Regarding the soundtrack of Earthlings
I really, really enjoyed Smokey Quartz's theme, but I didn't start analyzing it until today. We've seen in previous fusions that each of the gems has a theme instrument: Garnet is electric bass, Pearl is piano, and Amethyst is drums. I didn't realize at first but they've been hinting at what Steven's fusion theme instrument would be, and Earthlings confirmed it: Steven is chiptune, and it's amazingly fitting.
Oh and on voice actors, too (still Earthling spoilers):
It's so amazing how they manage to always find a voice actor who sounds like a perfect, well, fusion of the two voice actors that the fused gem represents. I had to look up Smokey Quartz to verify that she was a new voice actor, because I could have sworn it was Michaela Dietz doing a Zach Callison impression

I am shocked that she sounds nothing like she does in other things.
Say Amethyst emerged post-war. A case could be made that the Corruption is the reason she stayed dormant for so long. The Kindergartens were shut down before the flash of light that caused the Corruption, so maybe Amethyst's material was corrupted. Maybe she wound up spending so much time in the Kindergarten because whatever process is used to make gems was trying to correct itself and purge the corruption in her material.
Spoilers up to Earthlings
Corruption has been described as a mind problem instead of an actual physical problem/disease. Rewatching Jasper's corruption, for example, shows that she was perfectly normal until after the line "No one who fuses with me wants to stay." Actually even then it was OK, it was during the manic laughter that the corruption started showing.
Based on that, I would say Amethyst was saved because she wasn't "awake" yet. Or "born" if you like. She had no mind (yet) to lose, essentially.

So hey, apparently we are now in season 4, according to the Cartoon Network streaming app. It might explain why all these threads are so interwoven lately.
Also, regarding the most recent episode:
It is quickly becoming one of my all time favorites. The sheer number of gags with the Rubies are amazing. The mournful tears, kicking the dirt because of the sun, just all their quirks are absolutely amazing and hilarious.
Season 4 needs to have two things to be a success. Well, three things:
1: more Peridot
2: MORE RUBIES
3: Peridot + Steven fusion OR Peridot +Lapis fusion.
I think it would be amazing cool to have Peridot's magneato powers combine with the other gemses weapons in the fusion state to make crazy ass telekinetic weapons.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
Season 4 starts on Thursday. Tonight's episode, Bubbled, is the season 3 finale.

Rubies are literally designed to be meatheads that follow orders. They arent dumb they just arent used to thinking ahead or about anything but their mission. Even our Ruby has trouble doing that

One of the gems protected by Rose's shield? I was thinking that they found her like, moments before the corruption hit or something. But I guess there's a lot of evidence against that.
In Bismuth, Pearl said that Rose protected her and Garnet with her shield, with no mention of Amethyst. It's possible that Amethyst was just excluded from that telling, because Bismuth didn't know her at the time and they were talking about what happened to the Crystal Gems, but it seems more likely that Amethyst simply wasn't around yet.

More to the point, they are hyper-emotional with a child-like maturity level. That's why I think naive is a better way of putting it than just dumb.

Yeah, the line is something to the effect of
Rose managed to protect Garnet and I, but the others...

Another comment about Earthings
I don't think I've properly communicated how much I LOOOOOVE Smokey Quartz. First just as a character, I love unapologetically goofy characters. Just the fact that, unlike the other characters, the're nothing elegant or poised about the character. She's not "put together" in the way the other fusions are. I love especially that she's just completely round, that's a body type you almost never see on likable female characters. She's hilarious and great and beautiful. I was laughing the entire time she was on screen, and then after the episode ended I immediately went back an watched her again. If I ever do SU cosplay, she's the first character I'll do.

Agreed, except that I think "she" is actually a "they".
To be fair, the only reason I know that is because I happened to see official confirmation that Stevonnie thinks of themself as neither male nor female, so I assumed Smoky Quartz would be the same.
Holy shit. This might have been the darkest end to a season I've ever seen from a show kids watch. Certainly the least optimistic one.
First Steven unable to save Jasper (from both herself and corruption) in Earthlings. Then finding out his mom killed someone in Back to the Moon. (And that's confirmed here by Garnet.) Now being forced to basically do the same to Eyeball in Bubbled. I mean I guess she might not technically die, at least not for a while, but at best she's doomed and stuck floating in space for a long time, possibly forever. Either way that was an intense scene, and an intense last few episodes of the season.
The message of this week/season finale: everyone's capable of bad things and reasoning doesn't always work. Yikes

Steven: "Did mom really shatter her?"
Garnet: "She had to. The Earth belonged to Pink Diamond. Destroying her was the only way to save the planet. For Amethyst to be herself. For Pearl to be free. For me to be together."
Steven: "But I thought...at least she would never..."
Garnet: "She didn't always do what was best for her, but she did do what was best for Earth."
Steven: "Even if it meant...shattering someone?"
Garnet: "Yes."
Steven: "...thanks for telling me."
Makes me think Garnet at least would have been on Bismuth's side.
Bit surprised they didn't try to collect the Rubies, though they'd surely have been just been poofed and bubbled.

So, um...
Has no one noticed?
Steven is a Homestuck Alien.
1. His name is STEVEN QUARTZ (universe). That's two six-letter names. Like a Troll would have.
2. He wears a t-shirt with a STAR on it. That's clearly his symbol.
3. He clearly has God Tier powers that are consistent with him being HEIR of LIFE.
4. He's at least half alien.
5. He has a room where his INTERESTS are SHOWN.
6. He clearly uses a SHIELD Modus.
7. His PET is a Reality-warping LION (AKA A GodCAT)
Really, i wouldn't be surprised if next season, we find out he's been talking through time with some other alien kids and then he'll be whisked away to the Land of Cookies and Cats.
I think the planets we see in the diamond murals aren't all the colonies controlled by the diamonds. The murals only have twenty-six planets, and for an interstellar empire running out of resources, that seems like way too few to be all of their colonies. They'd have uncountable billions of resource-rich systems left to exploit if that was the extent of their colonies, after all. However, if the theory that gems need to drain magic life energy or somesuch from an ecosystem to be created is correct, then perhaps the planets in the mural are life-bearing worlds that diamond has supervised the creation of and managed the operation of kindergartens on. Having found 26 life bearing planets seems more plausible than only having twenty-five colonies (not counting earth).
