Reading about various folks Hall of Fame ballots and all I've really learned is that Jon Finkel is a goddamn curmudgeon.
His Gamers Helping Gamers scholarship is dope as all hell, but he comes across as a darned old codger doomed to be a coot, salty about every last thing.
I bought a foil hangarback at the prerelease off a dude for $2.
It is now $15. Well done, me! You did it! And regulars are worth $8 what in the actual fuck?
pro tour does weird things
also people think it might play in affinity, which I do not see at all
it's great in draft. So far it seems pretty great in standard constructed. i could see it in affinity but I don't know what it could possibly replace as a 2 drop. It's most similar to arcbound but I don't know.
edit: although it would be hilarious to have cranial plating on another guy suddenly turn into lethal by blowing up your own pumped up hangarback

yeah, it would basically be a 2 drop artifact tukatongue thalid, and no sane person would replace ravager with it
hangarback dying gives you a nigh-unbeatable cranial plating if you can get a few counters on it, though
that is 3 pieces to the puzzle and hangarback actually dying
I'd rather just have an ornithopter, etched champion, and overseer in play than hangarback overseer and thopter

like, I think hangarback is real good and if decks were 64 cards minimum I would definitely see it in robots, but right now I just don't see it replacing anything efficiently
the answer is to not play affinity because affinity is bad
i've been playing affinity/robots at every opportunity since mirrodin, in every format applicable (except vintage, i guess).
it's been better and worse. it's not great in legacy, and never has been, though it would be good in an all-control no-combo meta (ie never).
it goes in and out of style in modern. it becomes possible and impossible in standard from time to time.
a guy i know was telling me he's been playing 2 coursers in his scapeshift deck and it doesn't seem like a bad idea, so I might give that a shot tonight for our little wednesday night modern

Guy I know that's been playing Scapeshift for years has 4 Vinelasher Kudzu in his sideboard as a backup plan. Apparently it occasionally gets some work done? And then makes them board removal back in for game 3?

so i saw this list from chicago and it ticks a couple of buttons for me.
grixis.
dragons.
... i guess those are all of my buttons.
I think I might stick it together just to break up the nonstop abzan happening at my local shop, since I'm only missing the red/blue temples.
At some point though, I really need to sit down with the new set. at the very least add hangarbacks to every deck.

yeah see I thought about that, but champions straight up win against certain decks
hangarback does not do that

lmao no
I still feel good about the grixis deck I'm building, but affinity is probably 2 or 3 on the list to try next.
Based on its records I'm gonna say no.
Because Modern players want to try and play it during their opponent's turn.

Thats a phenomenally dumb idea
This shit is going to tank. 15 bucks for this.

I drafted a lot of Blue in Dragons.
A whole lot of blue.
