WOOHOO! nearly done with mine and my friends costumes! look for zelda skyward sword characters on saturday and an aperture science and black mesa lab techs all weekend XDDD
I've had to get quite creative with this over the years, although occasionally I have a willing friend who helps out (: This year, my Vanille has a small pouch already, and I'm sewing a bag to the inside of my SSBB Peach hoop skirt (in addition to a thigh holster for smaller items - there's a lot of room under there!). Try to figure out how you can either conceal a small bag or incorporate it into the costume.
Yeah, it kinda depends on what your costume is. Like mine is easy, I can stuff everything into the ammo bags attached to my vest (turns out that they work GREAT as PSP carriers), and I'll also have a costume appropriate backpack.
For costumes that cannot come up with some way to have bags/backpacks, you may want to sew pockets to the inside of a jacket liner, or concealed within a shirt/pants. If you can't put it inside, you may be able to put the access to it outside and conceal it with a flap. Depending on your costume, you may want to consider putting snaps/a zipper on your concealed pockets. This can help you from losing stuff/getting things stolen.
EDIT: Looking at the design of Vanille, it doesn't look like you've got a whole lot of room to work with for concealing a bag. I'm not sure just exactly how much stuff you're wanting to carry, or how heavy it is, but you could sew pouches into the fur skirt thingy. Also, a small leather backpack wouldn't look out of place. It may not be accurate, but it'd still look good. (Did you go last year as Peach? If so, I remember that half monkey/half pony you gave Joco, that was awesome. )
These are some great ideas—I'm going as Lilith from Borderlands so I have a few very small pockets to work with... but maybe a pocket inside my vest might be feasible. Also maybe an inside flat pocket on the shirt for money and other flat items. Still think I might have to carry a tote for swag and whatnot. :P Thanks!
I'll be Sakura Kasugano (Street Fighter) on Friday and Tinkerballa (The Guild) on both Saturday and Sunday!
Friday I'll be roaming freely snapping photos of everything! Saturday and Sunday I'll be at the Tazti booth (hopefully able to snap more photos of everyone).
I still need to put the patches on to the BDU, put the pants and the shirt through the wash (they're kinda stiff since I haven't put them through the wash and they're brand new), and maybe throw myself down a hill to make everything look worn.
Things you can't see: My iPod Touch has a geiger counter app so that as a I walk around it'll sound like I'm trapsing through the zone and the iPod itself fits perfectly into one of the ammo pouches.. This will be off most of the time, but I figured it'd be funny as a once in a while effect.
I made a bigger hood for the BDU because while the hoods ingame are pretty form fitting, in all of the game's concept art, everyone seems to rock big hoods and it's kinda become an iconic STALKER thing.
EDIT: No, I'm not bringing that rifle to PAX. I'm not a moron.
EDIT EDIT: Yes, my place is a bit of a wreck atm, I've been in "oh fuck PAX" mode ever since I got back from being at sea.

Dude! That costume rocks! I definitely have to make sure I get some pics at PAX!
As far as a wig goes I have far too much hair. It is about fifteen inches long and is super thick so it really isn't too much of an option for me to wear a wig, I also don't really have enough money for one. I would have to dip into PAX spending money (which would be bad!) I think I will try what Elgaladwen said and dye it an in between color.
You'd be surprised how much hair actually fits in a wig cap.
I second this.
I have thick hair and it used to be past my waist. I could sit on it, even!
If you're able to get a wig cap and wig some other time, all you have to do is give yourself braided pigtails and wrap them around your head. Pin them in place, stuff it all in a cap and put the wig on.
I don't think I'll have my Altair costume fixed my dog destroyed it! Dang puppy he just lucky he is so dang cute he brought me tue boots after he got done eating them the tunic is shredded and the belt is in chunks so I'm down to just the ezio costume... I hope everyone likes this one everyone at Sakura loved my Altair so this should be good too
Awesome awesome awesome! I love Team Fortress 2. That Eyelander is bad ass.
Thanks! I still have to figure out the best way to get that from here to there in one piece. I'm trying to decide which is the lesser of two evils: baggage handlers or UPS.

Y'know... you'd have to talk to someone doing the Cross-Country Supertrip, but it looks like the route from Austin, TX to Fargo, ND goes right through Norman, OK. You could always try begging one of the people heading up that route to meet up with you & transport the sword. I figure that a fellow attendee would understand the item's fragility better than a non-PAXer like a delivery guy.

That's actually a really good idea! I'll look into it.
Alright, gang! Opinion question!
I'm going as a TF2 sniper, and I want to look as accurate as possible while not having to carry around too much crud. This means I've not made a sniper rifle (too much work to make and to carry around), but I want to bring along a 'weapon'.
Option A: make a Kukri out of cardboard/duct tape or foil (lightweight, not a problem to carry around all day)
Option B: bring a machete (probably not ok, as it's an actual weapon - I could leave it in its sheath, though)
Option C: Jarate (just a jar of 'lemonade')
Option D : Bring along a 'huntsman' - I have a bow at home that doesn't look like the huntsman, but is a bow nonetheless.
Righto, kukri it is - cardboard FTW. Now I get to decide - do I have enough time for a good lookin' Tribalman's Shiv, or stick with standard. Thanks, guys!
Hey, first time Cosplayer here. As in, first time putting on a costume any day outside of Halloween. I'm trying for Darth Nihilus, and I'm wondering how commonplace it is to simply walk to the convention center in full costume. I'm thinking that, given the masses of black robes and the freaky mask, some people on the street might get a bit panicked. Should I not put on the hood and mask until I get there? What advice can be offered to me by the more experienced?
Yeah, you will absolutely not be alone when it comes to people in full-out costumes. Don't worry about it.
If you want to walk a couple blocks away for food, you may want to think about taking off your mask, but that's really just for your own comfort. Everyone in that neck of the woods will be able to figure out the deal pretty quickly.
For future reference.... can someone tell me what they would use in order to make a helm look like this
I'm not a master smith so, makin it out of metal is totally out. Although I thought of huntin down some ren smiths to see if a thing would be possible. Hardest part would be getting the exact fit of the head right I spose.
I could do it out of cardboard but, I dont want somethin that will fall apart if i'm slightly sweaty or if it rains.

That seems like a perfect fit to just use a colored headband (Underarmor works GREAT for absorbing sweat!) and attach the wings to the headband.
I wouldn't mind doing Admiral Thrawn, but it would get in the way of everything.
I don't see how the opportunity to show up to anything late and saying 'sorry guys, I just blue myself' gets in the way of the best weekend of your life.
I don't know when my group is cosplaying, but since I'm going to be doing media stuff as well, there's a possibility that I'll be working the camera or doing an interview while in my demoman gear. I have no idea if this is professional, but it would most definitely be awesome.
I have determined that Black is the most irpoportional pokegirl ever next to Dawn with her very short skirt. Those little white flaps are impossible to get right with the short shorts I'm wearing. At least it's getting done, now I'm down to the tiny details and some fixing up.
And this girl, with her full hips and big hair is probably only twelve years old. Sheesh.

Bring room in your luggage for shirts. You will walk away with at least half a dozen new ones.

Now to get this thing bag checked... I wish it good luck in the harsh hands of the Rochester, Minneapolis, Seattle, and Detroit flight crews.

nice! And the Rochester crews aren't that bad :P The airport is one of the few things I like about this city.

Totally over-decorated thing... if anything they should've just upgraded the baggage claim lines, everything else is not needed 'cause it's so small.

Suggestions?
Also, I hug strangers.
How about if it's not strung?
Also, a cardboard cutout is really not ok? It wouldn't look realistic at all (I'm assuming you instead meant 'B')

I don't believe so, though there is a Bartell's close by that has a lot of useful random-ish things.
