Dang, I guess the wii just couldn't handle the awesome visuals.

Oh well, I don't mind getting it for the 360. I am kind of dubious about the widescreen stretching though, that's something that always bugs me. I usually much prefer just having the black bars and keeping the game at the same aspect ratio.

Probably not releasing it on Wii due to VC

I'll never get why people bitch about that filter. It looks better. Oh no, your game doesn't look old-school jaggies-filled! Give me a break.

No. The filter makes it look like shit. There's a difference between slightly softening graphics and pouring vaseline all over them to the point that you lose detail. The filter they're using does not work well with dithery games, which most Genesis games tended to be.

I mean seriously, look at that screenshot. Sonic's lives indicator looks like cockeye Sonic from the leaked 3D Blast beta because the filter is fucking horrible.
I know I'm probably in the minority, but I sort of like how it looks with the filter. I'm not sure I'd say it looks better than the original, or the fan HD version, but it's still an interesting look for a Sonic game. It looks like the sprites and backgrounds were drawn in pastels.

I think that a lot of the more colorful Genesis games may look quite nice in the filter. Ecco in particular seems like it would work well with it. That said, there are some games (Streets of Rage for instance) that I just don't think fit well with the style.

So in conclusion, I don't think the filter is so horrible, but I'm glad there's an option to turn it off.

I'm fine with the filter (I thought Metal Slug 3 on XBLA looked fine and it used a similar filter). I do like that there's an option to turn it off for the purists though.

Here is the word on the filtering

Sega has confirmed that the 'smoothing' filter that has been seen applied to classic games in screenshots of the upcoming Mega Drive Collection will be optional.

Speaking to RPGSite, a Sega PR representative confirmed that the filter which proved controversial with fans would be optional. "I’ve had confirmation that the filter can indeed be switched off," Martin Snelling of Sega UK told us. "And the games will display at whatever ratio your console is set at – 4:3 or 16:9. If playing in 16:9 the game will fit and not have black borders at the side." he added, confirming another feature that will please fans."

    So there you go.

Ahhh! Sonic Spinball! I have such fond/frustrating memories of that game. I think it was the hardest game I ever beat as a kid, and I can't wait to buy it for 360 along with all these other awesome games.

    Like, 30 bucks? Really? :D

Vectorman 1 & 2, Kid Chamelion, and Comix Zone alone make this a must buy. If you have never played these games before you owe it to yourself to try these immediately upon purchasing this collection. So good. Kid Chamelion is just such a good platformer it blows my mind.

I'm looking forward to this. I hope we get a release date and achievement list soon.

I'll be getting rid of my other sega collections, since this has pretty much everything on them, as well as a bunch of stuff that isn't.

The Shining Force trilogy and four Phantasy Star games make it worth it all its own.

I'm sad to see Sword of Vermillion gone (was I the only one who LIKED that game?), but I am excited to see Streets of Rage and Shining Force in there!

Why did they get rid of Sword of Vermillion though? Get rid of Alex Kidd or something and throw it back in. =)

ugh, I hated Sword of Vermillion when I first played it...but strangely I played through it a few times.

I remember the first time that merchant took all the money I had and my sword and gave me some horribly crappy item.

Of course not long after that I found out it was to forge me a super cool sword. I think my favorite parts to the game were the side view boss battles. I didn't care for much the rest though.

I am glad to see Ecco 1 & 2 in there, as well as SoR trilogy. I am hoping for some of the better master system games to be added.

    Especially Phantasy Star 2 & 4.

The third one is hit or miss when it comes to the story.

I wish they would release more than just a collection of first party titles, since I really want to play the two genesis Strider games again. :|

    :(

I imagine there's copyright conflicts with that one.

But they released a Shadowrun game for 360, not sure if that matters.

Shadowrun is by far one of my favorite Genesis games.

If it's not on this I can at least pray to the powers that be to possibly release it on XBL Marketplace :|
