LRCA Constitutional Amendment 1 Government Makes the Public Regulation Commission a three-member appointed commission
LRCA Constitutional Amendment 2 Elections Amends the New Mexico Constitution to allow for laws that adjust the date of election and term for non-statewide officeholders
BI Bond Question A Bond issues Issues $33.3 million in bonds for senior citizen facility improvements
BI Bond Question B Bond issues Issues $9.7 million in bonds for public libraries
BI Bond Question C Bond issues Issues $156.3 million in bonds for public higher education institutions, special public schools, and tribal schools
The Public Regulation Commission is just messy as it went from basically goons to the attempt to clean it up by getting the vary companies they would oversee since they were the most qualified.
The bond ones are insane as it upping the sales tax to pay for them or using property tax to pay for them with the promise to pay it back
The challenge with a foreign policy focussed debate is Biden has the difficult task of relating foreign relations and the international standing and order to people’s every day lives. Whereas trump is just going to hammer how great he is on China and tough on socialists etc
Actually, Biden could get into international efforts to deal with covid. Namely partnering with other countries to improve the speed at which vaccines are created and future steps to prevent the next pandemic. Not to mention, climate change is a thing that more and more people are starting to care about and that's going to be a global effort. Finally, if he wants to get out of the box, he could also deal with one of the elephants in the room on foreign policy that deals with ow a ton of our shitty corporations, lay off workers at home and then setup shop in countries, where the authorities let them outright exploit and abuse their workers for less pay and in less safe conditions (as an aside I think automation is the greater thread, but this is a thing that happens and it would be nice to quash the narrative that it's the fault of foreign workers for those lost jobs, when it's really our shitty oligarchs that make that choice). There are a few angles Biden can play that stays foreign policy focused in a way that would keep most low information voters vested, while shitting on Trump. International efforts to deal with covid is probably just the easiest one, but he'll need more than just that.
This is something that I've had a massive argument over recently. That Trump pulling out of the WHO is a good thing, because WHO are clearly compromised, both in their politics (kowtowing to China over Taiwan) and in their on the ground efforts being soft.
My argument was "Well, what's next?". Because that's the fucking problem with Trump when he does this. Paris, ACA, it's "This is bad, we're out.". But no attempt to replace it with anything.
I've got criticisms of WHO, but I understand they've also got some serious political landmines to navigate if they're to just start their job.
It's like having your only local firestation have issues. Maybe the fire chief is incompetent? Do you try and fix things? Absolutely. Do you just completely shut down the fire station and just accept the next fire isn't going to get looked at until it's already burnt down half the town? That's apparently the Trump strategy.
There are more pandemics coming. Mutations of coronavirus, or something we know exists (ebola?), or something completely new. You can't just spin up a "response team" after the fact. You need everything in place to jump on it at the earliest opportunity. If not, it'll be out of control long before you've made the decision that it's a problem.

Not without specifics because that reeks of graft. I'm incredibly skeptical that $33.3 million is enough to meaningfully improve or reform senior citizen facilities in a state like NM but it strikes me as a great number for scamming the public.

Those should be three different god damned bonds to which my answers to which would be "Absolutely fucking not unless it's dedicated solely to reducing tuition costs (which it won't be)", "Maybe except damn that's a great excuse for graft", and "Absolutely... as long as it's not just a scam and is properly overseen by an impartial third party (which I suspect it won't be)"

Of note, though: 56% of all women and 53% of college educated whites have very unfavorable views of Trump. Also 67 % want a public option and 72 % want a stimulus package even if it costs 2 trillion (which requires 50 D senators, abolishing the filibuster and balancing the courts).

My biggest worry about Thursday is that Trump doesn't back out (figure that one is a coin flip) and shows up and manages to somewhat behave.
At this point the bar is so low that him doing his 'grumpy toddler forced to behave'act instead of soiling himself and spending 90 minutes rolling in it will be presented by the breathless media as 'the day Trump became President'.
I don't think he is capable of it though. Especially with this Hunter Biden BS being their Hail Mary play and him being convinced he needs to attack.
I'm also a bit concerned about the muting microphones thing. Him being childish and constantly interrupting put a lot of folks off, bit if all we hear is Biden (with Trump still yammering in his year distracting him) it may make Biden look bad. That plus Trump having two full uninterrupted minutes to crap out conspiracy theories may not be good although it'll probably be very 'proceed governor'.
Just very gunshy, and this debate is basically the one chance Trump has left to personally turn things around or for Biden to really fuck up. And the media loves their 'Trump finally Presidential' stories.
