Wrestlemania 2. He played America The Beautiful to kick off the show. It was the first time for that.

Aretha Franklin did it at 3.

    Gladys Knight at 4.

Fucking Rockin Robin, the female wrestler, did it at 5. She wasn't terrible, but it's like, going from these three in fucking Rockin Robin was a bit o_O

Robert Goulet did O Canada at 6.

    Willie Nelson at 7.

Reba McEntire did The Star Spangled Banner at 8, which was retarded because 7 was the one where Hogan faced Slaughter with all the USA pride stuff during the war.

    They skipped it for 9.

    Little Richard at 10.

Kathy Huey for 11. She was a Special Olympian or something.

    Skipped it for 12, 13.

Chris Warren did it at 14, but not on air.

Boyz II Men did it at 15.

Lillian stupid ass Garcia for 16.

Skipped it for 17, 18 (though Saliva played Superstar).

    Ashanti played it at 19.

Boys Choir of Harlem for 20. There was a rumor floating around at the time that Vince wanted Ray Charles to come back and do it again but at that point, Ray wasn't doing too well and couldn't do it.

Lillian stupid ass Garcia again for 21.

    Michelle Williams for 22. Who?

Aretha Franklin made her return at 23.

And last year it was John Legend.

Then it could have been just the overseas broadcast. It's on the tape I got from a friend in England. The last minute or so is just him going "America, America, America, America" at varying degrees of insanity.

So I'm listening to Kurt on O&A, talking about switching from the WWE to TNA and his painkiller addiction and his steroid allegations. The most interesting part so far is that after he left the WWE, he had contact with one other wrestler and even that person dropped off after a little while, but lucky for him they wound up in TNA too.

So who was that person? Was it Booker T or Foley?

    No.

It was fucking Daivari / Shiek Abdul Bashir. I'm amazed that of all the people in the company, he's the one that kept in contact with Kurt.

This does bring up something I've been wondering though. Why did they change Daivari's name to Shiek Abdul Bashir when he came to TNA? I mean, his real last name is Daivari and it obviously works. Also, at least for me WWE is definitely better at making a middle east heel then TNA is.

I would assume it's because they can't copyright his real name. At least, that's WWE's reasoning for making guys use a stage name instead of their real name.

I would imagine that it would hurt a wrestler's following when companies do this. I know that when Chris Harris went to ECW from TNA they decided to call him Haden Walker or something, he had two matches and seemed to get no reaction at all. While part of it is that none of the fans new of this guy, and he got no build up and no storyline whatsoever, but I wonder if it would have helped in anyway to atleast keep his real name (Pretty sure it is Chris Harris) instead of changing it to help him out from people who liked him in TNA.

McMahon likes to pretend that WWE ticket buyers and fans only ever watch(ed) WWE, and that anyone from another promotion is an unknown.

See also: WCW guys. But when DDP showed up, everyone was doing the diamond cutter hand gesture. "Make me famous"? DDP was already well known.

And then they brought in the ECW faction that was composed mostly of WWE guys, and THEN they decided it was an awesome idea to have each group headed by a McMahon. I'll even go so far as to give you Shane running WCW to challenge his father, but Stephanie heading ECW? If she even walked into an ECW arena, there would be so many derogatory chants directed at her she'd immediately turn tail and run.

A real invasion storyline between two promotions would actually be awesome, if each one decided to ocassiaonly let the other get the upper hand. Obviously neither would really win in the end as I doubt any promotion would let that happen, but simply really pushing the competition to get people into both groups would be good for business I would think as it would really push each one to be the best it could be.

I didn't watch but the way my cousin explained Necro Butcher coming into RoH was like that. I can't remember the promotion he was with before but he and some others would show up at shows and wreak havoc, building and building to a match.

of course, it was on a small scale and at least necro eventually went over pretty completely but it seemed pretty cool to me.

I'll never forget the strange feeling I had the first time I saw ECW invade Raw. Also, when they said the name 'Sabu' I thought they said 'shampoo.' I thought, what a stupid name. Then I saw him do a moonsault off the stage set-up and didn't care. Good times.

Yeah, after that CZW vs. ROH feud, Necro went away again. Eventually, in 2007, he came back alongside Jimmy Jacobs and Tyler Black, to form the Age of the Fall, sort of a goth/misfits heel group. Necro turned face last year and broke off on his own.

Man, if I had to book WWF vs WCW vs ECW, I would have done it totally different. ECW would remain the split group, just wreaking havoc against the other two. Rock vs. Booker T and OH MY GOD, IT"S SANDMAN who just wrecks the whole match by beating the crap out of both of them. Undertaker vs DDP and IT'S SABU WITH A CHAIR! Just using ECW to completely disrupt both companies, eventually leading to WCW and WWF joining forces to stop ECW from ruining their shows night in and night out which ends up splintering ECW so that some guys side with WCW and some with the WWF then the big pay off match to determine who wins.

That was a problem. Vince couldn't get Goldberg, Flair and Sting under contract, three major WCW mainstays. He was able to get Booker T and DDP, but not those three. On top of that, he couldn't get Hogan, Nash and Hall.

But the main problem still was that Vince didn't want to put any WCW guys over his WWF guys. So what happened was the WCW thing lost all it's heat and they had to have Austin heel turn (worst heel turn ever, by the way) by joining WCW/ECW.

Also WCW had at that point been run completely into the ground. Sting wasn't wrestling, Flair wasn't wrestling, Hall was drunk, Nash had been "retired" by Scott Steiner, Goldberg had been likewise by Lex Luger and Buff Bagwell, Hogan was out of the company after the "shoot" by Vince Russo, their top tier people was basically Jeff Jarrett, both Steiner brothers, DDP, Booker T. and Sid Vicious up until his injury. Oh, yeah and Road Warrior Animal as a singles wrestler.

It wasn't the kinda-awesome WCW of the 90's.

Also, Buff Bagwell helped kill the invasion angle by his sheer suckiness.

You can have a Top Banana. Big Banana. Plaintain. Head Cheese. Big Cheese. Japanese due named Head Honcho. Black guy named HMFIC. Big Boss. End Boss. It'd be like Doink, but without the creepy John Wayne Gacy schtick.

Heh, you got the audience to thank for that, as apparently Buff got a big enough reaction when Vince was going through people's name to be hired.

And what sucks about the Invasion is that every big one except Sting ended up with the company anyways.

I think Necro Butcher fights alot in JCW. The Insane Clown Posse's federation. If you search for Slam TV on youtube you might find a bunch of his matches there.

And just got around to watching my RAW and ECW recordings for this week. I wish they would stop calling Jeff and Matt's match as an Extreme match. Lets just call it what it is. A Hardcore match thats been watered down. If I hear Cole and King say Extreme one more time I'll beat them both to death with a Mountain Dew can.

And what the fuck WWE. The last match of the show is supposed to be the best of the night and yet they keep wasting them over and over with stupid skits or "story" fights. Ugh. The ECW 'main event' if you can even call it that was just sad. Kane looked so bored in the background I thought he was going to fall asleep while MVP and every one whipped it out trying to figure out whose was bigger.
