If he was a pedophile, having a fucked up childhood doesn't excuse his behavior; he's still a human being and still must be held responsible for his actions (legally and socially). So no, he doesn't get a free pass, even posthumously, if that is the case.

Of course, that's a big "if". Regardless, the man sure could sing, and dance, and I'll always appreciate his work wherever he might have stood as a person.

Those CPR stats though would presumably result in people dying, and if his father is saying anything post his arrival in hospital surely that implies that he's no dead yet.

No, it just means that they're still doing CPR. Most CPR cases, even after the ambulance arrives, last about 30 minutes. And if it's Jackson? They'll do it for two hours if there's the slightest sign of life.

But TMZ has already confirmed his death, so I'm not holding my breath.

To be honest, I think he would've been better off if he'd died in, like, '88 or something. I'm not saying he was a pedophile, but he was definitely creepy and disturbing from the 90s on. When people think of Michael Jackson, they'll think of the weird plastic white-black dude who had sleepovers with kids first, and his great music just second.

perhaps i am one of the only people in this thread who can actually take pity on a person who has had a pretty shitty life and dealt with it really poorly.

if he did what was accused, which is a big and highly dubious if, of course he should be held accountable for it

but wishing malice and suffering on a person like that just sorta speaks poorly of someone

Nobody's excusing the alleged behavior, for god's sake. Why can't somebody say something that illustrates how multi-dimensional his behavior appeared to be without being accused of excusing him? Shit ain't black and white, people. We can learn from people like MJ, not just level insults and accusations and call him a monster or a predator. There's more to it than that, and if nothing else, MJ's actions were never coupled with violent abuse as far as I know.

Let's look at what we do know about how that went down.

1> Father demanded 20 million bucks from him or they'll file charges. That's pretty much extortion right there.

2> Father is on tape saying that if he "doesn't get what he wants" then there will be a massacre.

3> About two dozen other people vouched that Jackson was a pedophile... but would only tell their story if you stuck 100,000$ in their pockets.
Will you celebrate the career of OJ Simpson when he passes as well?

But we know for a fact that OJ was a murderer.

He got off because the jurors were a bunch of dumb hicks and the prosecutor was an incompetent buffoon.

Annnd we're going to be riding a train of bigotry for a week or so now.

The guy made some fantastic music. Had a pretty fucked up life though. Huge contribution to pop music can't be discredited for something he may or may not have done. Not because of the ambiguity but just because of the magnitude of his discography.
