As much as I would like steam to have filters for hardware, the sheer number of ways to describe ram and hard drive space is astounding, processor and video cards seem just as, if not more impossible. So I can forgive them for not letting me sort things out for my low end rig.
With indie games coming out as fast as they are, I'm actually more impowered at this level, than I was with my old laptop. Window 7 helps a little.
So, I decided to pick up Far Cry 4 and then once I am done with that I am gonna move onto Middle-Earth: Shadows of Mordor. I'm... not a huge LOTR fan, though I know the story, I hope that doesn't impede my enjoyment.
Thanks for all the suggestions, I should have plenty of games to get me through October now.

Don't worry, Shadow of Mordor is basically a fanfic.
And honestly, really weird. The writing for the artifacts and other secondary things makes it clear that someone in the writing team does legit like the Silmarillion, and it has some pretty neat references and points that show that someone actually was paying attention (such as Nûrnen NOT being a barren helllscape despite being in Mordor, because not all of Mordor is rocky murderscape, which nearly no adaptations get right)... but at the same the main story itself is absolutely impossible and fundamentally contradicts the LotR story and lore in like ten different ways that I can think off the top of my head.
Beat dying light. I liked it for the most part, as an open world zombie game with an emphasis on parkour. I had a few annoyances with it, and one big damn "FUCKING REALLY?"
Dying kinda sucks. Like, it's a zombie game so I'm okay with dying. But on top of respawning at the nearest checkpoint and interrupting what you were doing, you often lose XP from it too. It's not a hugely significant amount, but it is enough to increase my annoyance at dying to "Well, fuck this, I'm going to go do something else" levels. Also, failing side-missions blow because you have to listen to the same insipid piece of quest giver dialog berating you for failing that was MAYBE okay to listen to the first time. Like, seriously developers, failing the mission is enough; you don't need to rub salt in the wound.
Also the final boss is mechanically
a quicktime event. Why do companies keep doing this? Do they really think the best way to end their games is with a glorified cutscene that just restarts when you miss a key?
My huge "FUCKING REALLY?" heavily involves the games plot.
So you're basically an american operative dude dropped into this fictional middle eastern city to do stuff for an alphabet soup agency and you get bitten shortly thereafter, requiring a suppressant drug to keep from going zombie.. The main supporting character is a woman from the city called Jade, and towards the end of the game, she gets kidnapped and you have to go rescue you her, because video games still revel in that crappy trope. But UH OH, it turns out she's been bitten too, and you're both about to turn, and the asshole villain gives you a single dose of suppressant. Now, rather than giving the player a choice or, well, anything, you basically get a cutscene of the main character trying to give it to the woman and the woman saying "Nope, we need you alive to save the day" and then a dream sequence about how it's okay that she's going to die, because you're there to save everybody. Then you wake up and she gives you the dose and becomes a zombie. Fart.
Like, is it just me, or does this come across as some white savior bullshit? The middle eastern woman can't save the day herself, so she falls on a sword so the white dude can do it. I mean, it's one thing when you have a zillion people who all need shit done and the protagonist is the only one who either gives a shit or is capable enough to do it. Like, okay, it's dumb, bur whatever, it's a videogame. This, however, I just find it fucking ludicrous when you have people start sacrificing themselves because only you are strong enough to save the day (Saving the day, btw, involved wandering through zombie tunnels and climbing on shit, which Jade has done crazy amounts of already by that point.)
You know what would have been cool? If you did get to make the choice and if you chose to save the woman, you played as her for the rest of the game? That would have been an awesome subversion.
So speedrunners is free this weekend, and that's a nice fun and accessible platforming race game. Would people be interested in doing some speedrunnering?
Alright, made it through the hurricane to the US alive. Though there were...moments. Let the mobile gaming commence! And the jet lag. Lots of that.
But first, thanks go to @Antoshka , who waited until he knew I was about to get on a plane before striking with Expand. Vengeance will be terrible, but not swift, because I don't think I can buy anything off the mobile client whilst in the States.

I haven't played it, but blimey.
I like your ending much better. Reminded me a bit of that bit in Max Payne 2 where
you play as Max through one level with Mona Sax covering you and the next level is you replaying the same level but as Mona Sax.
Utterly brilliant moment in a game with a lot of utterly brilliant moments.
That said, I still kinda wonder about Dying Light because it does look pretty cool but it's one of those games I'm not sure how it will run on my hardware. So I've got it pencilled in for possibly in one of the big sales if it gets a massive discount, so maybe next year or something.
Dying Light, story wise, probably should have just starred Jade. She's the one with all the personal connections to the story characters. It's a little hard to care when there's drama regarding her brother when you've just met him a day ago and had like 3 interactions with him. Story wise, she's supposed to be the talented runner and great fighter, but for some reason everyone starts relying on Chris Redfield to do every little thing. And it would make a little more sense for the villain to focus on her, as she's a local celebrity and sort of a symbol for the people. The guy you play as, his relationship with the villain makes little sense, the dude just focuses on you seemingly because you're the player character.
That being said, Chris Redfield does shine in some of the sidequests and lighter moments because he's a sarcastic asshole.
The only question about SoM is:
How much do you like murdering the crap out of some really well animated Orcs.
Because that game lets you go wild.

I finally started playing Retro City Rampage. I remember being pretty excited when the game was first announced many years ago, but I never got around to actually playing it until now. While some of the references to old NES-era games were fun, there are just so many references that it's kind of exhausting. Not sure how I feel about that. So much of it feels like the Family Guy school of humor, and I can appreciate that stuff from time to time, but only in small doses.
Overall it's moving in the right direction, but it still has too many caveats to recommend. Combat is more fair until a bug moves the goal posts. Moving around the map with the dozer is still fairly boring. Getting 3 kills with a rookie is difficult, while getting the next 17 is easy to the point that you make things harder for yourself by feeding kills to other rookies. There's still no sense of urgency. The higher the difficulty ranking as time goes on, the higher the amount of enemies per encounter which make it easier to get more high level warriors than if you were attempting to manage the difficulty ranking by going faster.
Still needs more time in the oven this one, as the devs for their part sound like they're not done yet. Come on ya bastards, put in!

at that point she finds out he has been lying to everyone and has a direct link to ' the powers that be' so she saves him in the hope that he can stop the incoming nuclear missile or some such.
The white guy Saviour thing did piss me off too, to be honest. It's a huge cop out. There's no reason for him to be a white guy at all. It would have fit better if he was middle eastern too but I guess developers fear risk.
Beat Assault Android Cactus, though I still need to go back and S+ everything on all the androids.
So. Much. Fun.
Really anyone even remotely interested in a Bullet Hell game should check this out. Around 25 levels with 8-9 playable androids (can't quite remember at the moment) each with their unique playstyle. I've only been playing solo but I can only imagine how awesome co-op could be.
Be sure to stick around after the pretty short credits.
Early Access, but seems to have a complete multiplayer experience there. Spaceships and cool combat. The reviews are mentioning a lot of BF2142 and Battlefront.
I remember seeing Angels Fall First trailers ages ago and it looks amazing, I'm not really a multiplayer guy so I'm hoping the single player is worth playing

They promise bot support as a cornerstone. Considering the games long history as a UT mod and the well defined goals of the standalone project I feel pretty good about this as an EA risk. It's on my short list of games I want to pick up.
A short history of Angels Fall First. They've been a UT mod going back to UT2K4, migrated to UT3 and have placed in at least one Make Something Unreal contest back when Epic used to give a fuck about making games for the PC. This team has been working on this thing forever and have done a lot of cool stuff with their ideas.
