In the room with all 6 magic crests if you go to you right you'll see a place to grab on with your whip if you get close enough to the edge. Go up there and follow all the balance beams around.
Man this game just continues to impress me with every level. It is so great. Just finished the tesla puzzle in Chapter 7. Such a rewarding experience to have finished it on my own. The boss of that area was fun too.
Awww I was hoping to get a trophy from the chess puzzle. Oh well, at least I got some souls. The trial involving that board sounds horrible though. It would be completely up to luck at the very end because she'd be getting 3 turns to your 1. You'd just have to hope she keeps getting pieces no longer in play.
Yeah I noticed that as well so I used it to my advantage. I guess if you could keep up one or two zombies and then she gets unlucky and rolls dead pieces it would be pretty easy.
Ahhhhggg. I accidentally beat a level before I was ready to.
Chapter 7 spoilers (and a warning)
In the Chromatic Observatory, I was working my way through the rooms. I was basically just being fairly methodical in how I was solving the puzzle. I did red first since it was at the top. Then I did Yellow (?) next. It was the second one down. Then, I did the third one down, which was blue. It opened the white door. I went through the platforming and I got to a door which needed a key, so I just assumed that white was the "correct path" and I needed to solve the other rooms to get the key, so I went purple next.
Unfortunately, purple leads to the boss. So heed this as a warning. Save purple for last, because there's no going back (unless you re-enter the stage from the start.

That happened to me. However, on my second run, I found out that area is one of the few where you can just blaze through almost without killing anything, so doing it again to get all the upgrades doesn't take as long as some of the other levels.
The most important thing to remember is that no matter what else they can do, your opponent will always focus on zombies before anything else, ever.
Every chance you can get summon a zombie near-ish to their units and they will waste every turn they have to chasing it until its dead.
Not always. I was doing the trial for this one and I had her down to 1 Necromancer which I had 2 summoned zombies, one on each side of her and my vampire and my werewolf in front of her diagonally. What does she do? Gets two necromancer turns in a row and two-shots my vampire causing me to lose my 4th piece and fail the trial.
Dayum. Kotaku GETS IT. This needs to go in the next thread. Though I fear they tell people "If you're an IGA person, leave now, if your old school, grab this immediately."
I hated the old games (they don't make em liked they used to for a reason) and this is a must have for me. What good is 8 direction whipping when the skeleton throws a bone at me and it misses me, but not really because of hitbox dissonance?
The series was getting a little too bishonen for it's own good. I am fine if they go this way for 3D and IGA for 2D, which seems like what is happening.
Derivative, derivative, derivative. That review bothers me. What a boring future videogames would have if for a game to be 'good' you weren't allowed to use anything that someone else had used before.
Nope, sorry Gabriel you can't scale that castle. Someone has already climbed up something before.
Nope, can't kill that Titan. Someone killed a big thing once.
A little light platforming? What are you a plumber? LOL. You can't jump.
And the one that pisses me off of the most is the God of War comparisons. I mean, did everyone forget about all of the other action adventure games that came before God of War when it released? I honestly just don't understand the God of War comparisons The weapon? A whip? Belmonts use whips, what were they supposed to do? The combat not being about long combos and juggles and cancels?

When you kill monsters from a third person fixed-camera position while epic, orchestral music plays,it is a God of War clone.
I really don't like the constant climbing you have to do. It's just there to artificially lengthen the game, and this game doesn't need it. It's not like the climbing is ever challenging - you always know where you have to go, and it's impossible to fail or miss 90% of the time. It feels like busy work. And it's so blatantly game-y with the obvious ledges and grapples in the middle of nowhere that it actually detracts from the atmosphere.
Boss fights are really what make this game great for me.

That's more for the scenery porn. In the castle, I couldn't get enough of it.

I really expected to beat this, this weekend. Being Canadian Thanksgiving, I had three days off... but of course I get sick Thursday night which turns into a full blown illness before the end of the work day on friday.
I just didn't have the energy to pick up a controller until Monday night. Blaahhh... Oh well, I completed a few chapters and put it down for the night just as I reached the vampire castle. Tonight should be epic epicness.

You don't even know. I played the Castle Hall level like 4 times before continuing on.
Just finished watching the 2nd part of Game Trailers' retrospective. I pretty much want to play every game in this series now. Its unfortunate that a few aren't available, and a few others are available on systems I don't want to play them on.
As we discussed a few pages back, the older Nintendo games are on Wii virtual console, but I loath the Wii. I have one, but it isn't even hooked up. If, however, they were to allow me to put those games on my DSi, I would be all over that.
FYI you can download the untranslated version of Rondo of Blood on the Wii to experience the greatness, if you don't have a PSP with Dracula X Chronicles.
Lucascraft, I downloaded Castlevania I, III, and the import Rondo of Blood on my Wii and I have to say that I and III look absolutely amazing compared to trying to get them to work on my NES.
Frankenstiens Monster is easy, it's that invincible flea man that's a bitch. I had to make it through that level without dying once to keep the Holy Water from the beginning and then kill the bone dragons with it to get the Triple upgrade. Then you spam the hell out of it on the Creature and pray.
Death is also awful. Especially when you manage to kill him but die trying to collect the orb from one of his leftover scythes flying around.

Got it. Most annoying gem to get thus far.

I'm doing maybe a level a day and then stopping because I just can't get into it deeply
Still haven't beaten chapter two even

Shows a few monsters that got cut, along with a much worse sounding soundtrack.

Can I have a moment of silence for the absense of Sexy Witch costumes?

Heh. That makes Bayonetta a God of War clone.
Only if a J-pop Fly Me To The Moon is orchestra :P
The opening sequence on the other hand...

I can turn the camera in Bayonetta.
Oh that's right you can. I had forgotten. I must have never bothered to.
if it weren't so gorgeous I would be a lot more bothered than I am
that goddamn castle was great
the dead lands is up and down though. It's a really excellent wasteland, but it's not as awe inspiring and magnificent as the castle.

I'm loving this new one though. It's a journey, the whole thing feels like a colossal epic quest to get there.
I'm gonna have to grab games I haven't played on VC now. I haven't played II since I was little, and I only played the original recently.
We're gonna need a new thread soon.

Atlantis is the best.
Wasn't it remixed recently in one of IGA's games?

It's a remake of Castlevania: The Adventure by the people that did Contra and Gradius ReBirth.
That shit happened to me in HoD. :x
