dangit I've wanted to watch DS9 all the way through for some time but I am far too poor to purchase all of it and even if it was on hulu or something I live in the great frozen north
The fleet battles always make ships look fragile. They take one or two hits and then they're broken in half. It seemed like whenever the Enterprise was being attacked, the shields could at least hold for 4-5 hits first.
Yeah I didn't like that. In bab5 it made sense because there were no energy shields. You shoot the hull, you shoot the hull.
I always figured that because the main cast was so awesome they where able to better use resources, while lesser unimportant crews where not and exploded more readily.
I'm not sure why Weaver insists on posting those videos though because if his intention is to get people to watch the show he's spoiling massive parts of the story for them.

it's kinda cool though when you think about how sci-fi space battles are always based off of traditional naval warfare. ships back in the day took tons of hits and kept going pretty much as long as ammunition stores didn't detonate.
but when it comes to space battles, it would really be nothing like naval warfare
so making the ships kinda fragile distances the show from more traditional space sci-fi
i dunno, this is kinda a tangent, i'm procrastinating on a paper and don't watch star trek.

"I think I should warn you starfleet combat training is among the best in the galaxy"
"you mean the part where they teach you how to break your thumbs?"
Yeah I have no idea why they all use that move. Not only does it look horrible for TV fighting, it's not like that would do anything in a fight anyway.

I remember when Trek finally started realizing that there was a vertical aspect to space battles.
That's unbelievably cool. Your new name is cool guy. Let's have sex.

Also, Weaver, you should check out Legend of the Galactic Heroes. It's an anime that is completely focussed on fleet battles of ships numbering in the tens of thousands. It's about 20 years old, so it's a bit raw and dated, but it's set in the far future of humanity and features an overly bureaucratic republic battling an autocratic empire based on Prussia, fighting battles set to Wagner and stuff.
So basically, I think someone wrote it with you in mind.
EDIT: I should probably mention A) it's huge, it's occasionally slow and political, and C) there's no official English version.
That episode of TNG where they accidentally open up a rift into other quantum realities and Worf is married to Troi and there are like 2,000 different enterprises

That episode was pretty awesome
Except it set up the terrible, terrible short-lived Worf/Troi relationship.

The greatest thing about that scene, is that he was faking it.

I watch star trek for the hand to hand combat
If you value your lives, be somewhere else.

and then DS9 would start to do it later
But then again, they may be fire retardant
These are sentiments I agree with.

Then suddenly....Fraiser!
picard is best captain #1
it's basically "Han Solo meets the Enterprise"
but it was good, also I like Data's George Burns impression
timeless
'why captain! not even Xolo had such thoughts about me!' *beams out*
troi: 'that was a joke, captain.'
'i am not amused.'
definitely. they're all among my favourites. and i love when Stewart gets into Bogart mode.

I like that episode.
The one where they capture that super soldier escaping from the penal colony is pretty good too, except the parts with Troi.
