Possession of child pornography didn't become illegal in Japan until 2014. Two Thousand Fourteen. And then I believe there was a year grace period before the law really kicked in for people to get rid of what they may have had.
I lived in Japan from 2013-2015, and like any tourist of course I hopped into a couple of porn shops. I won't describe some of the things I saw, but they absolutely made my skin crawl. And these weren't specialized shops or something. Just your run of the mill store stocking certain things like they were any other flavor of pornography.

Yeah, it can't be allowed for obvious reasons but I don't think there is any other difference.
Rather then just being branded evil, there needs to be a system in place to help these people when they realize their sexuality.
That way we can avoid more victims because a harsher penalty isn't going to change their sexuality, it will make them go all out if they feel they have nothing more to lose however.
