It's much better in manga form.

Or you could wait for the theoretical recut One Piece Kai with no filler.

It's possible when they're done counting volumes sold for October Demon Slayer will have surpassed One Piece.

I don't think One Piece has been beaten in years.

Nezuko is precious and should be protected and/or aimed at her next target to explode their blood.

I feel like I am the only person on this planet that has problems with Nezuko.

Yes, she is adorable and strong and cool

    b u t

If I interpret her situation correctly, she is not really the sister Tanjiro knew due to her becoming a demon - she acts more like a very smart, but nonetheless, animal, that instinctively wants to protect her brother due to remembering him from before becoming a demon, and wants to protect other humans because she was hypnotized to so so.

Anyone else finds this not satisfying in terms of character writing?

Re:Zero is something I enjoyed pretty much from the start. But after episode 7 I was pretty certain this show would be one of my all-time favourites.

Episode 15 made it my favourite anime.

Except that isn't her character at all.

    Manga spoilers
She is fully aware of herself and eventually gains the ability to endure sunlight and speak normally again. She hasn't forgotten herself and isn't just acting on instinct.

Yeah I'd definitely prefer her to have more agency in general, and the hypnosis thing really diminishes her accomplishments. She seems to be getting more human over time though, so hopefully she gets more stuff to do.

The hypnosis was necessary because she resisted eating her family . It's like a stop smoking tape.

Honestly Gridman didn’t hurt me as much cause MC wasn’t completely isolated and alone, having a couple friends who also remembered stuff downgrades it from “terror” to “mystery to be solved”

How? Every demon, without exception, has that drive to consume humans. There's at least two that have managed to break that drive, but it was definitely a process and not something they could pull off instantly. The hypnosis is the same way, it suppresses the demon instincts so she remains relatively human.

Tanjiro is also a child and is constantly persevering against all odds.

The hypnosis sucks and it takes away agency from her.

There's at least two that have managed to break that drive, but it was definitely a process and not something they could pull off instantly. The hypnosis is the same way, it suppresses the demon instincts so she remains relatively human.

Also the hypnosis is very weak...she has the sense of will to determine if a demon is 'human' enough not to attack. If she has that kind of ability to choose, then she could shake it off. As its described, she has the mental strength to retain her human emotions. Most people once the demon takes over, that is suppressed, and they start to lose there human memories as a result, thus losing all morals about what they are doing to appease their hunger. As the Demons die, in many cases we see the 'demon' die first, letting the suppressed memories back. Nezuko is special because she got over the initial drive and transformation that would have started the process of memory supression after her first feeding. It's still something she has to fight at times, but the hypnosis was mostly a backup when they were still worried about what was happening to her during her first 'sleeping for two years' period.

Breaking the rules of a story is either reserved for the protagonist (and even then it's a gamble) or is only found in shitty stories. For a world to function in a story it has to be consistent. Loopholes can be used if they're clever enough, but they still have to hew to the letter if not the spirit. This is not Kojima making one character wear no clothing and claiming it's so she can breathe, this is the author saying that every demon, without exception, is burdened with this hunger and that it was bending things enough that she managed to resist that hunger before the hypnosis.

Also, how is she lacking agency? The hypnosis just suppresses the hunger, she is still fully aware of things. When Tanjiro tells her to run she does so, because she understands him, and then she returns to fight alongside him as his sister which is what enables them to win that fight.

Just think how much better it would have been had she had a scene where she comes up with the family substitution thing on her own, and that’s how she resists her demonic urges. Let HER be the one to solve her problem.

It wouldn’t even necessarily have needed an internal monologue since she’s basically silent after the transformation. Just show some flashes of memories and have the image of the would-be victim replaced with a family member

Aside from the pacing this is my biggest beef with this show.

She actually does this herself later on in the series. She knows the images she is seeing is not her real family. they simply help keep her memories alive, which i think is probably the key to how shes staying herself.

That's actually why I fell off Gridman. That's a real horrifying consequence for giant monster battles! I'm gonna get back to it though.

    Gridman is pretty heavy since
Essentially it's a deeply depressed girl locked up in her room, smashing her toys into each other, wanting to kill herself but not capable of it.

And then her sorta-friends are like, "We're here, we want to help you!" and she's only more pissed off because that doesn't actually make the depression any better.
And then on top of that you've got the occasional bits of gay subtext

A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.
