Reviews on Battletech are coming in: it’s that damned good. This plus MWO plus MechWarrior 5 coming later this year... it’s a damn good year for stompybots.
Now, how to fit a gift-a-pult onto a Cat-aphract...
Seems like it'd be easier to modify a Catapult!
I just realized how many cat names Battletech has. It is like a sign or something.
Poor Panther, hiding in the back.
TIL that the Mad Cat is so named because a targetting computer kept switching designations for it from MAD to CAT.
This amused me more than it should.
Also I have discovered that Stompybots unlocks an hour earlier than I thought, and there was much rejoicing.
Oh I know that. But that little story behind the mech made me love BT even more. Especially the thought of a Marauder and Catapult having a baby. It wasn't enough that I already loved the game before the Clans invaded.
For those who do not know, in the Battletech game the Inner Sphere (long story) were at war and the Clans (another long story) invaded. Well the Clans had far superior mechs and the Inner Sphere mechs never saw them before. So their targeting computers would lock onto the Timber Wolf which it had no idea what it was since it looked like a Marauder and Catapult. So the targeting computer flipped between MAD (Marauder) and CAT (Catapult) which led to the name MAD CAT. The computers were updated later on to identify it correctly as the Timber Wolf (TBR).
Edit: Sorry, geeking out that Battletech is live today!
I didn't know that story, but I'm glad I do now. That is awesome.
I’ll have to look into Battletech. I do like stompymech funtimes.
Also, Frostpunk released today. Watching a streamer play it last night, game is a hard but fun post-apocalyptic (of the frozen earth endless winter flavor) steampunk-ish city builder. Kind of if Surviving Mars and Banished had a 19th century baby.

This is awesome. I'm going to go into my EUIV hidey hole so I don't geek out too much on Battletech and the thought that they might have finally made "that game" that folks have been wanting for a while....
...impulse purchases are the devil (is what I'll keep repeating to myself)...
I was thinking the same. But a bit of playing HBS' previous stunner Shadowrun: Dragonfall, the forum hype (looking at you, @Iolo ), a bit of watching @TheKoolEagle streaming, and GMG's 25% off, and I caved. It looks so good.
Beaglerush was trying to get max salvage from a Grasshopper. He'd stripped it of all weapons, both its arms, and had knocked it down. The enemy pilot had 1 hp left.

I'm happy I live in an era where long maligned franchises can be brought back with tender loving care, but feel more anguish about IP's that could use a similar treatment.

Some good stuff in there, but it's less interesting to me because I own half of them already and the other games aren't really on my radar (although I've heard good things).
I'm also knee-deep in retro gaming now thanks to my SNES Classic.

Titan Souls is a very fun albeit slightly frustrating boss rush game where you can only get hit once, and you only have the ability to shoot an aarow and return it to you. I think you can dodge roll as well, but that's it. It's very simple, but extremely satisfying to put some time into and take down the (16?) bosses.
So, wait it out a while for Battletech? The steam reviews are scaring me a little
Metacritic looks really good. Steam reviews on new releases are always either terrible or amazing, because most steam users are reactionary pissbabies.
Are "Conan" "Cannibal" and "Rhino" the names of mechs?
Look here. Any shmuck can jump into a few tons of weaponized steel and go cause havoc and tears. It takes a real hero to claw his/her way from buck-naked on a crucifix in the desert to being master of all they survey and everyone who lives therein. And to build a really cool fortress in the process.

Pfft, there is only one Heero in a mech. There are lots of buck naked shmucks carrying a huge weapon.

Yes, yes, yes this is what I want!

I want this in AAA games.
Did the giant robot just headbutt the other giant robot?

Yep, and hit about a 1 in 1000 chance to critical the cockpit and kill the pilot instantly.
Is there a list of all these reboots I could look at? (besides Nightdive's twitter)

My Backloggery
He's a genetically engineered lifeform called a Neo Sapien.
And he's a bit sad about it.

Opening logos... anticipation building... and a black screen... um...
"Battletech.exe is not responding."
Okay, let's give it another go.
Same.
Not the start I was hoping for. Verifying files now...
EDIT: Oof, there's a six-page thread in the Steam forum about this very issue. Mostly pre-loaders. I didn't pre-load. Huh.
EDIT EDIT: Files verified. Computer rebooted. Yes, my drivers are up to date. Thumbs twiddling.

That's kinda sort what Anthem looks like it will be? Ish? It's more power armor than mech but it's closer than anything else we've gotten.

WoW has mechs
Eh, Anthem looks more like Borderlands with mechs than anything else. Squads of 4 in instanced games doing quests and being Iron Man clones.
And I'm totally stoked for it. Please don't tone down the E3 demo :bigfrown:

You could refund that and get Conan and go kill cannibals and hunt rhinos. Just sayin.
I was just complaining to a different group that there was a dearth of sci-fi Diablo-likes. Mechs are welcomed, for sure.
Bought it on GMG, so I think that's not an option. It'll get fixed.
And I'd feel like a monster hunting rhinos.
