've been waiting for something new in the series so I can finally get into it. How are the Silent Hills on Gametap? Anyone ever tried them to see if they run well?
I remember playing a demo for a game a long while back where at that point in the game, you had nothing but a heart problem. The game had such a creepy atmosphere. It was in some spaceship future setting and there were ghosts or something. Your light source was limited to the helmet-mounted light
The main mechanic you were playing with was that you were in a horrible physical state at the time and if you got too worked up, you would croak. You had the option to run from things, but it was a dangerous balance. There was this constant pulse and heart monitor thumping in the speaker
that game demo scared me more than any other game I've ever played ever. It somehow also managed to give me a feeling of claustrophobia
Bongi was telling me that he was worried this looked too much like Silent Hill: The Movie: The Game
Honestly, that doesn't really bother me. The movie's production values were superb, and their Pyramid Head design is far superior to SH2's
I just wish they'd give the god damn nurses an upgrade, this is the third time we've had the bobbleheaded ones (plus the movie, which makes four times). I thought SH3's black hair and lipstick smeared nurses were scarier, anyway

Now THERE was a good way of implementing an ominous background character ala Pyramid Head without actually being a transparent clone of Pyramid Head (ahem, The Butcher)

so is this worth the download? i tried out the demo, and liked it well enough, but $40 is a lot. i'm basically asking if its worth the money to download the whole shebang.

i hear that it is, but i'm too broke to have tried it myself

I was looking into this the other day while trying to find something horror'ish to occupy my time. Apparently it's quite good, but I'm passing on that information from a third party. I haven't tried it myself. So a cautious 'yes, it's worth it' with the caveat that I haven't tried it myself.
ahh, ok, everything sounds positive about it, but man, i feel like since its split up into chapters, i'll be playing for a few hours then be done with the thing. also, while the escorting of the young lady wasn't too bad in the demo, i usually hate having to escort people in games, and it seems to be a big part of the actual game. cmon, if i'm gonna have to carry your ass, at least be useful for something.

Tsh, so you're undermining my thread with a game you haven't played?
Posts
but i now own a 360
does this mean i can play one now?
I would play it then, maybe.
should i play the old ones first or just assume i know everything because of the movie and just play this one
just read the wikipedias for all the old games and then buy this
If you can, please play the old games, they're great
Silent Hill 4 has awful gameplay but it has one of the strongest stories in the series
The controls look like they're RE4ish
I dunno, it makes me a bit wary
But I've never properly played any of these games, nor will I properly play this one
if this is true, i'll buy it
samezies

HMMM
I wish there was a more recent hands-on but I can't find one.
Also I liked the movie. It's just so bleak & hopeless. I hope they make a sequel.

Carry on.

also, the entire curtis blackburn chapter
Even though I've never played horror games much, I know it can be such an immersive experience that would probably be so much fun to write
between that video and cloudman's av/sig i'm going to have to play through killer 7 again
either play it online here: http://www.ifiction.org/games/play.phpz?cat=&game=231&mode=html
or download the .z8 file from that link and use one of these

I'm a cleaner. Dead bodies mean nothing. To me, they're just cold, rotting flesh.
