I think we might want to concentrate on getting as many people to level 30-40 as fast as possible, so that we can start running through the game on Epic.

Epic is like Nightmare in Diablo 2; monsters are tougher, drops are better, and the game on the whole is just more challenging. Plus, Epic is where your character really starts to come into his own, skill-wise. With normal, you're usually busy pumping points into one or two skills, or cranking up masteries. And by Legendary, your character's mostly done, save a few points here and there.

    Epic's my favorite.

That's just me, though, and I don't want to ruin the first play through for anyone.

In the interests of promoting brevity, though, here are all of the quests that grant special rewards to your character:

    (Very Minor Spoilers)
    Act 1
    • Sparta: kill Nessus, 1 skill point
    • Tegea: Poisoned Spring, health bonus
    • Ambrossos Farmland: Chiron's Bow, 2 attribute points
    • Delphi: Bring Olive Branch to Oracle, resistance bonus

    Act 2
    • Desert Wastes: Kill scorpion monster, 2 skill points
    • Memphis/Giza: Bring Eye of Chaos & Hand of Kufu to priest, 2 attribute points
    • Thebes: Turn in Telkine's tablet, 2 skill points

    Act 3
    • Chang'an: Kill Bandari, 2 attribute points

    Act 4
    • Rhodes: Gather the three plants for the cure, health bonus, +STR
    • Stygian Marsh: Kill Feaser, +STR/DEX/INT
    • Plains of Judgement/City of Lost Souls: Dust of a Titan, 2 skill points
    • Underworld: Kill Hades' generals, +5% damage

well, I am level 21 right now, and only a little way into Act 2. I actually have never bothered with higher difficulties. Also, I have quite a lot of equipment for others to use.

The Templar's going to be a rougher start. There's no way around it: pet-heavy classes like the Druid get an easier run through the game until you've had time to stockpile equipment. After that, casters who don't focus on pets have the easiest time. Then, pure melee builds. At the bottom of the heap are the hybrids. I wouldn't bother with one until you can twink.

That's the only reason I'm running hybrids in the PA games... I have an absurd stockpile of equipment I can use to make them playable. I'm not doing anything lame, like wearing multiple Brimstones/Stormeyes at the lower levels, but I'm certainly not skimping on the armor. My spellbinder is sitting at 12 with the full Theban Armor set right now.

    EDIT:

If you're new to the game, consider this:

    Great starting classes:
    • Druid (Nature/Storm)
    • Oracle (Storm/Spirit)
    • Summoner (Nature/Earth)
    • Diviner (Dream/Spirit)
    • Ritualist (Dream/Nature)
    • Prophet (Dream/Storm)
    • Evoker (Dream/Earth)
    • Elementalist (Earth/Storm)
    • Conjurer (Earth/Spirit)
    • Soothsayer (Nature/Spirit)

The one thing each of those classes has in common is the ability to focus on pets. Pets are fantastic. Pets start off very powerful, gradually run out of steam through normal mode, and then come back very strong in Epic and Legendary.

Alternatively, you can make any of those classes a good (not great) starting class by focusing on offensive spells instead of pets.

    Okay Starting Classes
    • Assassin (Warfare/Rogue)
    • Slayer (Warfare/Hunting)
    • Conqueror (Warfare/Defense)
    • Corsair (Defense/Rogue)
    • Warden (Defense/Hunting)
    • Brigand (Hunting/Rogue)

All of these classes are more or less purists; they're equipment-dependent, but not to the point where it's cripplingly so. They are all extremely powerful in their own right, too. A spear-based Brigand, for example, will do more damage, hit-for-hit, than anything else in the game. He'll die if someone so much as shoots him a nasty glare, too, but he kills bosses like no other.

Classes You'd Be Nuts to Start With
    • Thane (Warfare/Storm)
    • Sage (Storm/Hunting)
    • Spellbreaker (Warfare/Spirit)
    • Spellbinder (Defense/Spirit)
    • Guardian (Defense/Nature)
    • Magician (Rogue/Earth)
    • Juggernaut (Defense/Earth)
    • Avenger (Hunting/Earth)
    • Champion (Warfare/Nature)
    • Battlemage (Warfare/Earth)
    • Sorcerer (Rogue/Storm)
    • Bone Charmer (Spirit/Hunting)
    • Illusionist (Spirit/Nature)

The one thing all of these classes have in common is that they're hybrids. Their stats are spread very thin, making it hard to keep all the abilities at their highest, meaning it's hard to equip the best equipment (even when you have it), and meaning that the things they do all tend to be less effective than the purists, and detrimentally so.

You'll see that I left out some hybrid type builds, though. Those are the so-called synergy bombs; Warlock (Rogue/Spirit), for instance. Ternion + Arcane Lore + Mandrake is so overpowered that your team will hate playing with you, and it ranks up there with Squall spammers (in normal mode) in terms of sheer lameness. Most of the hybrids that use Dream fall into this category, too.

I mean, everyone should play what sounds good to them. I just want to give everyone a heads-up that not all characters are created equal... or viable in later difficulty modes (without a lot of work).

Is there any effective way to get full armor sets besides just stockpiling any particuarly outstanding equipment and hoping you can make a trade with someone?

Edit: One thing I've noticed is that quest enemies tend to drop much better loot then random mobs, and there are a few places right outside towns where you can semi-abuse this by repeatedly restarting the game. Are those good places to farm for equipment?

Yeah I've never ran through as a pet class before either. Guess I'll go druid.

    http://www.titancalc.com/TitanCalc.asp?mastery=Druid&master1=4&master2=8&sa=0&m1=32-16-16-12-0-6-8-0-1-8-0-0-0-0-0-12-0-8-0-0-0-0&m2=32-0-0-0-12-0-0-0-12-0-12-8-6-0-0-0-1-0-12-8-0-0

From what I remember, there's no way to really farm equipment aside from just clearing levels.

For ACT 1, I always set my spawn at the last rebirth fountain before the minotaur and telkine, that way i can just remake a game and run the level, rinse and repeat.

Well, when you're farming, a few things to keep in mind:

First, chests can drop anything, and the quality of a chest affects the number of drops and its drop rate for higher-quality items. So for act one, Mystic Orb > Majestic > Ornate > Quality > Normal > Bone Pile.

Second, because mobs drop the items they wield, you want to fight the sort of mobs that use the items you want. If you want a bow, kill archers. If you want a staff, kill casters.

Act bosses are usually the best to farm, because they leave behind Mystic Orbs when they die.

Keep in mind, though, that each chest has a level range of items it can drop. You can't get every unique just from act bosses; there are gaps where the Mystic Orbs won't drop certain items.

Indeed, Mystic Orbs are great, which is why I always farm the act 1 boss a bit before advancing.

Yeah. Unique armor is the hardest thing to come by, but monsters do occasionally wear armor. Particularly the hero and champion monsters. Some of it really stands out, too, like the Obsidian set.
