[The Boys]: The Thread (OPEN SPOILERS)
Hey! There's this show on Amazon Prime called The Boys, currently nearing the end of S2. The elevator pitch is: "What if Avengers, but assholes?" It's pretty good!
Here is a place to discuss it. This thread is OPEN SPOILERS, so read at your own risk.

"The Boys" comics are available as part of a Humble Bundle for the next eleven or twelve days.
I can has cheezburger, yes?
In the comics they have them from the start, if needed. The show’s recent episodes have shown Vaught is trying to stabilise it.
I’m guessing either the last episode will have them finding a stash, or Season 3 will be the hunt for it.
What the hell was stopping her from doing all that at any point in time?

Lamplighter mentioned there was a miss with her dosage so I imagine she's perpetually drugged. Maybe the Boys caper interrupted her handlers ability to dose her or something.
Could also be "I'm getting out and I don't give a fuck" and the boys just happened to be there on the day that happened.
I do think head explodey man is the scientology guy. Probably a fucked up version of professor x where his power is just blowing up your head, he killed multiple targets at the trial to throw off the scent he specifically killed A Trains replacement.
He probably killed the CIA lady because she was also investigating his cult and the boys just swung and missed and their on to liberty.
I'm wondering with all the allusions to natural birth and stormfront and homelander raw dogging if Stormfront is about to have happen to her what happened to butchers wife in the comic.

Better grab a lamp.
I think this was his bullshit excuse to Stormfront re: how the riot started, because he couldn't hardly well say "I torched a hole in her cell door"

They did disable enough of the lights, they seemed to leave enough for observation but she is shown being unable to draw power from the available ones. They're caught out because they didn't think of the emergency light, which to be fair, when is the last time they had an emergency there?
And I think they're running into the narrative dead ends of leaving Becca alive in the show. She and Homelander never had a relationship once she disappeared yet she seems to know a lot about what makes him tick, and seems to feel she is in a position where she can make demands of him when he can fly her into the upper atmosphere on a whim. It was always stupid for her to not take Butcher's offer. She could have run off with the kid after escaping, but staying where she was was just waiting for the inevitable.
I just like how its an evil corp that acts like a regular corporation leaks and bad security across the board.

Yes.
But it implies she is heavily drugged under normal circumstances and the whole caper (including lamplighter blasting door) may have hindered a standby orderly to emergency dose her.
I felt bad for Becca because Butcher was ultimately right, her son turned on her when he was told the truth. God imagine billy butcher being right about something, yikes.

Also I assumed the exploding heads was(comic spoilers)
And season 2 TV right now:
Becca handled everything wrong IMO. I'm not sure what the long term strategy was anyway, was Vought letting her raise him as a Homelander with more of a conscience? Why involve her at all when you can just insert any female staff member as his mum? The SECOND Homelander learned about them it was over. She has no power over him whatsoever and yet acted like they were divorced parents with dueling parental strategies.
All the Becca stuff falls flat for me.
And none of them having powers (well, technically, the one non boy-Boy does!) is the main problem now. It's spinning their wheels until death at this point. They can't win.
And they KNOW Starlights power, so the shit security is just as unforgivable as it always is, it just has to be hand waved away. No reason Huey couldn't have let her out, then she busts them out once things go extra sideways and she has access to power.

Hence the non-boy Boy, yes.
Also apparently they shot real porn scenes for the show and they want to release them so that's a thing.

Since this is The Boys, there’s a 50/50 chance Ryan accidentally kills her.
Or butcher does it in front of Homelander once again trying to hurt him like he already tried.
Basically if something awful happened on the show 75% chance butcher did it.
I still wonder if it'll be something like the comic did. Spoiler for the comic.
In the comic Becca died to a supe child ripping its way out of her that Butcher then killed (because Ennis) so all the blood everywhere could be Stormfront exploding from a baby inside of her.

Regarding this episode, was anyone else watching and picturing a guy on a nearby rooftop looking through the window all like
The Boys having powers too was one of the worse aspects of the comic since they literally just punched every supe without a problem.
What I do want to see more of though is “how a normal person beats a supe” type plans like with Translucent, there hasn’t been enough of that.

Inserting a staff member as his mother doesn’t make sense if you think about what you’re asking for someone to raise this kid 24/7 and actually love him.
There’s a short scene in the first seasons extra scenes where you see a young homelander being raised by one of his teachers/au pairs and she’s terrified of him because he can kill her by hugging her too hard (and does).
Homelander wants Becca around because he doesent want his kid to have a motherless upbringing like him so Becca has some leverage, at least until stormfront arrives in the picture.
From a narrative standpoint I can't tell what the point would be. A Vought plant for when compound V's existence became public knowledge? Even then though, the people killed in the hearing were the prime witness and what I assume to be the DA. The only people to benefit from this is Vought & co.
From a powers point of view you usually have people requiring clear line of sight, she had her back turned to many of the people going pop towards the end.
Given that B-train's head went pop it would make sense that it was someone in the church (why was he even there unless ordered to go by Vought), although whether it's the most interesting person on the planet's brother or the orange soda flinging agony aunt I'm not sure.
There is not a single vertical line in this show. Everything curves
Yep, Becca has suddenly become useless. There's a clip floating around from the season preview teaser that has homelander flying down covered in blood and everyone is speculating who the blood belongs to.
He initially looks sad, but then at the very end of the clip he gets a slight smile, indicating either it wasn't someone important to him, or a problem was solved; or both. To me, it says Becca, and the smirk at the end is either the realization that she's just a problem that has been removed; or Ryan does it and it's pride.
I've noticed a lot of people on the interwebs seem to assume Stormfront is dead by the end of the season, but based on where things are going, I'm not seeing that? She seems to be more long term; though, I could see the writers wanting to off her before the election because (comic spoilers)
It's wild the season is only one episode left then at least another year before more. The show is too good to have such short seasons. But maybe keeping it short makes it better.
I guess they've announced a spinoff? Normally I'd not be into something like that, but you gotta figure this world has so many potential stories that could be going on, just as interesting as this main story, so, I'm willing to give it a shot.

The Netflix Daredevil was really, really good at it's peak, but the need to have 13 episodes left some dead air. As much as I want more Boys, we do at least get pretty lengthy episodes.
I think Stormfront will go out around the middle of S3, probably at the hands of Kimiko rather than all of the boys like in the comics
Yeah noticed that too. My guess would be that due to COVID lockdown in Toronto they couldn't get the same studio or equipment for those shots.
I do think Scientology guy is behind the heads. I think he's the TV version of the Professor G in the comics that runs the "G-Teams"
I think by the end of S2 Hughie is gonna get dosed with V and take down a Supe. Maybe not all of the Boys, but at least Hughie.
Now that it's grown on me though I really dig it. I'd like to see another two seasons after this to really tell a complete story. It reminds me of Powers, which was free to watch on Playstation and honestly a little ahead of it's time for TV based superhero shows and sadly got cancelled early.
I'm mostly a fan of the show because it's unlike the comics. Garth Ennis is good at making an interesting plot, but the rest of his "style" is repulsive to me.
Removing his fascination with the scatological, the purile dialogue and the rampant homophobia is IMHO a good thing.

That's a fair point.
