Believe me, I want there to be space and pilotable starships (and smuggling!), but just because there's a class named "smugglers" doesn't mean any of that will be in at launch.

Nor does the existence of smugglers indicate that there is player crafting, player bounties, or any of the other fuckwit ideas the people on the TOR smuggler boards seem to think it proves.

Well, just think, the games set for release 2010, they got at least a year to work on things. So Theres a good chance a lot of awesome things will be implemented, such as space flight :D

Believe me, i'd love to crack out my old joystick.

I think it is safer for you if you just realize that this isn't going to happen.

I never said it was, but rather, I'd love it if it did.

Seems misleading to promote that early game storyline and trailer about a smuggler fleet breaking a space blockade if there are no ships.

Anyways. It's been complimented plenty already but again that's one of the best cinematic trailers I've ever seen for an online project. Put that team to work on TV commercials.

Awesome! Thank you for doing that. Anyways dialog choices changing story? Epic content not focused on beating on one big dude? Light and Dark choice points in an MMORPG? Multiplayer Dialog!?! DUAL WIELDING LIGHTSABERS!?!?! (the only real option imo :P) I swear Bioware is making the perfect MMORPG for me.

I'm a simple man with simple tastes. Single sabers have always been classier to me.

Nothing against dual sabers or double-bladed ones, though. Anything more exotic than that can DIAF.

Amusingly, the off-topic forums for TOR have been temporarily shut down due to being a complete cesspit, and will reopen once their newly-hired moderation staff is able to actually cover the fucking thing.

The trailer felt very Star Wars, while at the same time providing us with HOLY SHIT A SHIP GOES RIGHT INTO THE JEDI TEMPLE. If anything, we have a taste of the tone Bioware is taking this.

He wasn't a Sith either, he was a fallen Jedi. Palpaltine was the closest thing to a Sith left in the galaxy at that point, but even he was just some dude who copied a cultist's teachings from several thousand years ago.

I'm actually kind of turned off by the level of tech. It's supposed to be several thousand years before the trilogy, it would be nice if they took a hint from the comics supposedly from that era.

EDIT when you see someone failing two sabers away, it looks too much like someone spazzing out at a rave. I'll take classic swordplay with a high tech twist, thanks.

As for the lightsaber talk, I'm pretty sure we've had plenty of examples of a single blade proving to be just as badass as two or a double-bladed saber. Obi-Wan proved this.

Honestly, I'm over worrying about levels of tech. At this point, it's fairly obvious that the "x-thousand years ago" stuff is pretty much just a way of being able to tell Star Wars stories that don't step too much on the toes of more established canon. It's a level of suspension of disbelief I've grown to accept over time.

EDIT in response to the saber stuff, obviously

Someone posted something in the G+T forum earlier that perfectly sums up my opinions on the matter. The Prequel trilogy was so over-choreographed that it looked like people were slapping sabers together for the purpose of slapping sabers together (exception: Darth Maul fight). This cinematic showed two people clearly trying to kill each other.

EDIT2 I guess you're right with the setting.

If you compare tech between KotoR and "modern" SW, I think it's pretty obvious tech in the SW universe is basically stagnant other than a few superficial things and the occasional death star. The only thing that kind of throws me off is that the OR Troopers are visually based on the Clone Troopers, which are themselves based on the Mandalorians from the OR era.

I would imagine that it takes a LOT more concentration not to accidentally kill yourself with two lightsabers.

As far as trying to kill people with a lightsaber, mere contact with the blade is lethal. The only time putting actual effort behind a swing matters in the slightest is when fighting someone else using a lightsaber. If the other person can't block like that, all you have to do is tap them with it.

In most cases, the wide swings and crazy gymnastics that you see them doing would be effective if for no other reason than to make sure your opponent thinks very carefully before coming anywhere near you.

If I were a Jedi with a lightsaber I would fight like that. If I were a Jedi or anyone else with a sword, I would not. The weapon dictates the tactics.

Anyways about having ships and space combat... Well obviously everyone wants to have it; I'd bet Bioware would like to have it in too. But at launch? Not a chance I think. Best we'll probably get is something like speeder bike mounts (which is still pretty damn cool...). However there probably is a decent chance of a space combat expansion, sorta like what SWG did (I think? I only did the trial that game a few times but I think I heard something like that). Maybe they'll have big transport ships that multiple people get into that travel between planets; basically like the Zeppelins in WoW.

That and the fact that space combat would require an almost completely different game engine to be done correctly. If it's Not Xwing Vs Tie-fighter then it's not worth it in my opinion.

Yeah I feel the same way. Get the combat, story, PvP, and all that basic stuff done first before they start working on cool extras like that. If at all. If it doesn't have it, I'd honestly would be fine. If they added it some day great. And yeah Bendery; it'd have to be something worthwhile like Tie Fighter Rogue Squadron. Something like the swoop bike minigames from KOTOR wouldn't cut it.

Now maybe having a system with which to purchase a ship as a hangout/base for a guild (or w/e they decide to call it) could work. Just instead of having some boring building instanced on some planet you could meet up instead in something like an Ebon Hawk (or something bigger later on). Just some instanced thing that can be accessed by all guildies at each planets space port. /shrug At least I think that could at least be something cool and easy to implement.

It's interesting how Blizzard (and now apparently Bioware) release such visually-gorgeous cinematics, but actually use a more PC-friendly, stylized style of in-game graphics than the other MMO companies seem too. I hope this turns out to be a best of both worlds situation!

Hutta (home planet of the Hutts, which has previously never appeared in a computer or video game before).

Lies. Don't you go to Nal Hutta in one of the JK games?
(some dialogue choices will have serious consequences that will not only change the game's story, but will also change the outcome of your character's adventure and may award you light side points or dark side points, as in KOTOR),
changed the course of the game

This game is sounding less and less like an MMO and more and more like an co-op RPG.
