a controversial statement to make in this thread, I'm sure, but I preferred tf2's approach of never taking its lore or characters seriously ever to ow's approach of occasionally taking that stuff seriously if it feels like it

Yeah but the problem with that is Blizzard doesn't have half the quality of writers Valve used to have. Looking forward to to the Blizzcon short about the tragic death of McCree's parents, a box set of Clint Eastwood movies on VHS.

The characters' mouths moved when they talked in TF2
I haven't noticed that in Overwatch, which seems crazy considering the emphasis on characters!

I have not noticed that because I'm either being shot at while it's happening or I've been doing very important table smashing.
My internet has sucked extra ass lately so I haven't been playing much Overwatch, so instead I'm catching up on Jayne youtube vids.
I'm watching this one, with Jayne and a top 500 Brigitte main, reviewing one of his Brigitte games. It's pretty interesting and the guy has a lot of good non-intuitive tips for Brigitte.
- Most of the time instead of stunning enemy reins, he just walks up, swings, and then uses shield bash to escape backwards. It's a safer way to keep Brig's healing aura up and avoid enemy counter-stuns.
- He mostly avoids over-healing with Brig's E, which adds to the "armor given" stat but doesn't actually give ult charge. Especially for tanks he instead waits until they're down at least 100-150, and pops it then.
- He especially argues against overhealing on heroes with shields. If you give Zarya 75 armor it'll probably just sit there not accomplishing anything and not earning you any ult charge, so its just a waste.
- Basically his argument is you should prioritize survival first, and keeping your healing aura proc'd second. Maximizing those two things results in the most ult charge gained, and the most value for your team.
- Against projectiles with burst he suggests turning in to the attack so that it hits your shield, rather than trying to dodge out of the way. Brig's shield doesn't spread far enough to block splash damage off the ground... unless the projectile hits the shield straight on, in which case it'll block everything.
- Unlike Rein's huge shield, if Brig jumps her shield won't cover her legs. Jumping while facing a d.va bomb will kill you, and an earthshatter will stun you. So be careful about not spamming jump, it exposes you to damage.
- I think most people know this one(?), but bashing and then immediately dropping your shield and jumping will give you extra forward momentum, useful for when you're using bash as mobility. Same as a lot of other mobility abilities.
- Bash->swing->whip shot is the normal damage combo, kills tracers, etc. However, if you're only trying to knock a player out of position, avoid that middle swing. It's only an extra 30 damage, and it means they regain control as they're getting hit, and will have air control as you boop them, meaning more chance to avoid getting thrown into a pit / knocked far out of position. Just Bash->Whip will leave them without air control, and is therefore a more powerful CC combo. Almost twice the distance.
- His combo vs. 200 HP heroes is swing->swing->bash->swing->whip shot. That's 210 damage, so basically after the first two swings is his decision point, if they've gotten any healing during those first two attacks he'll know he probably can't finish them, and just whip shot them away to bail on the engagement. Otherwise he'll finish them off with his standard quick 3 attack combo.
- Pop ult before a fight if you have to, but he argues that even high level players are tending to underestimate just how good rally is in the middle of a fight, especially now with its lowered max cap. With healing aura and rally aura both going your team can take a lot of punishment, and still usually have bonus armor at the end of the engagement.
A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.

There's currently a bug that allows for some pretty wild mobility for Brig. While holding forward, jump, bash, whip gives her a huge lateral boost. It'll probably be patched but right now you can clear some big gaps, although it does leave you without cooldown abilities.
I had a fun one today with Moira on Hanamura attack b.
Was doing the usual port and hop trick for a speed boast and I must have hit that rock in the center just right that I got launched way high in the air like almost to the invisible roof
I'm glad they're not wasting time animating mouths for the one million voice lines they add
Happiness is within reach!

ooh nice
i learned to play her primarily through deathmatch (cos when she came out everyone else was instalocking her and i was content to have another healer on the team) so i know how to duel people but these are good support-y things to keep in mind, i definitely have an itchy trigger finger on the repair packs

she's so tiny... her hurtboxes must be the size of a dime
we also talk about other random shit and clown upon each other
'cause of her slouch you gotta do the torbjorn thing of aiming down a little
and because of her thin stature you gotta do the genji/tracer/lucio thing of taking a step forward as the hook reels in
(so yes, I agree she is difficult to combo :P)
That's why you just hook her off the edge of something instead. Fill that well with grammas all day erryday
I imagine the right side quarterfinals will be stomps, but I can't even begin to predict how the left side will go.

Widow should be basically this
I want to hear her mournfully declare that she has been SHOWN who is the BOSS
Then I did it again 30s later
Wish I'd remembered pressing F9 to save a highlight was a thing
