He's vapid. Looks first, personality second. So he'll date a woman who's super hot, really nice, and then he'll realize that they don't really want a real relationship, or they'll dump him before he can find out.
I've seen plenty of cases where he's turned down very nice and mature girls because of some stupid aspect. One girl was pretty cute, was just his type, but had crooked teeth and he just couldn't get over it. Real face palm moment. So she gets married and has a kid and for the next 5 years he kicks himself for it.
But then he'll date another nice and mature girl and he won't make any moves fast enough to escalate the relationship, so they'll move on without him.
Sounds pathetic? I've known the guy for a decade. Didn't exactly have the best environment to grow up in.
His sister, on the other hand, is a real basket case.

generally gi jiu-jitsu is soft. you'll be bruised and sore if you're out of shape, but if you're a reasonably fit person, you probably won't have any huge welts in the first few months of study
no-gi jiu jitsu aimed at self defense can be a little rougher, and yes i have had innumerable pulls and minor sprains

A hard style meets force with force, not necessarily head-on but in a way designed to be as effective and damaging as possible. Soft is about exerting minimal force in order to use your opponent's own power and momentum against them.

my general experience is that if the school is focused on bjj and nothing else, the students are slightly elitist "we are the cerebral, intellectual martial artists, we don't need to bloody noses to have fun"- and at the same time, with a strictly bjj school you do get to avoid a nice chunk of the redneck "we want to smash people's faces in, woo brah, tapout, sprawl, affliction!" etc
