Man, I can't wait until I get to move into a place using real people money. I'll have a lady living with me, so the decor won't be as unrelentingly awesome, but still. Separate rooms for eating, sleeping, and working. A bathroom that doesn't look like it was torn out of an RV. A fucking dishwasher.

It is so good to have a dishwasher.

That and an in-unit washer and drier were requirements for us. Our apartment is soooooo muuuuuuch cleeeeeaner than our old place ever was.

Doing dishes is annoying when we both work 40+ hours a week and Ben has a long commute and I've got football practice 2 nights a week and games every Saturday. Having a dishwasher is fucking nice. As is having a washer/dryer right in our apartment.

Usually it's not. But when everybody's busy it's pretty vexing to have this whole chore when you know the technology exists to get it done with maybe thirty seconds of input on your part.

Where do you people get all these posters of cool shit? Like, the Casablanca one or the one about Canadians being busy with a beaver on it. I love that style but haven't been able to find much.

    378VintageSerenityPoster.gif

I want that but I can't find it bigger. I emailed the guy and he said the PSDs were already small like that, basically.

Also, what's the deal with everyone having Nighthawks? Is that the new "lesbians kissing" poster? Some of you guys are already out of college!

    Because Nighthawks is awesome.

Also three minutes on google led me to this hi res of your serenity poster

    http://www.jsoule-webdesign.com/posters/PosterSpecial.jpg

it looks great scale down but pretty terrible full-res because of the sources used. shame, it could have been awesome. i think it's intended to be postcard sized.

Well, I bought my Casablanca poster from a weird little shop in Oxford, so that's probably not much help. Buying them from non-chain music and movie stores is probably the best bargain you're going to find, if you don't mind searching around a bit.

And it's not Nighthawks, it's Boulevard of Broken Dreams. My sister bought it for me to go with the Casablanca poster.

My room at my dad's is some robins-egg-blue color I picked out in like seventh grade. I think it's actually called "pool party" and it's just on the verge of too blue.

Also if I can find a working camera, I'll try to get some pictures of decent wallpaper in here.

I really like those expendit book cases like the one Mori bought.

I was going to pinch the dimensions and just build one myself out of pine so it would be more solid, but when I realised how cheap it was I figured it wasn't worth the hassle.

so i spent all last night getting everything all set up in my new entertainment unit
    1.jpg

    2.jpg

it looks pretty good but i think eventually we're gonna mount the tv and put shelving either side (above the speakers) and/or in a long line across the top of the unit

also we have some other neat furniture in here, like the sideboard/bar and bookcase
    4.jpg

i also have to think of something a bit more in theme to do with all my music and movies and other books and things
    5.jpg

considering we only moved in a few months ago we're doing pretty damn well so far. i like furniture

Our house has very similarly-styled furniture, though it is actually new, just made to look aged. We have a dining table/chairs, two corner book case/cabinets and one of those sideboard things, but bigger.

I like the whitewashed antique timber look.

    edit: and a coffee table.

they have been sitting in my courtyard and have been used as chairs for a number of months so they have a natural weathered look to them

I'm not really sure of your setup.

Is your funiture birch and you want something that matches or are you looking at birch furniture and thinking of painting to match?

Are you after bold colours or more subdued tones?

Birch is bright and earthy, which means other earthy tones would suit. White or pale green for complimentary, dark browns or greens for contrast.

Try some colour comparison websites to build a palette.

I'm buying furniture to match the bed. The bed frame was a gift and it was worth a couple thousand dollars so I'm not going to get rid of it.

It looks nice up against my feature wall which I painted a really dark red, so I like the idea of doing the other three walls green.

I don't know if the walls being different bold colours will really work. Is there any particular reason why all the walls can't be the same red?

If the red is a feature wall then you probably want the other walls to be white or something equally innocuous or it kind of ruins the idea of the feature wall.

I'm kind of the opinion that you should have one really strong source of colour in the room and the rest is more subdued. My walls are dark green for instance, so all my furniture, and eventually all of the wall hangings will be black and white.

I'm beginning to like the idea of a solid red on white scheme, assuming I get all my new furniture.

I think the reason I wasn't sold on it before was because the stuff I have now is a technicolour nightmare.

I dig hanging art by friends around my place.

I have a sculpture thing on my bookshelf and a 6"x6" painting by one good friend, a great piece from a friend in england and another pretty great piece that I got as a going away gift when I last moved.

My girl has also done a charcoal piece with two otters.

Also, the Cardboard Tube Samurai cell from Gabe (who isn't really a friend).

My bedroom walls are a hideous yellow colour that isn't even painted right on one wall. Any ideas what colur would go with my dark mahogany bookshelves and chest of drawers? I was thinking of some sort of light blue or cream, since it's a bedroom. I have darkish blue curtains and a darkish blue carpet.
