Wherein we discuss the wonder that is TITAN QUEST (NSF56k)
I prefer the whole gothic medieval thing but fuck... this game is so well made in pretty much every regard that I am afraid Diablo III won't satisfy me when it comes out.
Hold on, this game is arguably better than Diablo II? I had assumed that since people were still playing it, that the game had to be completely awesome. I mean, this game is still fairly good, but I only purchased it because of the Steam deal.

TQ is pretty sweet, it makes me believe a D2 clone with badass physics and over the top special moves would be awesome. Hopefully D3 realises that when a Barbarian smacks a zombie the force of the blow should be visible, I'm tired of hitting things with all the impact of a wet kitten.
Anyway, so I was a TQ junky back in the day but the expansion killed my love of the game because it introduced the rubberbanding effect. I got a new pc last year and reinstalled TQ for kicks but the effect is still around. There was a lot of complaining about it on the boards when the expansion was released. My question is: does the fan patch fix it? does anything fix it?
Briar patch isn't fixed, Serial. It only has 64 hps at level 2 in epic. Dryad has 1164 at level 2 in epic. =/
Huh. I thought they fixed that, but looking at the known issues thread for 1.16, it's there. I think they're going to fix it in 1.17, but I'll see if I can't figure it out in the mean time and get the fix in my mod.
So my Assassin is level 27 or so. I'm doing dual wield, and I've got warfare maxed out. I've got 1 point in each dw technique, but I don't know which I should max first. I could also start to max dodge, it's got 1 point too. I already maxed ignore pain. I could do blade honing too, it's another 1 point one right now. Any guidance? Bosses aren't too bad, but big crowds are rough right now. And I'm going through pots like crazy.
Also, which is a better main attack when dual wielding swords, calculated strike or onslaught?
It may just be a bit beyond me right now. I'm not giving up, but I don't think I know enough about what controls what in this database files yet to fix this.
All pet scaling is controlled by a single file that dictates how much HP a pet will have based on the number of players and the difficulty. For example, with a single point in the Sylvan Nymph, she has 197 health in a normal single-player game. However, in Epic, pets get a flat +200 life bonus, and a 200% increase in their total HP on top of that. So the Nymph winds up with (197 + 200) * (1 + 2) = 1191 health. The Core Dweller, Wolves, Lich... they're all controlled by this same file. There's no direct reference between that file and the individual pet files, so this association is hard-coded.
The problem, as best as I can tell right now, is that the actual bushes that Briar Ward spawns aren't deemed a "Pet" but are instead a "DynamicBarrier," and the modding tool won't let me edit that field. And apparently dynamic barriers aren't controlled by the pet scaling algorithms.
I'll look into re-creating the ability from scratch, since it'll mostly be a copy-paste job, anyway. But I haven't done that before, so it might take a while.
EDIT: Good news!
I found a quick and easy way to scale the HP values. They won't scale based on the number of players, like other pets, but I can at least scale them by difficulty.
EDIT 2: Okay, maybe not quick, but easy. The mod tool doesn't let you import more than one file at a time, and I have to import 40 of them. And then add three fields and do three simple calculations for each. Easy, yes, but tedious. This'll take a bit :P
EDIT 3: Also, after Morkath and I were playing last night, I decided to take the monster HP/difficulty scaling out of my mod and return it to normal. No potion changes, no anything changes except making bad skills better. I promise. I don't want to be in the business of nerfing people, and my goal is to have the mod be appealing enough that everyone here at PA adopts it for their games.

So,i'm jumping onto this now.
gamename will be "PA wangsquad" and the password: "wang".
I'm stuck bed. At my mother's house. I want to play bad, except:
A) I don't have Immortal Throne I can't really get out of bed
C) I can't even really play in bed
D) My TQ disks are at home
Mucho impresso with the shit you got together, s3rial. Best TQ thread evah.
Thanks, Dev. Hope you feel better soon.
Bug!: Energy shield seems to provide damage absorption against all damage now that it adds resistance as well. According to the help text anyway. I'll toss a point in it and see what it does.

It's supposed to. That's how Heat Shield works. Reduces all damage sources by 15%, but it only absorbs lightning/ice.

Yeah, according to the help text it's absorbing all damage, fire, lightning, ice, physical. Doesn't have the disclaimer it used to that it only affects lightning/ice.
Heh nevermind, it's a bug, but it's in TQ not your mod. As soon as I added a skillpoint it adds the disclaimer. :P

It's definitely an improvement over the D2 kill animations, but it's still "kid safe". I admit I love it when bodies go flying, but there is zero gore. No blood, no severed limbs, no burning flesh, no expoding gibs, etc. We need all of this and more. I think the Blizz devs talked about this in one of the preview videos for D3, so I'm hopeful it will be much more visceral this time around instead of feeling like a fancy whack-a-monster.
TQ has its share of UI issues as well. I find myself getting frustrated often when I click and nothing happens. There seem to be pathing AI issues as well as clicks that simply just don't register. At least with D2 I could expect every click to do something even if it was just to whiff at empty air. It may just be me, but I can't get the graphics to be "smooth". Whenever the camera is panning the screen jitters instead of a smooth scroll. I've turned down the settings all the way and it still does it. Don't know if it's my older video card (nvidia 7600) or if it's just weak graphics programming. As pretty as TQ is, it still bothers my eyes. If I'm trying to focus on a detail I usually stand still because the jitter is so awful.

This isn't universally true for Diablo 2. I've had more than my fair share of non-registered clicking in Diablo 2, and it's about the same in Titan Quest. Sometimes, zones have a bit of lag due to hard drive access in Diablo 2, and this gives a weird "push-me/pull-you" effect on the framerate. Honestly, I think it's highly hardware dependent.

It's probably a video card issue. It runs differently on my computer compared to my sig other's computer, and I do know what you are talking about. Also, hard drive access kills framerate, and every indoor/outdoor transition has this problem (as well as some area transitions). It's smooth "enough" for me to ignore it, though, but it's certainly no Unreal Tournament.
I don't really see the BIG deal about the Telkines.
heh collossus form is awesome, just for looks, let alone stats, too bad it lasts less than 30 seconds, and has an enourmous recharge. I'd love to run around as a giant all the time. :P

I hate not having time to play my games anymore. Have this game since 2 years with the expension and I am yet to play it (got the game and expension as gifts from my friend). lack of time is killing me here...
One of the things that should be noted somewhere in the thread is that Titan Quest has a LOT of content. For the past couple of years, my friends and I have this annual tradition of beating Diablo II in one sitting from the Rogue Encampment to Baal, and it only takes around 6 to 10 hours (obviously, we don't do this on Hell difficulty).
I'm not sure how long Titan Quest measures against this, but there's no way that I'd be able to beat any individual Act (except for possibly Act 1) in that amount of time without unusual rushing tactics. It's just that long of a game. Especially Act 3 and Act 4. You'll play this for a LONG time. And love it.
The length may be a detriment in some sections. I get very tired of beating up Satyrs halfway through Act 1. But still... definitely not a short game.

Morkath and I were just talking about this last night. When you're just trying to rush, the game can feel overly-long. When you have a character you enjoy, though, it's fantastic. Lots of side areas to explore, questing to do, and some truly fantastic environments. The transition into Tartarus is my favorite in the game.
I'd hazard a guess that a full run through on normal mode, start to finish, would take 20-25 hours.
Personally, I think that Act 1 is the worst offender for being too long, and it's the shortest act. I just doesn't do it for me difficulty-wise. It's too easy in every mode.
I think ACT III suffers from the longest act. Goodness. but then again, I also hate deserts, so Act II felt worse. I have yet to actually beat Act IV, but I'm right at the beginning of it.

So I get this BSOD when I attempt to play immortal throne(just installed it). I have updated my video drivers to the most recent(8.12). I also do not believe it is related to overheating as my video card's fan works fine and I blow a fan into the case when playing games because it does get hot. It will get to about 80-85 during a game with the fan running which doesn't seem to be a problem. I have an x1950 pro. I do not get this problem in any other game I have tried.
Should I try disabling those BIOS options like it says? Any other ideas?

Updated the OP again: released my mod, and the OP has the download link, which includes installation instructions.
Beyond skills, I've changed potions to stack in groups of 100 (instead of 5), and allowed the camera to zoom out farther.
Please do me a favor and try it out. Let me know what you think. I'd like for this to be the new default patch/mod we run around here.
