I tried to give warframe the old college try and it was 20 hours of fighting the exact same four enemy types, and never unlocking any cool new armors or anything. I think I found a random dual blade weapon or something, that was it.
I don't understand the appeal, at least not completely

the tutorilization is bad, but you can theoritically acquire plenty of new frames and weapons in your first 20 hours if you are told where to look
There's a simple pleasure to effortlessly taking down a tightly packed squad of six guys in the space of a second, but it's not a particularly deep one, and doing that for twenty minutes I tend to need to turn a podcast on occupy the unused majority of my attention.
And I feel like a lot of the more recent stuff doesn't even give you that constant stream of guys to kill so often you don't even have that.

they're focusing more on the plains and trying to change up the formula
Warframe is about parkouring through each mission as fast as possible and getting the most kills out of your squad. Out-kill an Ember for maximum satisfaction.

Also, don't listen to Plague's warframe spiel on the podcast if you're interested in playing.
He spoils a pretty cool twist in the story without warning.
By which I mean I'm sort of-but-not-really-because-I'm-one-voice-of-hundreds arguing with Pat on Twitter with regards to how firmly Woolie needs to be "guided" in Monster Hunter
I think the ideal would be to just link Woolie to Kiranico and let him learn at his own pace

Its just a big slow mess though
there are a ton of assets and each planet has different tilesets and environments so????
I'd rather sink that time into something like monster hunter
90% of the fun is really going apeshit on huge mobs with the vast selection of highly customizable frames and weapons.
Its a game about simple joys and fantastic speed.
And whole sale slaughter.

Thankfully, I couldn't parse any of it enough to remember any plot twists he dropped.
I believe it didn't originally, but they added that in a patch.
