when a dude can program not just an anatomically "functional" 3D model of a child, but one that is animated to simulate sex acts, i mean, jeez that's walking right up to the line isn't it?
i hate the idea of illegalizing fictional content. that runs so close to thought-crime it makes me wince. but i mean, jesus fucking christ.
my opposition to criminalizing fictional acts or creations has to do with protecting people and their creativity.
this stuff starts to walk into territory where i don't think it protects anyone to allow it to exist.
but i mean, that's the arguement Jack Thomspon uses, so I don't know.
speaking of which, why isn't Ragin' Jack having a god damn fit over this shit?
I mean, he flipped out about the genital-less nude children in The Sims.
people actually create zones in this game exclusively dedicated to child rape.
this sounds like the kind of thing that would be his fuckin' exhibit A.

Maybe ol' Jack is one of the people creating those zones.

Okay I tired to make a penis in this and ended up with a gigantic dome
this is retarded
You can't even penis. What kind of man are you?
Since when was Penis a verb?
Well, the Penis is what gives a Forumer his power. It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together.

So yes, it is a verb.
Thats a noun.=, and a proper one at that.
You can't hide your extraneous symbols from me. Also, verb. As in, Jacques was walking down the street, when suddenly he was penis'd from behind.
it's all tentacle rape stations and self-important virtual real estate moguls
I see where you're going with this idea, and I agree with you. This would be wonderful for everything from RPG's to virtual classes. However, the pervs and the opportunists have to get their hands on it and turn it into something depraved.
As far as the Jack Thompson thing goes, I think there are two reasons why this isn't in the forefront of his argument.
ONE: He probably knows little about it.
TWO: No one can walk into a Wal-Mart and buy it.
It's all about availablity on the open market. Thompson isn't a crusader, he's a greedy media whore. He wants to be able to stand out in front of his local Target or Wal-Mart or whatever and shake a box in the air at the cameras and say, "THIS is what our children can just walk in there and BUY!"
The media swarms. He gets a boner. Mission complete.
I am actually building a product that is beginning to take market share away from Second Life in the business arena. Second Life has a lot of cool shit, but it's got these glaring problems as well. Frankly, I'm surprised that people don't regularly construct million-poly monstrosities covered in hi-res, badly-compressed textures just to fuck up other users. And I'm extremely surprised that obscene avatars aren't running around for shock value everywhere, like in Snow Crash.
It must be. But that's expensive as shit, isn't it? I mean, those are basically GMs who have to get paid. I guess if they have a good way to shut down your account and a really good tracking system to catch assholes, then it could work. But it still does not sound cheap to operate.

Wait, hold on, walking right up to what line? You are exactly right that it is the same argument that JT uses. Allowing violent video games to exist doesn't "protect" anyone either. The only benefit is that it allows people to do a thing that they want to do (kill animated people). By your own admission, virtual sexual deviancy is a thing that people obviously want to do. How is this any different?
