I've started going through the Coen Brother's collection in preparation for this film.
Burn after reading is so fun, I have no idea why I didn't see it when it first came out.
All my friends hate on that movie so hard, but I really enjoy it quite a bit.

You fuck wit' Die Antwoord, you fuck wit' da army.
Gonna watch O Brother, Where Art Thou tonight and get in the mood for some Coens
I actually just ordered all the remaining Coen films I don't own on Amazon, so by Monday I will have a bunch of new stuff to work through (I love what I've seen of theirs but I'd only seen...I think five, previously?)

Coen bros. stuff is extremely rewatchable for some reason. I could watch Fargo, O Brother, No Country... probably once a month and never get sick of them.
I've probably watched Lebowski more than any other movie I own.
The most underrated Coen Brother's flick is The Man Who Wasn't There. It does with The Stranger what O Brother did with the Odyssey and is in black and white with Billy Bob Thornton. More people need to see it.

The birthday plan came off splendidly, and I went to see this with a dozen or so friends and family. It was really great. Beautiful, full of fantastic characters, dramatic, and frequently hilarious. Perhaps the most striking aspect of it was the dialog - I described it as sounding like a western written by Shakespeare. Many of the characters speak in a rather formal way, but their delivery is so good that it feels normal and appropriate rather than flowery or gimmicky. Very interesting I thought.
I saw this last night, it was pretty god damned fantastic.
Im relatively new to westerns in general but I really didn't expect to laugh so much at this. Like, the lines themselves weren't overly hilarious or anything, but the delivery was just fantastic.

Hah. That whole scene with the guy hung high in the tree, and the Indian (whoop sorry I mean NATIVE AMERICAN) who comes along, and the backwoods bearskin-clad doctor guy was fucking hilarious.

I can live without Miller's Crossing
most of their library qualifies as a heck of a lot more than "worthwhile"
most of it is very important cinema
True Grit isn't exactly ground-breaking the way some of their other work is, but god damn is it fun
I believed he was as big of an asshole he portrayed in The Searchers

This movie is incredibly hilarious and fun with some bleak thrown in. It is nowhere near as dark as No Country for Old Men.
It's not a happy ending, but it's not like it's soul-crushingly horrible.
I still need to see No Country. . .hmmm, maybe this weekend.
