Both Acid Witch and Vanik have dropped some special Halloween stuff on Bandcamp. I actually went ahead and bought the physical for the Vanik EP, although I warn you it's Halloween Sounds and NOT speed metal like their normal stuff.
Speaking of early Pestilence, I was listening to Malleus, Consuming Impulse, and Hail of Bullets on my father's hifi system a few weeks ago. Van Drunen in hi-def is absolutely staggering.
All these folks trying to be the Hiroo Onoda of the Loudness War...

It's pretty close to Ghost Mile musically and they've still got those Aussie-answer-to-Duran-Duran vocals, which I actually kind of dig over the shiny prog metalz.
I wasnt going to pass up seeing their first US show in 11 years. I'm also pretty psyched for Demolition Hammer. Even though their albums aren't super great, they absolutley crush it live. First time seeing Deceased too.
I think it might have also just kicked Outstrider off my top 100, and I like that album quite a bit. Or maybe not, need a few more listens, and there are a few others on the potential chopping block. Goes to show how loaded the year is.
Musically this new Wilderun album is fantastic, I'm really enjoying it. Some of the vocals are also really great, but a few of the parts where he's doing his Mikael Akerfeldt/Dan Swano/Zak Stevens/Falconer style lines seem a bit too safe and secure. Overall though I'm still surprised these local Boston boys haven't been snapped up by some prog label (Frontiers, InsideOut) or a major metal label at the very least. I'm sure it will happen now that they had the #1 selling album on Bandcamp.
Watched The Exorcist 3 last night. That's gotta be one of the most heavily sampled movies in metal for some reason. I knew like 8 lines just from having heard them many times in various songs over the years.

Exorcist III has two of the greatest jump scares in film history. It’s worth watching for those two scenes alone.
George C. Scott is in it as well, so you get fantastic acting to boot.
Garry: I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the time I'd rather not spend the rest of the winter TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!
Yeah, Scott is great. Dourif is as well but he's a bit underused and all the studio meddling that went into it shows through and makes it just a good movie when it probably would have been a great one. Still worth watching.
So apparently solstafir is playing a free show in Toronto in a few weeks for the taste of Reykjavik event. That's pretty cool, but they're playing at a place called the Dakota tavern which is a country western bar, and also has a capacity of like 100 people and 400+ have already expressed interest on the Facebook event page lol.

I'm still gonna try to get in.
That seems like the perfect way to see Solstafir. Good luck!
