The Beatles are one of those bands that get such worshipful adulation that they can't help but be overrated. And I think it's largely a function of being the seminal band of the baby boomer generation - there have been bands before and since that deserve as much praise, but didn't have as much of an effect on the culture of a generation that is both large in number and dominant culturally.

every person who doesn't like an acquired taste always seems to think everyone who likes it is faking it. it should be an official fallacy.
Yeah kind of sounds like one of those generalizations. Though I bet it changes from city to city. Also I think you would have to also throw in the availability of premade meals in the US compared to Europe as well. Also did it just compare super markets verse local grocers.
Ugh now my brain is running through all the variables that can skew a study like that.
IIRC the specific thing i was reading was basically a profile of what time determined to be "typical" families in various countries. They had several for different regions of the US. The feature had a photo splash of the families posing with their weekly grocery consumption/ purchase, which was of course unscientific in and of itself, but i believe it was meant to be representative of whatever research/ polling they had done.
I remember one of the American family (probably the "Southern US" family) was a suburban black family swimming in Dominos and Little Debbie boxes.
Tav how do you knock back bottles of straight vodka as pre-gaming and stout is, like, too much?
1 pt vodka, 2 parts pepsi max
can't even taste the vodka
ahhhhh
Most beers taste like grape soda to me these days, so I have to go dark/bitter to really drink one.
Man, I'd love to try out more beers but I'm far too poor. I can't justify spending €6 on a pint when a 500ml can of Carlsberg is €1. A friend of mine is into homebrewing and it's so goooooood.
I view the Beatles music the same way I view Billy Joel's music: Both had some songs I like and a lot of songs that, while not bad by any means, would never ever end up on a playlist in my iPod.

i forget what your objection to the beatles was again
mostly that they are not great
i would say they are pretty great
they were very musically significant, they have a wide range of sounds, they have tons of really catchy, well-made pop songs, some strong ballads, some songs with solid lyrical writing, some funky weird psychedelic shit
i mean they have tons of really average or boring songs too but that's because they're very prolific
I mostly don't care about three of those four things so they are super boring
and I can get funkier, weirder psychadelic shit elsewhere
A Day in the Life is a really fucking great song though
I have no idea where that came from
you're allowed not to be interested but that's a far cry from saying they are not great
also if you have no appreciation for good pop music i bid you GOOD DAY SIR

I'm sure at some point The Beatles will click with me (like Pink Floyd did) but till then I still I'm going to continue to find them incredibly dull.

It does add up fast. Clearly your friend needs to keep brewing different styles to keep you covered on the beer front!
Yah, Will I would take it with a grain of salt. Its a pretty complex issue(food shopping) since it changes per region, social class, race, access to fresh food and the cost of such food. Kind of like in Detroit in some parts it is near impossible to get fresh food. I don't think I would make sweeping generalizations till I had seen the full research and what they considered a "typical" American family.

I kinda wanna derail the business ethics thread to be about that whistleblower for swiss banks and their tax evading clientele who was arrested for it.

my main issue is that I am already playing through with the two warriors, so my options for a tank are very limited if I want to play on a higher difficulty

Does DA2 get better if we found the demo boring?
Or is it one of those games you have to play on the PC?

the "no true scotch man" fallacy.

probably the rest too
I don't understand it
it gives me that weird uncomfortable feeling I get on the occasions Ron Paul is making sense about foreign policy or something
whatever combination of drugs they were on when they wrote that must have accidentally turned into the philosopher's stone
I know. It's going to get me so much abuse, but I don't care because it's such a good machine!
ah well
i'll just play DA2

Yeah that one family in North Carolina, I have no idea how they're not all fucking huge.
Also apparently most of the world guzzles down just as much soda as we do.

Kind of wish we had a Grey's Anatomy thread...
why didn't I order dinner
oh right the crippling anxiety
:l
Well, you said you can order pizza online, right? Do that!
Hey Elendil, try googling to see if there are one of those places that offer online ordering for small restaurants. They might have a Chinese one.
Oh god...my heart
What season are you on?
I can't wait for the day when my only contact with the outside world is staring at a delivery person's back through drawn blinds
have you replayed DA2
yes
Be the velociraptor, Elendil. Order that takeout.
The current one. I just saw the episode from yesterday and that combined with the preview is making me sad.
Like a boss.
Or a velociraptor.
If the suit wasn't a dead giveaway then the couch definitely is.
Terrible taste all around.
I want to do either a dual-weapons rogue or a sword and shield warrior
I want to derail it with
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRT62J80iyI
the vastly improved gameplay makes up for it though, I think
it's less "what happens if I put Bhelen on the throne this time" and more "I bet an archer rogue would be fun"
my main issue is that I am already playing through with the two warriors, so my options for a tank are very limited if I want to play on a higher difficulty

what did you find boring about the demo
